Panasonic G5 mirrorless camera gets September 13th release date in Japan

We enjoyed our short time with Panasonic’s new mirrorless G5 in our hands-on last month, even if it was a little on the porky side. And, if you hail from the Land of the Rising Sun and had your heart set on one of these 16-megapixel shooters, Panny’s announced you’ll get your chance from September 13th. We’re getting dangerously close to missing the stateside launch target of August, but where the US website is showing the G5 as unreleased, availability on Amazon tells a different story. We’re reaching out for confirmation on that — as well as pricing — and will update should we hear more.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 joins Micro Four Thirds family

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 is the latest Micro Four Thirds model to arrive to the Panasonic family, where it will boast of a newly integrated 16.05-megapixel Live MOS sensor in addition to a totally redesigned Venus Engine that is said to deliver clear, crisp images in both photo and video recording. It will boast of a compact, lightweight body complete with a built-in flash, letting you carry it around without weighing you down in any way. I guess this is a natural progression of the Micro Four Thirds family.

As for the redesigned Venus Engine, it is said to come with an exceptionally advanced signal processing capability, delivering clear, crisp images in both photo and video recording moments. It can detect smooth areas or edges in photos, while making adjustments to the strength of noise reduction (stronger for smooth portion, milder for edge portion) so that object descriptiveness can be maintained. You will be able to pick up the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 in black, white and silver colors alongside different kit options, although pricing and availability have yet to be determined. [Press Release]
