Now it should be noted that the headset adapter will only have stereo output through the controller, but according to Albert Penello, the director of product planning for the Xbox One, surround sound could be coming in the future. Many were probably wondering what would happen to Nokia’s CEO, Stephen Elop, once Microsoft had finally acquired the company. Well according to earlier reports, some had believed that Elop might be in running to be Microsoft’s new CEO, but we all know how that ended as Microsoft had decided to go with Satya Nadella instead.

Well it turns out that Elop will soon be getting a new job at Microsoft where he will be taking control of Microsoft’s Devices and Studios division, which currently is in charge of the Xbox, the Surface tablets, and basically Microsoft’s game and entertainment studio. (more…)

I’m not sure if you should be getting your hopes up quite yet, but rumors have started to circulate around the Internet that Microsoft will be opening up the @live.com email addresses tomorrow for public registration. There is no official word from Microsoft that this will be happening, but the timing sounds about right. Back in June the Windows Live Product Manager said that the addresses will be available this fall, and we are indeed midway through the fall.

If you’ve been reading our site over the last year you probably already have an @live.com email address from one of the many loopholes that were found (here, here, here, and here). Microsoft had pondered shutting down all of the accounts that were created from those tricks, but they realized that doing so would anger their most hardcore users.

Remember, this can be your chance to get an email address people can easily remember. I managed to sneak in on one of the loopholes last year and snatched up my name, but I still only use Gmail. It is nice to have my name, however, in case I ever decide to switch over in the future.

If Microsoft does launch the @live.com email addresses tomorrow we’ll be sure to keep you informed.

Even though the economy isn’t at its best, both Microsoft and Apple seem to be doing well. A couple of recent articles point this out:

In Microsoft’s annual revenue report, they announced that they have seen the fastest revenue growth since 1999 which fueled a 32% increase in earnings per share. Helping their earnings was none other than Windows Vista. Thus far they have sold over 180 million licenses since launch which isn’t too shabby at all. Also helping revenue was Microsoft Office and the Xbox 360. Their annual revenue was $60.42 billion which is an 18% increase from their last fiscal year. No one can argue that $60 billion is an impressive number.

Apple isn’t doing too shabby either when it comes to sales of computers. A recent report is saying that Apple’s sales of computers grew 38% over the previous period. This now gives them 8.5% of the market. It certainly doesn’t come close to the market share that PC’s enjoy, but it does make them one of the fastest growing computer manufacturers out there.

People can jump to conclusions that one company, either Microsoft or Apple, is better than the other, but when it comes down to it, both are very successful in what they do which is important.
