Facebook and Google Are Buying Up the Cables That Carry the Internet

It can get a little bit annoying when people ramble on about how Facebook and Google are taking over the world. They’re just websites! But when those websites start to buy up other things, say, the very cables that connect the people of the world—well that’s actually pretty alarming.

Xbox 360 users rejoice: Microsoft hasn’t abandoned you

While users of the recently past generation of gaming consoles could very well be (rightfully) worried about the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 taking away support from their precious Xbox 360 and PS3 units this season, Microsoft appears to be keeping scares at bay. What the company is doing instead is reassuring the public […]

Surface Mini Rumored To Feature Kinect Like Motion Sensing

Surface Mini Rumored To Feature Kinect Like Motion Sensing

Microsoft has already released two generations of its Surface tablets, for now it appears to be committed to its tablet project, which has yielded mixed results in various markets around the globe. Rumors have circulated for quite some time now that Microsoft has yet another tablet up its sleeve, one with a small form factor than the existing Surface tablets. Called the Surface Mini, this tablet is believed to be unveiled next year. As per the latest rumors, its possible for this tablet to coming with Kinect like motion sensing features, which would allow users to control it through hand and face movements.

The rumor that Surface Mini tablet will come with similar somatosensory technology employed by Kinect, also made by Microsoft, comes from Chinese publication WPDang which claims to have received it from an anonymous source. The source claims that this feature will work much smoother than the gesture features currently offered by Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. Other rumors specifications of this tablet include an 8 inch full 1080p HD display, an Intel Bay Trail Processor and Windows 8.1. No information on pricing or availability has been made public as yet, the design itself is yet to be seen. Microsoft has not confirmed as yet when we can expected to see the Surface Mini tablet.

Vista pushes back the Mac OS X Leopard Release Date to October?

This article was written on March 23, 2007 by CyberNet.

Vista MacAll sites that mention Apple’s next big operating system release, called Leopard, say that the release will be late April or early May. DigiTimes is going against what the rest of the Internet is speculating by saying that the release date will be in October of 2007. Why such a delay? Vista…

The sources pointed out that the launch delay is not due to software design problems with Leopard but instead is attributed to Apple’s plan to have its new OS support Windows Vista through an integrated version of Boot Camp. Boot Camp is an Apple software application that currently assists in the installation of Windows XP on computers using Apple’s latest OS. The company hopes with support for Vista, Mac computers using the new OS can grab more market share, according to the sources.

To try and squeeze out some more info Mary Jo Foley contacted Apple hoping for an informative response. All she got was this:

We don’t comment on rumors and we’ve made no announcements about Leopard availability more specific than Spring 2007.

Ahh, but wait! Does this mean it is definitely coming in the next few months? Nah, as Mary Jo pointed out that could just mean that only a select few people may know about the delay right now.

I think that getting Vista to work with Boot Camp is important, but probably not initially. Why not just release the new operating system and provide the updates further down the road? I don’t think that Vista compatibility is a reason to hold an entire Mac operating system back from being released…unless Apple is just going to use that as their scapegoat?

Oh yeah, and people are already installing Vista on Mac’s, but a little bit of troubleshooting may be needed. Just hop on over to this instructions page if you need more information on setting up Vista on a Mac using Boot Camp.

Skype Now Runs On Windows Azure

Skype Now Runs On Windows AzureIt seems that Microsoft is not about to just offer the use of its Windows Azure cloud-based server service exclusively to other companies, but also to have their very own products and services take advantage of it as well. According to Scott Guthrie, Microsoft’s vice president for Windows Azure, he has just confirmed that Skype is now up and operational based on Azure servers. Guthrie mentioned, “Skype, a lot of which is built here in our London developer centre, is also now running on Azure.”

Apart from that, Office 365 authentication as well as security will also pass through Azure servers, not to mention the back end for Xbox Live and the new Xbox One console happen to be heavily dependent on Azure to boot. As for SkyDrive, this consumer cloud data storage service is also right smack in the middle of a transition period to the Azure platform, and as Guthrie stated, “SkyDrive, they are in the process of decommissioning their old servers and moving everything onto Azure. All new storage on SkyDrive now goes to Azure.” However, do bear in mind that it is not every single online service from Microsoft that will be able to perform the leap over to Azure.

Windows Phone Store Boasts Over 200,000 Apps

Windows Phone Store Boasts Over 200,000 AppsWhile apps might technically have been around for a while, even on feature phones where one could download a limited selection of applications for their phones, it’s safe to say that it was thanks to iOS that apps really took off, which is why it is not surprising that the iTunes App Store numbers more than a million apps, along with the Google Play store for Android, showing how important and how popular apps are these days. Unfortunately for the likes of Windows Phone, apps aren’t as varied compared to iOS and Android, but the good news is that they’re slowly getting there.

According to a recent blog post published by Microsoft, it was revealed that the Windows Phone Store now boasts over 200,000 apps to date. Granted this is only a fraction of what iOS and Android has, but like we said they are slowly getting there. Microsoft has been luring and encouraging developers to develop for their platform, and their latest win would be finally getting Instagram onto Windows Phone after what seemed like an eternity. We’re not sure how long it will take for Microsoft to catch up to iOS and Android, but what do Windows Phone owners think so far? Are you starting to notice a lot more variety compared to before?

Xbox One Blu-ray Movies At 24Hz Apparently Causing Audio Issues For Some Users

Xbox One Blu ray Movies At 24Hz Apparently Causing Audio Issues For Some Users

It is possible to use Microsoft’s latest gaming console to play Blu-ray movies, however users are first required to download a Blu-ray player app before they can enjoy their favorite movies. It appears that a number of Xbox One owners are complaining about audio sync issues when they playback a Blu-ray movie with the 24Hz refresh rate option turned on. A number of Xbox One owners have spoken out about the issue on the official Xbox support forums and while an alternative fix has been proposed, Microsoft is yet to talk about a proper fix for this issue.

Some owners in the support forum thread claim that they fixed the issue by simply turning the 24Hz refresh rate off. However its more a matter of personal preference. Those who want to want Blu-ray movies on their Xbox One with the option turned on should be able to, but apparently the on/off fix doesn’t work for all Xbox One owners so its not like there’s a guarantee that turning the option off will get rid of audio syncing issues. A Microsoft Support team member last weighed in on the post about a back, suggesting that the app be removed and reinstalled. Have you faced a similar issue on your console?
