Apple’s New Mac Pro In Pictures: Beauty And The Beast

Like looking into a jet engine turbine.

Apple has a brand new Mac Pro with an all-new, bold design that’s assembled at home in the U.S. in a facility in Texas. It’s easily among the most bold and unique designs of a Mac in recent memory, bringing to mind equally mould-busting creations like the G4 Cube and the original ‘flowerpot’ iMac. It’s also got a distinctly Darth Vader vibe, and with its unique removable outer casing, that impression comes across even stronger.

We still have to take the new Mac Pro through more testing before we can deliver our full review, but first impressions are that this thing absolutely leaves any other current Macs in the dust in terms of loading, rendering and processing speed. It’s also extremely quiet, and actually produces a small amount of updraft from that exhaust port in the top, which is funneling air from its ‘unified thermal core.’

It’s a futuristic machine with futuristic good looks, and while I wouldn’t advise using it in the conditions pictured above, the currently frozen wastes of Toronto make an excellent backdrop for this demon machine. Stay tuned for our full review and more thoughts about Apple’s first new Pro desktop computer in many years.

Mac Pro Shipping Times Slip To February 2014

Mac Pro Shipping Times Slip To February 2014Despite its rather dear price tag of $2,999, Apple’s Mac Pro appears to be doing quite well as there have been reports that the computer has recently managed to sell out its initial batch of shipments. The Mac Pro’s pre-orders had gone live just yesterday and according to the shipping estimates at that time, it was expected that it would begin shipping on the 30th of December. However it turns out that we had underestimated the computer’s popularity as Apple’s online store now lists the Mac Pro’s estimated shipping time for some time in February, suggesting that if you weren’t quick enough, you’d have to wait a couple of months before you could get your hands on the device.

Some have speculated that the reason behind the delay and limited availability could be due to the fact that the Mac Pro is being built in Austin, Texas. Perhaps Apple’s factory has not caught up to speed yet, unlike Apple’s partners over in Asia who have probably gotten used to piecing together many Apple products over the years. Another reason could be that Apple had underestimated the demand for the new Mac Pros, but either way it looks like would-be customers are in for a wait.

New Mac Pro Gets The Unboxing Treatment

With Apple’s latest Mac Pro coming in with a price tag of at least $2,999, and we’re hearing that a fully specced Mac Pro could cost $14,000, safe to say that this is a computer not everyone will want to, or be able to, get their hands on. That being said, ever wonder what it might be like to open up the box of a computer you might not be getting anytime soon? Well thanks to the folks at FCP.co, they have posted a video on YouTube in which they unbox the brand new Mac Pro in front of our eyes.

As expected with Apple packaging, there is nothing in there which is unnecessary, save for a moulded piece of foam which is there to help protect the Mac Pro from small bumps and knocks along the way. We have to admit that while the price tag is a bit hard to swallow, the design of the Mac Pro is beautiful, albeit somewhat controversial. It is not targeted at the casual user but the working professional who might require said specs for music, audio, video, or graphical processing. Pre-orders of the computer have gone live and Apple expects to begin shipping Mac Pro units by the 30th of December. If you have a few minutes to spare, perhaps this is an unboxing video you’ll want to watch.

Apple Releases Firmware Update For New Mac Pros

Apple Releases Firmware Update For New Mac ProsApple’s latest workstation, the Mac Pro, has recently gone up for pre-order and is expected to begin shipping on the 30th of December, but it would seem as though Apple has already discovered a few bugs in its new product that they have since released a firmware for, meaning that if you are a soon-to-be proud owner of a Mac Pro, keep in mind that there will be a firmware update waiting to be downloaded once you have setup and connected your computer to the internet.

The update is the Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 and was released just recently and weighs in at around 5MB, making it a small but recommended update as Apple claims that the update will help improve system reliability during the rebooting process. The update is also said to resolve an issue related to memory self-test, and will also aid in improving graphics power management when using Boot Camp.

The latest Mac Pro is the long-awaited successor to its predecessor which remain relatively unchanged for a couple of years. Its design, while unique, is somewhat controversial, along with its price tag where Apple is asking for $2,999 for the base model, making it a rather expensive purchase.

Apple’s Mac Pro Is Now Available, Max One Out Now With A 4K Display For Over $13K

    mac-pro

Apple is now selling its new U.S.-assembled Mac Pro via its online store, as announced yesterday in a press release. The pro-targeted computer starts at $2,999, but with custom options and maxed out specification, plus a single Sharp 4K display which also went on sale this morning, you can spend as much as $13,194.00. And let’s be honest, you’re going to want at least two 4K displays, so bump that up to $16,789.

The ship date for that super custom build is listed simply as “January,” but stock configurations are expected to be in the mail by December 30 according to current estimates. There’s also a personal pickup option, but so far any checked say that they’ll “ship to store,” meaning you likely can’t just walk in and buy one at this stage.

Mac Pro is definitely going to be a rarified choice among Mac models, reserved for those with deep pockets and advanced technical need, but it’s still an extremely drool-worthy machine even for those of us who don’t have the means to justifiably pick one up. The next time I have a spare $15,000 or so, though, you know exactly where it’s going.
