NBA 2K14 Gets A Space Jam Makeover

We’re not sure how many of you guys remember the movie Space Jam from back in 1996, but in case you were too young, the movie basically featured Michael Jordan playing alongside the Looney Tunes characters and battling aliens in an epic basketball match. It might not necessarily have been the most convincing movie of all time but it was good and entertaining. Now the good news is that if you wanted to relive Space Jam, you can, thanks to an NBA 2K14 mod which basically introduces Looney Tunes characters and aliens into the game.

The mod was developed by NBA 2K series modder, MGX, so if you’re interested in checking out the mod for yourself and reliving some nostalgia, head on over to MGX’s Facebook page for the details. Granted the mod doesn’t exactly have that same cartoony feel and wonder you got from the movie, but we think MGX has done a great job by introducing the Looney Tunes characters and aliens as character models. Heck, even if you have never seen Space Jam but would love to switch up your gameplay a little bit, we reckon this mod should be able to do the trick. In the meantime for those who are wondering what they are about to get themselves into, check out the video above for the details!

This PC Case Mod Is A Work Of Art

This PC Case Mod Is A Work Of ArtWhen it comes to modding our PCs, for the most part the average modder would probably toss in a couple of extra LED lights, a couple more fans for extra cooling, or for the slightly more serious modder, perhaps a liquid cooling system as well. However we have in the past seen some more hardcore mods in which the end result looks more like a piece of art, rather than an actual computer, and it is safe to say that we can add Japanese designer, Hiroto Ikeuchi’s piece to that list. Upon a cursory glance you could be forgiven for not being able to tell that the masterpiece pictured above is in fact a complete PC setup, with a keyboard, monitor, CPU tower, a desk lamp, and even a webcam, all of which are camouflaged under a plethora of army miniatures.

Ikeuchi actually spent a good part of 2012 building this mod and was reportedly inspired by the likes of Gundam and Macross. The attention to detail here is astounding as it would seem that every single part of the mod is covered, with the keyboard even undergoing a more rugged and military look to help it blend in with the rest of the setup. Also if you’re wondering where is the mouse, well it’s right in front of you, only except that it has been disguised to look like a tank, along with a handful of USB flash drives which have also been disguised to resemble military objects. At the moment Ikeuchi’s masterpiece is only display at the Ars Electronica Center in Austria, with Ikeuchi is already planning his next piece.

2,000 hours later, Skyrim modder lands a job working on Destiny with Bungie

Having spent over 2,000 hours working on the enormous — and enormously impressiveSkyrim mod “Falskaar,” Alexander Velicky was dead set on getting a design job in the game industry. ” I set my sights on a professional design job pretty early, I lowered my head, charged forward, and rarely looked back,” he said in a recent forum post. Though you might expect his Skyrim chops would land him at Bethesda Softworks, the studio behind the beloved first-person RPG, he’s just accepted a job at Bungie Studios working on Destiny.

Velicky spent much of the last four years working on modding, first getting his start in Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 3. When Skyrim launched in 2011, he continued working with Bethesda’s modding tools, only this time he created a massive game with “20 – 30 hours” worth of exploration and questing — he even recorded new voiceover work and a unique soundtrack.

That whole cloth approach to modding assuredly helped land Velicky the new gig at Bungie, and it’s not the first time we’ve seen as much. Armed Assault 3 modder Dean Hall created Day Z, which is now being published as a standalone project. Take that as a lesson, y’all: dreams do come true! At least if you work incredibly hard at them.

Twittertape Machine Prints Tweets Instead of Stock Prices

Remember the days when ticker tapes would continuously churn out stock prices? Unless you’re somebody’s great grandparent, probably not. People have gone paperless these days, rendering these machines pretty much useless. Or are they?

    twittertape machine 1

While they’re not being used to print stock prices anymore, they are being used to print tweets. At least that’s what British web developer Adam Vaughan is doing with the steampunk-looking contraption that he built from scratch called the Twittertape Machine. The machine has a microcontroller and a thermal printer hidden on its base and connects to a computer via Ethernet. It then checks Adam’s Twitter account every half hour.

Adam explains where he got the inspiration for the Twittertape: “I got the idea that I’d really like to have one on my desk, but of course they’re incredibly rare now and sell for huge amounts of money. Then it struck me that even if I did manage to get one it would just sit there gathering dust, doing nothing. So I had the idea that I would build one of my own, one that actually functioned… I was trying to think about what information it could produce, and of course Twitter is just a perfect fit – short succinct messages just like the stock movements of old.”

NVIDIA SHIELD open source software release calls out walled garden competition

As spoken of early on in the initial announcements of NVIDIA’s gaming handheld SHIELD, the company has made good on their promise to allow full software modification and hacking with the release of open source downloads this week. Left 4 Dead 2 mutates past Linux beta, adds more mod tools

DNP Left 4 Dead 2 mutates beyond Linux beta, adds more mod tools

Left 4 Dead 2 is the latest game in Valve’s catalog to clamber out of the Steam for Linux beta. Unlike last week’s Half-Life 2 news however, the extra something coming along for the ride isn’t VR headset support — it’s a powerful suite of customization tools. The Extended Mutation System (EMS) gives the already robust modding community additional options for crafting one-off episodes and game type variants. For a glimpse of what EMS enables, play a round of “Holdout.” This new multi-map mode introduces buildable items and the concept of resources to the co-op zombie-slaying calamity. What’s more, Valve said it will add the most popular EMS creations to the official servers. Maybe with this, the world can finally witness our vision of the zombie apocalypse. Yeah, it involves marmosets.

Nerf Gun Gets Modded Into A Guitar, Pretty Awesome

Nerf Gun Gets Modded Into A Guitar, Pretty AwesomeIf there is one thing I indulge in once in a while, it would be the purchase and fooling around with Nerf guns. There’s just something incredibly satisfying about firing them off at your window, at friends, and sometimes even family! Anyway we’ve come across Nerf gun modifications before, but it looks like this particular modder, an Australian girl who goes by the handle Nerfenstein, has taken a Nerf gun and modded it into a guitar! Unfortunately the guitar does not actually play, but it looks pretty awesome and according to Nerfenstein, it will fire off rounds so you can only imagine how much cooler this would be if the guitar actually played. Sort of similar to the pyrotechnics rock bands would pull off back in the day, albeit safer.

According to Nerfenstein, this Nerf gun was made from a Nerf Rayven and was painted red, given a guitar neck where the tuning pegs are actually made from spent gun casings. The key sections are made from paint tube squeezers, so we have to give her props for her creativity. She has even named the gun/guitar NerFender, a nod to the Nerf gun and the Fender electric guitar. It’s pretty cool so head on over to Girly Gamer if you want to read more or see additional photos.
