Meizu MX3 With Ubuntu Spotted

The Meizu MX3 was announced on an official basis last year, but it seems as though this particular smartphone is going to roll out over in the U.S. some time in the third quarter of this year, which is still a fair number of months away. Well, the Meizu MX3 holds the distinction of being one of the first smartphones that will ship with Ubuntu Linux, although one can always make do with an Android-powered version of this smartphone. The Ubuntu version of the Meizu MX3 was shown off at Mobile World Congress in February.

Meizu And BQ To Roll Out Ubuntu Smartphones

Meizu And BQ To Roll Out Ubuntu SmartphonesIt does seem as though the first of Ubuntu-powered smartphones will be introduced sometime later this year, where the manufacturer would be European designer BQ as well as Chinese phone manufacturer Meizu, where the latter has had some pretty interesting releases in the past. According to Canonical and Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth, extra details will be revealed at the upcoming Mobile World Congress that is happening in Barcelona, Spain, later this month, although there were hints that Meizu’s handset will be more or less the already released Meizu MX3, albeit it will ditch the Android platform and run on Ubuntu instead.

Meizu Teases MX4G And MX4G Mini

Meizu Teases MX4G And MX4G MiniMeizu is a Chinese company that has recently shown interest in expanding beyond China’s borders into the US and Europe, and recently the company has taken off the wraps on two of its latest handsets, the MX4G and the MX4G Mini, with the latter presumably being a slightly smaller/less powerful version of its big brother. Unfortunately the details of either handset is scarce at the moment as the announcement was actually made by J. Wong, the CEO of Meizu, on his Weibo account in response to a user asking about the device. The only thing he was able to confirm was that the MX4G would sport a 5” display but apart from that not much else was revealed.

Based on past rumors, it had been suggested that the Meizu MX4G would come in at least two variants, so we’re guessing the MX4G and the MX4G Mini would be it. Last we heard, the rumored specs of the MX4G included a 5.5” 2560×1536 display, possible 4G LTE connectivity, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and will come packed with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. We’re not sure when Meizu plans to unveil their new devices in full, but we’re guessing with MWC 2014 around the corner, perhaps Meizu might take advantage of that stage to make their announcement, hopefully with details surrounding US availability of their new flagship device.

Meizu To Share European Expansion Details At MWC 2014

Meizu To Share European Expansion Details At MWC 2014The US market is a market that many companies are hoping to break into, and Meizu is one of them. The company announced last month that they were planning a big push into the US, but it looks like the US market is not the only market they have their sights on. According to the company, it seems that they are looking to make an entrance into the European market as well and will be announcing their plans to do so at MWC 2014 which will be taking place in the later part of February. According to Sierra Ma, Meizu’s head of international business, the company will officially announce which countries in Europe they will be officially entering, and on top of that will attempt to edge out the competition like Samsung by making their handsets 30% cheaper.

The kick things off, the Meizu MX3 will be one of the phones the company will be bringing to the US. The handset packs a 5.1” display with an odd resolution of 1800×1080 and will be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 5 processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8MP camera, and will run on Meizu’s custom Android UI. However it is also expected that Meizu could introduce a much higher-end model, one with a display that will offer over 500PPI, joining the likes of manufacturers such as Oppo and Vivo, both of whom have announced devices with 2K resolution displays as well. Either way if you love what Meizu has been doing and were hoping you could get your hands on their products in Europe, it looks like 2014 will be your chance to do so.

Meizu MX3 Spotted Running On Ubuntu

Meizu MX3 Spotted Running On UbuntuFor those of you who have been looking forward to the regular Meizu MX3 roll out to the masses living in the US, you might be pleased to hear that this particular smartphone will arrive in the US later in the third quarter of the year. This particular model will run on the Flyme 3.0 custom Android user interface, but here we are with a snapshot of what looks to be the Meizu MX3 that will run on the Ubuntu operating system instead.

The photo that you see above hails from Meizu’s official account on Weibo.com, which is a Chinese social networking site that many have attributed it to be the “Twitter of China.” It was not too long ago when Canonical, the people behind Ubuntu, made an announcement concerning Ubuntu mobile OS making a move from being an aftermarket solution to a full-fledged mobile operating system. In fact, Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth did also talk about a potential hardware partner that will deliver a smartphone with Ubuntu right from the get go without specifying the name of that handset. I guess the mystery’s solved now, with it being the Meizu MX3. The Meizu MX3 should have enough processing firepower underneath the hood to be able to handle any kind of Ubuntu heavy lifting.
