For those who have yet to play Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, apparently the ending is one that is particularly violent and heartbreaking, but that’s exactly what Kojima had intended. (more…)

Hideo Kojima Wouldn’t Mind Stepping Away From The MGS Franchise

Hideo Kojima Wouldnt Mind Stepping Away From The MGS FranchiseHideo Kojima is probably well-known to gamers around the world as being the director and producer for the Metal Gear series of video games. That being said we’re sure that Kojima would love to branch out into other areas and other games, wouldn’t he? After all no one likes being pigeonholed, even if they’re pretty damn at their job.

Well it turns out that Kojima has expressed his interest in taking a step back from the role of producer for the Metal Gear series so that he can concentrate more on newer games and ideas, but unfortunately it seems that passing the torch and finding a successor is not as easy as he would like to think. Konami Starts Selling MGS5 Themed Merchandise

Konami Starts Selling MGS5 Themed MerchandiseFans of games, television series, movies, and comics are more often than not willing to sport merchandise that shows off their love for the game, movie, and etc. Well if you’re a huge Metal Gear Solid fan and you would love to show off your loyalty to the franchise, you might be pleased to learn that Hideo Kojima has announced there will be Metal Gear Solid clothing available for purchase via Konami’s Japanese store. As it stands the company is offering jackets and shoes, with the jackets being of the track jacket variety. It will come in two design options, one of camo and the other in dark gray, both emblazoned with the Diamond Dogs insignia. The jackets are expected to retail for $147.

Next up are the shoes which is a collaboration with Puma. One of them sports a camo these with a hidden dog design within the design of the shoe itself, so you might have to keep a close eye on it. The other design appears to be a more somber design with a dark colored finish (we can’t tell if it’s black or a dark brown). According to Kojima, “I’ve been true loyal & wearing PUMA shoes for last 10 years. Assure u the quality of our collab w PUMA.” Unfortunately the shoes are a tad more expensive at $195 for a pair, but they do look pretty spiffy and if you’re a fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and the Puma brand, perhaps you might want to consider them. The shoes and jackets will be available come March 20th and you can check them out at Konami’s online store.

Ground Zeroes Gets Console Comparison Screenshots

Ground Zeroes Gets Console Comparison ScreenshotsSony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles have been released for a couple of months now, but we’re sure that there are many gamers out there who are still deciding which platform they should go for. We expect decisions will be made depending on the games that are released on either platform, but for gamers looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, the game is pegged for a release in March and if you’re wondering whether you should play the game on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, or the PS4, you might be interested to learn that Konami have uploaded a series of screenshots showing how the game will look like graphically on different platforms.

It should be noted that the game will run at 720p on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Xbox One, while on the PS4 it will run at 1080p which is obviously at a higher resolution. Konami’s blog also confirms that the frame rates gamers can expect will be 30fps at 720p for the PS3 and the Xbox 360, 720p at 60fps with the Xbox One, and 1080p at 60fps with the PS4. Naturally with newer hardware, the Xbox One and PS4 versions appear to be superior graphically compared to their predecessors, although with the PS4 at 1080p, it does have a slight edge. For casual gamers this might not necessarily be a big deal, but if you’re curious about the differences, hit up Konami’s blog for the details.

Limited Edition MGS5 PS4 Bundle Unveiled

Limited Edition MGS5 PS4 Bundle UnveiledJust the other day we reported that Hideo Kojima teased that there might be some kind of Metal Gear Solid 5 collaboration between the company and Sony’s PlayStation 4. Well sure enough it turns out that the speculators were right in that Sony would be launching a MGS5 themed PlayStation 4 console in collaboration with Kojima Productions. This announcement came about the studio’s Twitter account in which the limited edition console was revealed. According to the announcement, the limited edition PlayStation 4 would be known as the Fox Edition and would come with the Fox emblem emblazoned on the side of the console and a copy of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes.

According to the announcement, the bundle would be priced at 46,980 yen which when converted is roughly $462. Given that the PS4 alone costs $399, we reckon that a limited edition model along with a game for $462 doesn’t seem like too bad a deal. The bundle will also be seeing a release in Japan come 20th of March. Unfortunately there was no mention as to whether those of us living stateside would be given the pleasure of owning the bundle. Also chances are if it does arrive stateside, its price tag will probably be different as well. Then again we expect that enterprising gamers in Japan will probably buy it and resell it online for a higher price, so that’s one avenue gamers can explore if the bundle is limited to a Japan-only release.

Hideo Kojima Teases MGS 5 PS4 Collaboration

Hideo Kojima Teases MGS 5 PS4 CollaborationIn the past, there have been multiple Metal Gear Solid branded Sony consoles released. In fact a series of tweets of Metal Gear Solid producer, Hideo Kojima, has taken us on a trip down to memory lane where he posted several photos of Metal Gear Solid PlayStation products, like the PlayStation 3 pictured above, as well as different versions of the PSP, all of which have been given the Metal Gear Solid branding. So what is Kojima up to? Is he simply reliving some fond memories of the past? Perhaps, but in a tweet following said photos, Kojima wrote in Japanese saying, “After all, I wonder if you want a limited edition?”

Now we can’t say for sure what Kojima meant by that statement, but some have begun to speculate that he could be talking about a possible Metal Gear Solid 5 branded PlayStation 4. This was later “confirmed” in a follow up message which read, “[SONY] × [PS4] × [MGS GZ] collaboration initiative is in progress. More information at a later date.” Metal Gear Solid 5 is set for release either later this year or next, with its prologue, Ground Zeroes, pegged for a release on the 18th of March 2014. We’re not sure what the exact details are concerning this collaboration/bundle, but we will be keeping an eye out for it. In the meantime, who else is looking forward to a MGS 5 PS4 bundle?

MGS 5: The Phantom Pain Might See 2015 Release

MGS 5: The Phantom Pain Might See 2015 ReleaseMetal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, is expected to be the prequel to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pan which is why it is going to be released ahead of The Phantom Pain. However given that Ground Zeroes is said to take about 2 hours to complete, we’re sure there are those out there who will probably complete it in no time and are itching for the next game. Well the good/bad news is that depending on how development goes, it is expected that The Phantom Pain could be released as soon as October 2014, or as late as December 2015.

This comes from analyst David Gibson who translated a conference call from Japan this week. According to Gibson, “Konami admitting Ground Zeroes is a bit short, MGS5 could be released in FY3/2015 or FY3/2016 depending on the development stage” We’re sure many gamers would love to jump right into the main game itself with The Phantom Pain, but as the game’s producer, Hideo Kojima, has stated previous, Ground Zeroes is meant to be a highly replayable game and that its short “complete time” should not be used to judge the game. Ground Zeroes is expected to be released on the 18th of March so hopefully the game really does live up to expectations and sets the tone for what’s to come.
