21st Century Graffiti?

Stop. Before you read any further take a second to check out the names of wi-fi networks near you. You’ll always get a few with no special name. But it seems our neighbors are getting more and more creative with network names. “Police” and “Don’t Even Think About It” are a few of my personal favorites.

Addie Wagenknecht came up with a creative way to express ourselves through our network names. WiFi Tagger is essentially a hack for a TP-Link WR741ND router. Rather than broadcasting a single network name, the tagger enables up to 4 separate SSID/names  – each up to 32 characters.  If you have a compatible router visit here to load the app on your smartphone.  To change your networks name simply log onto your phone.

As Mark Wilson of FastCo Design says “Whereas spraypaint was the preferred tool in previous eras of snarky comments in public spaces, it’s apps like WifiTagger and tricks like Glitchr…that may well be the voice of young rebels raised online.” I agree and definitely think we are entering another generation of self-expression – WiFi Tagger being a perfect example. What do you suppose will be next?

Now, I am quite sure that you would have heard of the name Behringer before, and this time around, the audio company has announced that they have begun to ship their Eurolive B115D and B115MP3 active 2-way loudspeakers.

Specially designed to deliver instantly a superb sound quality for all kinds of musicians and artists in just about any live sound situation, both of these spanking new systems will boast of an integrated dual-channel mixer with 2-band EQ, a built-in sound processor and 1,000 Watts of Class-D bi-amplification. Sounds like a whole lot to handle, right? Well, it tips the scales at a mere 38.9lbs, which roughly translates to 17.7kg each.

Setting up this puppy is a snap, and it will not take too much of your time to do so. The special enclosure design allows both of them to be pole-mounted, stacked, or placed horizontally for floor monitor wedge applications. In addition, Behringer has ensured that a dedicated USB-style 3.0 input delivers seamless integration with Behringer’s new upcoming ULTRALINK Series wireless microphones, paving the way for two channels of supremely stable, natural-sounding wireless performance.

In addition, there is the state-of-the-art 1.35” aluminum-diaphragm compression driver which is touted to provide exceptional high-frequency reproduction. Sporting an 8-button user interface and high-contrast, multi-function LCD panel, you as the user can browse through the tracks in a jiffy, or just pick shuffle, repeat or single-play modes to suit your musical mood at that point in time. Regardless of which model you pick up, they are covered by Behringer’s 3-year limited warranty.

Comfortably Nap Anywhere!

“I love a good nap. Sometimes it’s the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning. ” A classic quote from George Costanza on Seinfeld. Recall the episode where he builds a little nap area under his desk. There was space for his blanket, alarm clock, even a cup.  Face it. Few of us get enough sleep. Napping anywhere sure would help on certain occasions.

Welcome to your new napping buddy, Ostrich Pillow. I’m guessing the picture might have gotten your attention. But seriously, if you have ever napped in a public place you know the challenges of a comfortable environment. Kawamura-Ganjavian, an architecture and design studio developed the concept and successfully finished their Kickstarter fundraising earlier this month with $195,094 (on a $70,000 goal). Studio Banana THiNGS is now producing and selling it. But what exactly is Ostrich Pillow? A combination of a pillow, cushion, bed and garment in one. The dark interior gives a little break from the world. Ostrich Pillow literally isolates you from the outside world once you slip it on. Tuck your hands in too if your surroundings allow. It enables you to power nap virtually anywhere. The product is machine washable too. Ostrich Pillow sells for $80 (plus shipping) on studiobananathings.com and is available to ship in the US, UK and Europe. So for those days where the need to nap takes over, look to Ostrich Pillow to give you a mini reprieve from the world.

Let the Music Keep You Running

If you are a gym go-er like me then you will easily relate to what I am about to say: some days are tougher than others to motivate. Other days you feel like you could keep going for hours on the elliptical or treadmill or what not. So many variables enter into our workout motivation. We have definitely become a society of earbuds while exercising. Face the facts, the right music at the right time helps. There’s nothing like reaching the end of your run, digging deep for your kick when that upbeat, motivational song comes on. Tunes truly carry us through some workouts.

Researchers at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville are about to present a new technology that could make music selection during workout obsolete. Shahriar Nirjon heads the team which created MusicalHeart, bio-feedback system made for smartphones. A special set of earbuds with a microphone imbedded in the earpieces pics up the throb of the arteries in your ear. The data is then paired with information from the accelerometer, built into an app, to determine your next song. This means when your heart rate is too low for your preset workout goals a more ‘heart pumping’ song will queue up. Or perhaps you have overdone it. Then you can look forward to a more mellow tune. The objective is to keep you within your desired BPM. Medical uses may possibly exist for anxiety disorders too. Read the full paper on MusicalHeart here. Though still just a concept it seems logical. Who knows, maybe someday soon our tunes will help us reach the exercise finish line.

Even Slices of Cake

Think back to childhood birthday parties. Was there no larger injustice than getting a smaller piece of cake than your sibling? Seriously, raise your hand if you did not ever throw a tantrum over getting the short end of the cake slice stick – so to speak. Old school cake slicers fit over the cake and smashed the entire thing. Not real classy.

Let the ingeniously named Cake Divider at Animi Causa eliminate this childhood trauma. Dial in the number of slices you want – either 6, 8 or 10. Then poke the sub 2 inch gadget into the middle of the cake (or pie). Insert your knife into the slot and slice. Then click the divider to the next slicing spot. For $13.99, cake slicing can’t get any easier or more even.

So end the childhood suffering based around uneven cake slices! Get a Cake Divider today.

Powered Pumice Stone – Not Your Mama’s Foot File

Our hands and feet give us away. Do we care for ourselves, are we older than we say? Have we worked hard all our lives, or been pampered? I guess because it’s a habit of mine to check peoples grooming, I tend to be a frequent mani-pedi person, and frankly that gets expensive, but if I want baby soft heels, to the salon I go.

Well our friends over at Hammacher Schlemmer may have an at home heel buffing option that might actually be worth the bucks. The Powered Pumice Stone, designed to remove the most hardcore dry skin and calluses from your otherwise pretty paws, the Powered Pumice Stone is actually a micro-mineral roller that spins at about 1800 RPM’s grinding down whatever thickened heel skin you have allowed your body to build up. Ew.

It looks a bit like an electric razor and comes with 2 different pumice rollers, a coarse one and one that’s extra coarse, yeah… you already know if you need that one. I look at it this way, no matter how bad you’re looking under those socks, you can get your feet ship shape by springtime. The Pumice Stone is powered by 2 AA batteries and only weighs around 6 ounces. So be good to your feet and get yours at Hammacher.com for only around 50 bucks, additional rollers are extra.

It looks like something from the future, sporting a high impact cover with wide-angle lens as well as an adjustable angle chest clip, accompanied by a flexible chest plate and elastic straps that allows you to capture some of the most daring moments in your life as you climb that mountain, jump out from the plane, or get involved as a professional pugilist.

Basically, any kind of adrenaline pumping activity that requires you to use both hands, and yet you want to record all that is going on in front of you, the Miveu POV Camera System will be able to fit the bill perfectly. The Miveu-X iPhone Case will come in the form of a rugged iPhone case that can clip itself right onto the back of your phone, boasting a replaceable wide-angle lens and a 360º ball joint which enables you to attach it to your chest.
