Meizu MX3 U.S. Launch Planned For Q3, 2014

Meizu MX3 U.S. Launch Planned For Q3, 2014[CES 2014] China’s smartphone market is catered to by a wide variety of companies which often manufacture some of the most unorthodox smartphones that the world has ever seen. These smartphones rarely ever make it outside China, but Meizu seems to be on a mission to globally expand its devices. The company has confirmed that the Meizu MX3, which was officially announced back in September 2013, is going to be launched in the U.S. come Q3, 2014. They have showcased the smartphone at CES 2014 at Las Vegas. (more…)

Meizu Not Planning On Taking A Cut From Developers From Their App Store

Meizu Not Planning On Taking A Cut From Developers From Their App StoreThe thing about app stores is that usually whoever owns the app stores get a cut of the revenue that developers make. It’s common practice and it applies to Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, all of whom have app stores themselves. So if one were to make a new app store, how would they encourage developers to hop on board? Well Meizu has a plan to help promote their app store and according to the Chinese company, they will not be charging developers anything and will allow them to keep 100% of their revenue! Given that Meizu’s smartphones are running on Android, we guess it can’t hurt developers to put their apps on there as well as the Google Play store and earn a bit of extra money.

Meizu has recently announced plans to enter the US market and given that the US market is one of the bigger markets that manufacturers would love to enter, offering developers such a tantalizing deal is a great start. We’re not sure how many developers will actually take up Meizu on their offer, so we guess we will just have to wait and see. The company has also revealed that they plan on unveiling new products at CES 2014, so if you’d like to see what Meizu has to offer, be sure to check back with us during CES 2014 for all the details! In the meantime how do you guys think Meizu will do with their app store? Will their tactic allow them to succeed?

Meizu MX4G Rumored To Come In Two Variants

Meizu MX4G Rumored To Come In Two VariantsWe have been hearing rumors that Meizu is planning a successor to its Meizu MX3 smartphone in the form of the Meizu MX4G, a device which looks like it will be getting a 2K display of its own and pack a pixel density of over 500ppi. While it seems that 2K displays on smartphones are starting to become the standard of 2014, new rumors have surfaced suggesting that the Meizu MX4G might come in more than one variant, with the high-end model expected to be known as the Meizu MX4 Pro. So what’s the difference in models, you ask?

Well if the rumors are true, there will be two models: an ultra high-end model, and a high-end model. The ultra high-end model is expected to sport the rumored 2K display, while the high-end model will instead use a Full HD 1080p display which has more or less become the standard of smartphone displays in 2013. The high-end model is also rumored to be powered by MediaTek’s octa-core processor, and we can only assume the same will apply to the ultra high-end model as well.

The rumors are also claiming that one of the models will feature a Lytro-like camera system which allows users to shoot photos first and tweak its focus after. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we have heard the announcement by Meizu on how they plan to enter the US market and will debut their products at CES 2014.

Meizu Announces Plans To Enter The US Market

Meizu Announces Plans To Enter The US MarketMeizu is a company that some of you might not have heard of. After all they are one of many companies from China that have been producing their own brand of smartphone, joining the likes of Huawei, ZTE, Oppo, and etc. However the company has been making waves as of late and have even been rumored to launch a handset that could sport a 500ppi display. Well if you’re looking forward to getting your hands on Meizu’s technology, you could be in luck as the company has recently announced their plans to enter the US market.

According to Meizu’s press release, “As the first step in a long-term strategy to pursue the U.S. market, MEIZU will preview its line of smartphones at CES 2014 Booth LVH#51001. Combining the elegance and functionality of today’s smartphones with consumer-friendly pricing, MEIZU believes there’s room in the U.S. market for another player.” It is unclear what sort of phones Meizu will be debuting at CES 2014, but with the Meizu MX3 officially announced and rumors of a Meizu MX4G making their rounds, perhaps we could be seeing either, or maybe even both phones at the convention. We will be live at CES 2014 so be sure to check back with us then for the details.

Meizu MX4G Touted To Break 500ppi Barrier

Meizu MX4G Touted To Break 500ppi BarrierDo you agree that records are meant to be broken? Of course, this particular saying goes both ways – it could be for the good, as well as for the bad. In the world of smartphones, we have seen displays get larger and larger over the years, that nowadays, anything that is less than 5” is deemed to be “small”. Well, having a Full HD display on your smartphone does not quite cut the mustard any more, as Meizu’s CEO J. Wang has already begun to tease the successor to the Meizu MX3, which would be known as the Meizu MX4G.

The Meizu MX4G gives the game away concerning the inclusion of 4G LTE connectivity, but one would also need to take into consideration that its display would be a surefire killer. Word has it that the Meizu MX4G will ship with a 5.5″ 1536 x 2560 pixels display, which would clearly place it in Ultra HD category, while being an exclusive member of the 500+ ppi pixel density club.

Just how high do you think the pixel density on smartphone displays should go before it does not make any difference? After all, your eyes can only take in so much, no? We do wonder when will the rest of the pack catch up.

World’s first 128GB phone now available from Meizu, but only works in China

You may recall that a little while back we checked out China’s Meizu MX3, and in addition to its unique 15:9 1,800 x 1,080 display, one of its other selling points is the 128GB storage option. Well, this version is finally available as of today, except it’s only offered to the TD-SCDMA variant of the phone, meaning you can only use it on China Mobile’s network or, if you’re desperate, any GSM 2G network. If that’s no problem and you have an address in China, then you can head over to online store JD.com and hand over CN¥3,999 (about US$660) for the 5.1-inch, Exynos 5 Octa-powered device off contract.

As for the rest of us, it’s probably just a matter of time before the WCDMA-flavored MX3 gets the same treatment, so stay tuned. Alternatively, the upcoming Vivo Xplay 3S is rumored to have a 128GB option as well, and given that it’ll support both TD-LTE and FD-LTE, it might be a better buy for us speed freaks outside China.

Meizu MX3 AnTuTu Benchmark Breaks 29,000 Points Barrier

Meizu MX3 AnTuTu Benchmark Breaks 29,000 Points BarrierThe Meizu MX3 was recently introduced to the world at its announcement in China recently, where it holds the record of being the first smartphone in the world to arrive with 128GB of internal memory – as other smartphones in the market max out at 64GB at best. Apart from that, the Meizu MX3 also happens to be the first non-Samsung device that will be powered by the Exynos 5410 octa-core processor, and after putting the Meizu MX3 through its paces on an AnTuTu performance benchmark, the figures are pretty solid.

After all, the Meizu MX3 has been spotted on the AnTuTu database with a score of over 29,000 points, but it did that just barely without coming near the 30,000 mark. Apart from that, its data has also confirmed that the Meizu MX3 will be powered by Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice, with the Flyme 3.0 user interface running atop it. Apparently, the Exynos 5410 octa-core has also been clocked up to a speed of 1.6GHz. This would make it a wee bit faster than the Galaxy S4 that runs with the same “heart”, but overall, the difference between the two in AnTuTu benchmarks remain minimal. If you have a choice between the two, which one would you go for?
