Mitsubishi is trying to make its small electric car more appealing to consumers by adding new standard features and significantly cutting the price for 2014. Mitsubishi announced this week that it was chopping over $6000 from the MSRP of the i-MiEV. The new starting price for the vehicle is $22995. That is a reduction of […]
Mitsubishi Reveals Multi-modal Character-Input Interface For Chinese Language Car Navigation Systems
Posted in: Today's ChiliMitsubishi has just announced that they will be offering a multi-modal character-input interface for Chinese language car navigation systems, targeting such next generation systems. This human-machine interface (HMI) is able to accepts not only QuanPin but ShuangPin input as well through the use of PinYin phonetic symbols. Apart from that, it is also able to recognize handwriting and audible commands, giving you a grand total of four input modes.
With the multi-modal character input system, those who are interested in checking in out will be able to do so – assuming you happen to be in Tokyo anytime from November 23 to December 1, over at the Tokyo Motor Show 2013. It will be showcased alongside Mitsubishi’s EMIRAI 2 concept vehicle, which should by itself, draw a fair number of curious onlookers to the scene. Why concentrate on China? That country happens to be the world’s largest market for car navigation systems, and the demand from those living in China does not look as though it is on the way to a downhill decline. The many faceted features of the Chinese language, however, has revealed that there is a rather strong need for flexible character-input methods which would be easy to use for all Chinese speakers. Nearly a couple of years ago, we were treated to a look at the EMIRAI conceptual car interface from Mitsubishi. Well, it has been two years since, and we are pleased to announce that Mitsubishi themselves have come up with some progress concerning this concept. In fact, the EMIRAI 2 will be a whole concept car by itself, and if you happen to make your way to the Tokyo Motor Show that is happening over the course of this weekend, it will be on display there. This particular ride happens to continue from where the original EMIRAI left off, where it will still feature a rear projection customizable dashboard display, biometrics capabilities, as well as a complete sensor array.
The pair of EMIRAI 2 electric-vehicle concept cars that are on display should not be short of curious onlookers. One of the two will feature an EV powertrain, while the other would boast of a driving-assistance system which is touted to make driving on the road safer as well as more comfortable. Just what will the EV powertrain system come with? For starters, it will incorporate high-accuracy traction control as well as acceleration control, while the driving-assistance system would boast of an integrated image sensing in addition to powered on-board display technologies. It will be a sight and treat for motorheads for sure.

[CEATEC 2013] In-vehicle technology has certainly progressed by a fair amount these days, where we are starting to see Heads Up Display units being integrated in various ways depending on the manufacturer, not to mention a futuristic looking driving cockpit that is further augmented by the use of a smartphone. One thing is for sure, the kind of interactivity which we have with our devices are a whole lot more intuitive using touch and gesture controls, and here we are with Mitsubishi and their free form display that is intended to be used in a car display system.

[CEATEC 2013] I do admit, nobody in this day and age would miss those good old days when you had to actually own a landline in order to connect to the Internet via an Internet Service Provider. Remember the username and password that were required before dialing it? Your ears subsequently met with a shrill shriek of the modem, and if you had a 56k modem then, it was the bomb, while your mates surfed to a 14.4k or 28.8k modem. Ask any kid today whether they would want to experience the Internet as it was back then, and they will most probably look at you and wonder, just how the heck did you survive in those days?
Mitsubishi is certainly a company that has the future in mind, where at CEATEC this year, they decided to show off a 100 gigabit/second (Gbps) inter-city optical interconnect solution. This sounds like a dream for many people, and even better is the fact that this unique optical network interconnect has an amazing range. Just how far is its reach? You might want to sit down before the shock floors you, as Mitsubishi proudly claims that their 100Gbps optical network interconnect has a massive range of up to 9,000 kilometers. That’s just insane!

Mitsubishi 4K LaserVue LCD TV
Posted in: Today's Chili[CEATEC 2013] Mitsubishi has paraded their 4K LaserVue LCD TV on the CEATEC showfloor, and while there was a “No photography allowed” sign shown, it seemed that nobody bothered to enforce this particular request, so here we are with a photo of Mitsubishi’s very first attempt at a 4K LCD TV. Of course, this remains as a prototype at this point in time, where it has a release date that has yet to be decided. In order to stand out from the rest of the competition, Mitsubishi’s effort will feature a high-color, laser backlight technology in its first 4K LCD TV effort.
This 65-inch 4K LCD TV will come with a red laser light source in the backlight, while there are blue and green LEDs which will work together in order to reproduce vivid textures and colors. So far, there has been a couple of LCD TVs that comes with laser as a light source released by Mitsubishi before – a 50-inch and 39-inch Real LaserVue models, but those are not 4K capable.
Kazuhiro Kurisaki, a Deputy Director of AV Display Manufacturing Division at Mitsubishi Electric’s Kyoto Works, mentioned, “Many companies have already put 4K-compatible LCD televisions onto the market, however we have made an effort to differentiate ourselves from other companies by developing a 4K television with high-color reproducibility achieved through a laser light source plus LED light sources as its backlighting. Although we have not set down a release date, I believe we can appeal to the high level of customer satisfaction that this 4K television will offer.” Simply put, this is one of those things where you need to see for yourself to believe it, and hopefully it will be priced competitively when it is finally released.
