ASUS PQ321 Ultra HD 31.5″ display brings IGZO to the desktop

Ultra HD may be gaining momentum, but we’re still not used to seeing it packaged so neatly for the desktop as in the new ASUS PQ321 display. Offering 3840 x 2160 resolution spread across 31.5-inches, the new “True 4K” Monitor not only delivers four-times the pixels as regular Full HD, but does so using an IGZO panel that promises improved brightness and detail while sipping less power and coming in thinner than any other Ultra HD display.

IGZO panels use Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide, rather than amorphous silicon. Since that supports greater electron mobility – roughly 40x the amount, in fact – the pixels can be smaller than on traditional LCD panels.

ASUS doesn’t detail exactly where it’s getting the IGZO screen from, but the most obvious source is Sharp. The Japanese company announced back in April 2012 that it was entering bulk production of a 32-inch IGZO panel running at the same resolution as ASUS’ PQ321.

We’ve already seen IGZO prove its worth on smaller panels in the wide. A number of smartphones and tablets have been released for the Japanese market using Sharp’s screen technology; we spent some time with the Sharp AQUOS Tab SHT21, for instance, which promises a choice of either matching brightness from rival devices but with roughly double the battery life, or of boosting brightness to levels where the tablet can be easily used outside.

According to ASUS’ specs, the PQ321 delivers 140ppi and 350cd/m2 brightness, with an 8ms gray-to-gray response time. Viewing angles are 176-degrees in both directions, while inputs include DisplayPort, two HDMI, serial, and audio in/out. 2W stereo speakers are also fitted, and there’s picture-in-picture support.

The whole thing is 35mm at its thickest point (the stand adds to that, obviously), though you’ll still need a reasonably sized desk in order to accommodate a 31.5-inch display. A deep wallet is probably required, too; ASUS hasn’t announced pricing for the PQ321, but Sharp’s own 32-inch Ultra HD monitor carried a whopping $5,500 tag when the company announced it back in November.

Dell’s S2240T touch monitor boasts 21.5-inch full HD panel, 60-degree tilt

EDIT Dell launches S2240T A 215inch full HD touch monitor

Dell may already have a 23-inch multi-touch display, but if you’re looking for something a little smaller and cheaper, then we have good news for you. The company informed us of its new model named “S2240T,” a 21.5-inch touch monitor with the same 1,920 x 1,080 resolution as its larger sibling. It also stands on a sliding base that can tilt as much as 60 degrees, but unlike the other model this one can’t lay flat. Other features include HDMI, DVI and VGA ports, as well as a relatively efficient power consumption of just 20W. Dell’s already offering the S2240T on its website for $399.99 — quite a drop from the S2340T’s $699.99 price tag. Hit the source link for more information.

Marshall Monitor headphones available now for $200, we go ears-on

Marshall Monitor headphones available now for $200, we go earson

When you’ve got legitimate rock-sound credentials, why wouldn’t you make headphones? Right? To that end, Marshall is back with a new pair — called Monitor — to sit at the top of its existing range. Players in the current market seem to have found the sweet spot between premium pricing and street credibility, and there’s no change here. Priced at $200, the Monitor is pit against other sets that mix style-consciousness with claims of quality audio. It’s not all about looks, though: the Monitor sports a proprietary “F.T.F” (Felt Treble Filter) system that lets you change the sound for a different high-end response.

Under the hood is a 40mm driver, and the same gold, black and leather stylings we saw on the Major model. This time, however, Marshall opted for an over-ear fit, and threw in a few other goodies too. These include the increasingly popular 3.5mm pass-through jack (so friends can plug in and share your music), a collapsible design, a detachable part-coiled cable and in-line remote. The Monitor is available starting today for the aforementioned $200. But, if you want to know a little more, we got our hands on a set — head past the break for our first impressions.

LG Tests Out New IPS UltraWide Monitor In Men’s Room

The world of display technology continues to march forward relentlessly, where in years past we have seen the jumps made from black and white to color, to flat screen TVs before Full High Definition took over the scene, and now there is 3D to contend with. Well, images on the TV are getting more and more lifelike than ever before, thanks to an infusion of advancements made in display technology alongside better recording capabilities of devices, but just how lifelike would images on the new LG IPS 21:9 UltraWide monitor are? LG decided to put it to a special psycho-physical test in the men’s room, as you can see in the video above.

LG is definitely no stranger to IPS displays, as they have introduced their fair share of models in the past, but certainly what they have done this time around is hilarious, and we would not mind going into a men’s room that is so well equipped. In fact, there should be a control group, where an actual model stands behind a glass display that masquerades as LG’s IPS UltraWide monitor just to see what one’s reaction is.

AOC Cinematic 29-inch Display Rocks 21:9 Aspect Ratio on the Cheap

I’m a huge fan of movies and I like watching my favorite flicks on the big screen in my media room and on my computer screen. One thing that always bothers me about watching widescreen movies are the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. There are a few projector screens and other products on the market today that have a special aspect ratio eliminating those black bars.

AOC has just announced a new 29-inch computer monitor that uses the 21:9 super widescreen aspect ratio that will eliminate black bars on your favorite movie content.

The display is called the Q2963PM and it has a native resolution of 2560 x 1080. The LED-backlit screen claims a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000,000:1 (which doesn’t really mean much) and a brightness rating of 250 cd/m2.  It also features dual three-watt speakers.

aoc widescreen 2

The display supports picture-in-picture, and has multiple inputs including DisplayPort, D-sub, HDMI, and DVI. The screen is good for more than watching movies though with the wide aspect ratio bringing the benefits of multiple monitors into a single space-saving device.

aoc widescreen 3

While it’s not inexpensive compared to standard 16:9 aspect ratio monitors, it’s the best priced 21:9 display on the market so far, with a retail price of $499(USD). The AOC Q2963PM display is available over on Amazon now.

AOC UltraWide display offers greater viewing real estate

You know something? You can never have too large a screen where geeks and other technophiles are concerned, just like how the ladies are unable to get enough of shoes and handbags to go along with their wardrobe. After all, having plenty more to look at on a single screen will work wonders for your productivity. Don’t believe me? Try working on a 14” monitor (yes, you still remember those fat and chunky CRTs, don’t you?) and then switching over to a 24” widescreen display – the difference would be just like night and day. Hence, it is no surprise to see that AOC has rolled out their cinematic 29” UltraWide Display that offers dual monitor productivity to a single display.

This particular model number from AOC would be the Q2963PM, which would be a 29-inch 21:9 super wide screen HD monitor which merges IPS LED technology with convenient connectivity, offering a cinematic display experience. What other kinds of goodies does the Q2963PM come with? For starters, it will be equipped with dual 3 Watt enclosed speakers and WFHD 2560×1080 resolution, offering a far more immersive experience for your favorite movies and games than ever before.

Not only that, the presence of multiple inputs such as DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI will allow your spanking new AOC Q2963PM to deliver screen multiplication – in a limited way, of course, but it would still be better than nothing, since it delivers Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture capabilities. In a nutshell, you are able to view a movie through a connected Blu-ray player on one half of the screen, while using the other half of the screen to browse the Internet via your connected notebook. The inclusion of MHL technology will also pave the way for you to mirror your smartphone on the monitor’s 29-inch wide screen.

Surprisingly, something like the AOC Q2963PM will not cost too much, where it carries a $499 price tag.

AOC Q2963PM Widescreen HD Monitor

AOC Q2963PM Widescreen HD MonitorAOC has just announced their new 29” monitor that has been dubbed the Q2963PM, where this particular monitor will come in a 21:9 aspect ratio (that’s super wide according to some folks), sporting a combination of IPS LED technology alongside convenient connectivity in order to deliver a cinematic display experience right in front of you on the work desk. The Q2963PM will come with a pair of 3 Watt enclosed speakers, where its WFHD 2560×1080 resolution ensures that you are able to attain the most immersive experience possible, regardless of whether you are watching movies or playing games.

Connectivity options for the AOC Q2963PM include DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI, where you can further multiply your screen courtesy of Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture capabilities. In a nutshell, if your brain is capable of multitasking better than others, you can watch a movie via a connected Blu-ray player on one half of the screen, while checking out the latest gossip online through your connected notebook on the other half, and that is just a start. Interested folks can pick up the AOC Q2963PM for $499 a pop.

Lenovo ThinkVision LT3053p designed for color-critical jobs

Lenovo has announced its upcoming ThinkVision LT3053p professional monitor. It’s a 30-inch monitor designed for creative professionals tasked with color-critical jobs. The monitor is priced with an expensive $1,599 price-tag and will be released later this month, with an expected ship date being April 18th. It boasts an impressive spec sheet, with a very important feature being that it covers 99% of the Adobe RGB spectrum, and of course 100% of the Standard RGB spectrum.

Lenovo ThinkVision LT3053p designed for color-critical jobs

The Lenovo ThinkVision LT3053p comes equipped with an AH-IPS Panel with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:10. The contrast ratio is 1,000:1 static and 3,000,000:1 dynamic. It offers life-like colors with its 1.07 billion color depth. It has viewing angles of 178 degrees from any direction of the screen. The brightness of the ThinkVision LT3053p can go as high as 300 cd/m2, of course you can adjust it to the brightness you need.

The ThinkVision has an HDMI 1.4, VGA, DVI-D, and a DisplayPort connector to offer you a variety of options to connect the display. It has a 5-slot USB-hub, 2 slots being USB 2.0 and 3 slots being USB 3.0, integrated into it allowing you to connect more peripherals if need be. The display also has a protective hood designed to block sunlight. It has picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture capabilities so you can work without needing a second monitor.

The Lenovo ThinkVision LT3053p is an impressive monitor that should be a great addition to any creative professional’s arsenal, however, its price-tag may be deterring to many. The ThinkVision LT3053p isn’t the only interesting product Lenovo has planned for this year. It is also planning on releasing a 13.3-inch mobile monitor, the Lenovo ThinkVision LT1423p, this year to act as a portable second monitor. Check out our hands-on with the ThinkVision LT1423p here!
