Minecraft PS3 Edition Lands on Blu-ray May 16, Soon on PS4 and PS Vita

Both of my kids play Minecraft; they think it is the coolest game out there. My son plays it on the Xbox 360 and his iPhone. My daughter has a tablet that she carries with her to play on the go and likes the PS3 version on occasion. Each time I’m in the game store in the local mall, at least one kid comes in and asks if they have a copy of Minecraft only to be greeted with “that game is download only” and then spend their money on something else in the store.

I can’t imagine how many sales Mojang has lost in that fashion. Things are about to change with reports that on May 16, PS3 gamers will be able to buy a retail disc version of the game, with PS4 and PS Vita versions to follow soon thereafter.

Shipping games on disc seems obvious; it will make getting the game easier for kids and adults, and save those with slow web connections long waits to play. GameStop has the PS3 version available for pre-order now for $19.99(USD).

Minecraft 1.8 Snapshot Spotted

Minecraft 1.8 Snapshot SpottedMinecraft is an interesting game title that has garnered its fair share of fans, and it just goes to show how we like to build things from scratch. Well, having said that, any particular game title with a large following would do well to receive updates and upgrades from time to time, and so the same applies to Minecraft. In fact, we have seen a snapshot of Minecraft 1.8, where Survival will now feature stacking doors as well as a trio of stone types.

Mojang’s 1.8 snapshot for Minecraft has been released, where it will finally fix one of the most egregious of errors, which would now allow doors to stack. This would mean you can now tote around multiple doors in your inventory all without having to fret as to whether there is enough space left or not. I suppose a major minor irritant (yes, try figuring that out!) like this has shown Mojang just how faithful their fanbase is. Of course, the ability to stack doors is not all there is to it in the 1.8 snapshot, as there are other different changes introduced to both Survival and Adventure mode, where the latter will no longer allow you to place or destroy blocks without the help of special items.

Minecraft Documentary Now Free To Watch On YouTube

Do you think that humans love to build? I suppose the answer would be in the affirmative, especially when you take into consideration the fairly large number of architectural achievements that we have seen in the past, such as the ancient pyramids of Giza, or the Eiffel Tower, as well as the Treasury in Petra, Jordan. In the 21st century, here we are with video games that encourage gamers to build, from the Sim series of titles to Mojang’s ever popular Minecraft. There is the Minecraft documentary which is now available as a free to watch video on YouTube, although it was originally released sometime last year under the banner of 2 Player Productions.

This would mean you will now be able to enjoy quite the insight when it comes to the making of the indie phenomenon known as Minecraft. The title of the documentary is Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, where it will see Markus “Notch” Persson and his team at Mojang being followed through their first year, which would mean all the way from alpha development to full release. This is a full length documentary, make no mistake about it, so do expect a fair number of discussions and story with the Mojang team.

Mojang Patch Preview Reveals Detailed Smaller Oceans, Smoother Biome Transitions

Mojang Patch Preview Reveals Detailed Smaller Oceans, Smoother Biome Transitions Mojang’s Jens Begensten has recently put up in a new blog update details concerning Minecraft’s upcoming 1.7 patch for their hit title. To be more specific, he touched on the changes that were made to Minecraft’s world generator that will definitely have an impact on how worlds come together. Basically, the team wanted to take a look at how to improve three key areas – oceans that are too large for their own good, too uneven/random biome placement, and the lack of variation.

Jens shared, “One reason why we rarely do changes to the world generator is because every little change off-sets the world seed and causes noticeable borders between new and old terrain. A lot of people don’t mind about these borders, but we still want to avoid creating them. So, in order to avoid needing to change the world generator again in the nearest future, we try to do as many changes now as possible.”

Do you think that the solutions which will be introduced in Minecraft’s 1.7 patch will be able to make the game more enjoyable compared to what millions of players are already used to? Perhaps, as change has never been something that everyone welcomes. So far, the release date for Minecraft 1.7 has yet to be announced, to stay tuned.

Minecraft headed to PlayStation 4: Notch-gifted Golden PSOne a success

As the multi-platform gaming title Minecraft continues to expand in popularity with web browser, mobile, and console-based block-building action, today Sony announced the continuation of the title for PlayStation 4. This game will not be entirely exclusive to the console, coming in a Minecraft: Xbox One Edition from Mojang Studios with the launch of the […]

Notch explains decision to axe 0x10c, concentrate on ‘smaller’ games

Minecraft creator definitively kills '0x10c' spaceship game

When Marcus “Notch” Persson cancelled 0x10c, he laid the blame at the feet of a “weird creative block” that hampered his game development. In his blog, however, he has revealed that it was the sheer weight of fan expectation that killed the highly-anticipated space-sim. The Minecraft creator was so concerned about becoming “another under-delivering visionary game designer” that he’d rather ice the project than do a George Lucas. Instead, he’s going to concentrate on producing smaller games away from the public eye, adding that he’s looking forward to playing Project Trillek, 0x10c’s spiritual successor, when it’s done.

Mojang’s Scrolls launches in open beta today, $20 gets you access

Mojang's Scrolls launches in open beta today, $20 gets you access

Mojang’s best known for the indie blockbuster Minecraft, but today heralds the launch of the open beta for its new game, Scrolls. It’s been a long time coming, and the title itself was the focus of a courtroom squabble, as much as Notch would’ve liked to hash out the early roadblock in a rocket-filled arena. While it’s admittedly not “feature complete,” you can test your card-battling skills in casual and ranked online match-ups. The card trading forum is up and running, as is the in-game store for bolstering your deck using gold earned through triumph, and “shards” purchased with real dough. You can tweak your deck using the builder and 25 trials are available off the bat to school you in strategy. Access to the open beta will cost you $20, £13 or 15 euros, but really, you’re buying the full game early, as all future updates will be free to beta adopters. The purchase page isn’t live just yet, but it’ll be available to download for PC and Mac at some point today. Hit the source link to brush up on the mechanics if you can’t wait to attack the trials, or check out the trailer below for a quick fix.
