Moto X Successor Might Be Called Moto X + 1

Motorola came up with two highly appreciated smartphones last year, the Moto X and the Moto G. The former came first, being unveiled in August. It was Motorola’s flagship smartphone that held its ground against rivals. The company followed up with Moto G which was primarily aimed at emerging markets. Now there has been a lot of speculation about how the company is going to build on this success, and if the rumor mill is to be believed, the “Moto X + 1″ may carry the baton forward.

There hasn’t been any indication from the company as yet about its 2014 plans. Yes its going to launch new smartphone, but what they will be called and what they’ll have under the hood remains a mystery. Moreover, since Google has sold it to Lenovo, it remains to be seen if that transition has any effect on its plans for the year.

The “Moto X + 1″ bit comes from famed Twitter leaker @evleaks. He tweeted out what appears to a be logo for the Moto X successor, and without offering any additional information, only said that its “coming soon.” So one can’t exactly say when this phone is coming out, perhaps Motorola might aim for launch this summer.

It could pair the Moto X + 1 up with the Moto 360. The smartwatch is already expected to be launched over the summer, a pair would make sense. Samsung has been doing that since last year, when it launched Galaxy Gear alongside the Galaxy Note 3.

Motorola Moto 360 Smartwatch, presented by Jim Wicks, Design Chief at Motorola

Two days ago, Motorola announced the Moto 360, its smartwatch powered by Android Wear. Except for the few pictures and the few Android Wear functions that Google and Motorola described in their official blog posts, we do not know much about the exact specifications. We were invited yesterday to a hangout with Jim Wicks, CVP Consumer Experience design at Motorola and we were hoping to learn a little more.

“TIME WAS THE INSPIRATION”   Unfortunately, except for the concept and the ideas behind the round shape and the Android Wear interface, he did not share the main information we are all waiting for: no pricing, no exact release date, no battery life, no display type, no processor type no resolution were provided.

We learned a few things though: the round interface is standard in Android Wear, the SDK for a choice of a square or a round interface, the Moto 360 will be compatible with Android 4.3+ devices, it will probably only feature wireless charging or a new type of connector-less charging system, the casing is made of stainless steel with a brushed finish and a gloss finish on the edges and you will be able to see the time constantly.

Last but not least, time was the inspiration for the round shape and since 80% of the traditional watches sold in the world are round (according to Jim Wicks), we predict that Android Wear will power watches made by traditional manufacturers in the future. To learn more details about what Jim Wicks had to say about the Moto 360, read the full article.

Moto 360 To Feature “Secret” Charging Method

Moto 360 To Feature Secret Charging MethodIt was just recently that Motorola announced the Moto 360, a smartwatch that would be powered by Google’s Android Wear. Unfortunately not much is known about the Moto 360 for now since Motorola hasn’t exactly shared all of the details regarding the device yet, and one of the questions that many are probably wondering is how will the Moto 360 charge?

After all there does not appear to be any visible USB connection on the watch, but it turns out that Motorola is keeping that a secret as well, as they mentioned during the Moto 360 Hangout-on-Air earlier today. (more…)
