Windows Phone 8.1s Cortana Voice Assistant Feature Is OfficialAs per earlier rumors, Microsoft has officially unveiled Cortana, Windows Phone 8.1’s personal assistant. During the presentation, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore stressed that Cortana will be launched as beta, which we can’t help but feel is a jab at Apple’s Siri which did not exactly perform as advertised and was later revealed to be in beta mode. Cortana Spotted On Bing Personalization Page Ahead Of Announcement

Cortana Spotted On Bing Personalization Page Ahead Of AnnouncementOne of the upcoming features of Windows Phone 8.1 is allegedly a voice assistant named Cortana after the AI in the Halo game franchise. Microsoft has yet to confirm this feature but based on leaked photos and videos, it seems to be pretty real, and with hours away from Microsoft’s BUILD conference, it seems that Cortana is already featured on the Bing personalization page.

The page has since been taken down but not before a screenshot was captured (see picture above) which more or less confirms the feature. Not much is known about Cortana for now or what the full extent of its capabilities are, but it is said to be very tightly integrated with Bing. This is hardly surprising since we doubt Microsoft would want Cortana pulling up Google search results, right? (more…)

Does Microsoft Want To Power Your Coffee Mug As Well?

Does Microsoft Want To Power Your Coffee Mug As Well?We will be there at BUILD 2014, and are more than interested to see just what Microsoft has in store for the masses. Of course, there will always be speculation of a new Lumia smartphone, but until the day arrives and something official is announced, do expect a fair number of rumors to continue to float around. Having said that, Microsoft’s newly launched website that is known as “Windowsondevices.com” touts that the software giant intends to lay the foundation in developing the next generation of connected devices, where among them might include a smart coffee mug, a teddy bear, basically anything else that as of right now, has nothing to do with the Internet whatsoever.

So when will this rumored device be unveiled, if at all? Well if a recent tweet from the Microsoft Surface account in Japan is anything to go by, it seems that we can look forward to some kind of Surface-related announcement at the Microsoft BUILD conference which will be taking place tomorrow. Users Migrating From Windows XP Prefer Windows 7 Over Windows 8

In about a week Microsoft is going to kill support for Windows XP, one of the most popular iterations of its operating system. It has been around for a long, long time and there are still a lot of users out there who haven’t updated to subsequent iterations. The company has been trying to raise awareness about the potential threats that may rise after support for Windows XP is stopped. It has even started offering a $100 discount to users who jump ship from Windows XP to Windows 8.1, the latest iteration. But it appears that those migrating prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8.
