Earlier we had reported how Microsoft had officially launched OneDrive, which was basically the rebranding of SkyDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage services. According to our earlier report, it was suggested that OneDrive users would be able to earn themselves additional free storage by referring their friends/family members to the service, where every referral would nab them an additional 500MB, with a total of 5GB up for grabs. Well if you think that 5GB isn’t enough, how does 100GB sound to you? Earlier Microsoft had teased users, prompting them to login at 11:11AM PT, and for those who did, they were given 100GB in free storage. Obviously the deal is now over, but the good news is that it is still applicable if you were to walk into a Microsoft Store.
This is according to a tweet by @OneDrive where OneDrive users would be able to win themselves an additional 100GB in storage if they were to walk into a Microsoft Store and speak to a rep about it. Basically you’d need to tell the rep that you want to activate a free OneDrive account, or show them proof that you have an existing OneDrive account, and you’d be good to go! Unfortunately this deal is limited to the first 10,000 across all of Microsoft’s physical stores in the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada. The next 20,000 customers will be getting a consolation prize of 20GB, which we guess is still pretty good. This promotion will be valid starting from today until the 24th of February at 2:59AM ET.
Microsoft Stores Offering Free 100GB To OneDrive Users original content from Ubergizmo.
Back in October 2013, Microsoft launched their brand new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets. Both tablets offered up WiFi connectivity but at the same time, we’re sure that many wouldn’t mind if the tablets came with an LTE option. After all not everywhere provides WiFi and tethering to your phone is a good and quick way to use up your data. The good news was that during an AMA on Reddit, the Surface team promised that Surface 2 tablets with LTE and GPS connectivity will be launched in 2014, and the good news is that it looks like we’re one step closer. This is thanks to a recent FCC filing where an LTE-enabled Surface 2 tablet was spotted.
Given that Surface boss, Panos Panay, stated that the Surface 2 with LTE will be arriving on AT&T, we can only assume that the model spotted at the FCC will be destined for AT&T’s networks. As for other countries, it seems that Microsoft has partnered with Vodafone so if you wanted your Surface 2 with LTE, you’d have to head on over to Vodafone for it. There’s no telling when the LTE version will be launched, or if we will see a Surface Pro 2 with LTE, but we reckon it’s still good news nonetheless. Hopefully we will learn more about the tablet’s availability soon, if not at Microsoft’s Build conference which will take place in April.
Surface 2 With LTE Spotted At The FCC original content from Ubergizmo.
Last October, Microsoft announced that it would roll out an LTE-enabled Surface 2 for AT&T’s network. Sometime. The announced time frame was early 2014, and, sure enough, the device has just been found in the public FCC database, which means it’s nearing release. This will be the first Surface tablet that ships with built-in cellular connectivity.
When a device hits the FCC database, it often means that it has passed the commission’s battery of testing to make sure it’s safe for consumers. Among other things, the FCC tests devices that transmit wirelessly. Some of these documents are released while others, often the docs that contain specific information, are held under confidentiality agreements for several weeks until the device is officially released or announced.
Around the announcement of the LTE Surface 2, there was talk of a so-called Surface Mini with a 7- to 8-inch screen hitting the market in early 2014, as well. Info on this model is still MIA. Chances are, with a device of that significance, Microsoft isn’t going to let it hit the FCC database and ruin the surprise.

Earlier this week the Xbox One media remote was spotted on Amazon. It quickly caught everyone’s attention because Microsoft hasn’t mentioned this accessory up till now, for now the only ways of controlling an Xbox One are through Kinect or the console’s controller. A media remote would bring a much more traditional method of controlling the new console, but its not known for sure exactly when Microsoft intends to launch it. Folks at The Verge have apparently heard from people familiar with the company’s plans that Xbox One media remote will be launched later this week.

There have been a whole lot of rumors about Windows Phone 8.1 over the past few weeks. Microsoft is expected to launch this major platform update within the next couple of months, and its expected to bring quite a lot of new features for Windows Phone devices. Apparently in Windows Phone 8.1 it will be called Action Center, and while we have seen a leaked picture of it in the past, today a video has been posted online which shows off Windows Phone 8.1 Action Center in all its purported glory.
