Minecraft Achieves Lifetime Sales Of More Than 35 Million To Date

Minecraft Achieves Lifetime Sales Of More Than 35 Million To DateNow here is a game that just about any publisher would love to have released – one that is hugely popular among the masses, not to mention the fact that it has also made its way to various platforms. I am referring to Minecraft, where its sales on the Mac and PC has just passed the 14 million mark, while its total lifetime sales has reached at least 35 million. Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson tweeted this particular milestone, and for those who are interested in sales figures of the Mac and PC versions can continue to look to it on the Minecraft website.

Mojang: 1 Million Plus Minecraft Copies On PS3 Sold

minecraftThe folks over at Mojang has just confirmed that they managed to sell more than a million copies of Minecraft for the PS3 console, which is pretty impressive by any and all accounts. In fact, the PS3 version of Minecraft was launched on the PlayStation Network on December 17th last year, where it came with a $20 price tag. This would point to moving more than a million copies from retailers to the hands of gamers themselves in a matter of five weeks or so, which is pretty impressive, but it still paled in comparison to the Xbox 360 version which sold over a million copies in just a matter of 5 days after it hit Xbox Live.

Unofficial Minecraft: Pocket Edition Version Could Be A Phone Security Issue

Unofficial Minecraft: Pocket Edition Version Could Be A Phone Security IssueWho would have thought that a game such as Minecraft would eventually become so popular? Well, that is what happened to Minecraft, which actually costs more than the usual $1 game on mobile platforms. Having said that, there might be some people who would take the chance of playing with an unofficial version of Minecraft: Pocket Edition, and this story would target just such a crowd. Apparently, Minecraft: Pocket Edition scammers have rolled out an unofficial version of the app which is capable of hacking your handset, where it will be followed by sending costly premium-rate messages from your account.

    Minecraft 1.8 Snapshot Spotted

Minecraft 1.8 Snapshot SpottedMinecraft is an interesting game title that has garnered its fair share of fans, and it just goes to show how we like to build things from scratch. Well, having said that, any particular game title with a large following would do well to receive updates and upgrades from time to time, and so the same applies to Minecraft. In fact, we have seen a snapshot of Minecraft 1.8, where Survival will now feature stacking doors as well as a trio of stone types.

Mojang’s 1.8 snapshot for Minecraft has been released, where it will finally fix one of the most egregious of errors, which would now allow doors to stack. This would mean you can now tote around multiple doors in your inventory all without having to fret as to whether there is enough space left or not. I suppose a major minor irritant (yes, try figuring that out!) like this has shown Mojang just how faithful their fanbase is. Of course, the ability to stack doors is not all there is to it in the 1.8 snapshot, as there are other different changes introduced to both Survival and Adventure mode, where the latter will no longer allow you to place or destroy blocks without the help of special items.

Notch Confirms Minecraft For Wii U Not In The Works

Notch Confirms Minecraft For Wii U Not In The WorksThe other day we reported on a rumor that Minecraft would be making its way onto Nintendo’s Wii U platform in the near future. This sort of made sense because not only would this spread the game’s popularity, but also because of the Wii U’s GamePad which would allow gamers to perform a variety of Minecraft actions on it, such as crafting new objects, for example. Like we said it did make sense but unfortunately the rumor has proven to be nothing but a rumor, as Minecraft’s creator, Markus “Notch” Persson, has revealed that Mojang has no plans on porting Minecraft onto the Wii U anytime soon.

Responding to fan requests on Twitter to bring the game onto Nintendo’s platform, Persson was quoted as saying, “I agree a Wii U version would make sense, btw. The only reason for no current plans is we’ve got too much work already. I <3 Nintendo.” According to earlier rumors, the game was said to be in the works as Nintendo had reportedly sent several Wii U development kits to Mojang to help them port the game onto the Wii U console, but alas it looks like that will not be happening. Persson does not completely rule out the possibility, at least based on his statement, but for now Wii U gamers and Minecraft fans will have to be content with Minecraft that is available on other platforms, such as the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and come 2014, the Xbox One and PS4 as well.

Minecraft For The Nintendo Wii U Rumored To Be In The Works

Minecraft For The Nintendo Wii U Rumored To Be In The WorksMinecraft was originally released for the PC, but due to its popularity, the game eventually made its way onto platforms like the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and with over 33 million units of the game reportedly sold to date, it looks like the game is a huge success. However there are still platforms left to conquer, such as Nintendo’s Wii U platform, and according to recent rumors, it has been suggested that Minecraft could be making its way onto the Wii U in the future. This is based on an anonymous source who spoke to the folks at NintendoEnthusiast and claimed that Mojang, the developer of the game, had recently received development kits for the Wii U and had already begun developing the game for the console.

The rumors claim that the GamePad would be used as part of the game, and given that the GamePad is what makes the Wii U console unique, we guess this is sort of unsurprising. It is unclear what the GamePad could be used for, but it has been speculated that perhaps it could be used to manage one’s inventory or craft new objects. So far developers haven’t exactly been supportive of Nintendo’s Wii U platform, with big name developers having no plans to launch games for the platform, or in some cases have even been removed certain features that other platforms get access to. With Minecraft expected to make its way onto the Xbox One and PS4 come 2014, adding the Wii U to the list of supported platforms would no doubt expand its reach.

Minecraft Paper Snowflakes Will Creep up Your Christmas

Minecraft fans will enjoy hanging these paper snowflakes on their Christmas tree this year. You have probably already downloaded and cut some other paper snowflakes. Now you can add some Creepers.

These snowflakes are from Instructables contributor Penolopy Bulnick. You can choose from snowflakes with weapons or one that looks like a bunch of Creepers. They looks great and blocky just like in the game. If your tree happens to be pixelated, these will look even better. At least until the Creepers explode.

You’ve spent hours upon hours playing the game, so you might as well deck the halls with Creepers this year. Have a very Minecraft Christmas and a Creeper New Year!

    Minecraft Virtual 3D Printer: Inkblocks

You can use a 3D printer to create replicas of items made in Minecraft. YouTuber ItsJustJumby did the opposite: he built a virtual 3D printer using Minecraft.  Actually he built a 3D modeling program, a computer and a 3D printer inside the game.

minecraft 3d printer by itsjustjumby 620x303magnify

You can say that Minecraft itself is a kind of virtual 3D printer: you stack tiny blocks in layers and eventually end up with a 3D object.  But ItsJustJumby’s setup is more automatic and even has a crude user interface. I’m not going to pretend to understand how his computer processes the instructions, but I can tell that it both makes 3D models and builds the final object out of wool blocks.

Now all that’s left to do is 3D print his 3D printer.
