Motorola Mobility indicates wood backing option for Moto X is nigh

Motorola has officially teased the addition of a wood backing option for its Moto X smartphone. The option has long been rumored to debut at some point before year’s end, with the first estimates of Thanksgiving being a bit quick on the trigger. A revised, Q4 release date range for wood backs surfaced around then, […]

Motorola Teases Moto X Wooden Backplate As Coming Soon

Motorola Teases Moto X Wooden Backplate As Coming SoonIf there was ever a good reason to get the Moto X, apart from it’s pretty nifty always-listening feature, it would be its customization which would allow users to choose a wooden backplate for the device. Unfortunately due to whatever reasons, Motorola has delayed the release of the wooden backplates, although recently leaked photos would suggest that they are on the way. Well according to a recent tweet by Motorola (which oddly enough has since been deleted for whatever reason), they too are teasing that the wooden backplate options are on the way, with the image above accompanying the tweet, along with the message, “Put this DIY project on hold. Trust us.”

Still no word on when we will be seeing the release of the wooden backplate, but hopefully we will be able to expect it by the end of the year. Customers are expected to be able to choose from a handful of different wood types, depending on the their preference, especially since different woods might feel different and will also look different due to the grain. If the previous reports are true, those looking to get their hands on the wooden backplate can expect to pay an extra $50 for it, compared to the other customization options which are free.

Moto Maker Will Be Launched In Latin America Next Year

Moto Maker Will Be Launched In Latin America Next Year

Alongside the Moto X smartphone, Motorola also launched its online smartphone customization studio called Moto Maker. Through the studio, customers can put an endless array of personal touches on their device, such as custom engravings and paint jobs. It was initially exclusive to AT&T subscribers before finally being opened up to all major U.S. carriers. At this point in time, Moto Maker is only available for customers in the U.S., however the company does have plans of expanding it beyond the States. Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside has said that Moto Maker is going to be expanded to several countries in Latin America next year.

Latin America is going to be the first international destination for Moto Maker because the Moto X is already being sold there and due to the fact that its sales are quite strong there. However, the full range of customization options will only be offered to customers located in Brazil and Argentina, as the company has some component facilities located in those countries. Customers in other parts of Latin America are likely to have fewer customization options, but hey, something is better than nothing at all. Woodside also hinted at the possibility of Moto Maker being expanded into Europe, though he didn’t offer a timeframe of when that might happen.

Motorola Releases Active Display Update To Fix Lock Screen Lag Bug

Motorola Releases Active Display Update To Fix Lock Screen Lag Bug

Motorola’s Active Display made it to the Google Play Store a couple of months ago. The feature makes it much more easier for users to keep up with notifications on their Motorola smartphones, they don’t have to wake up the screen or push any buttons to see if they have missed any notifications. Information appears on the screen by itself, quietly, so users can easily catch up with what they have missed or simply see what the time is. Today Motorola has released an update for Active Display which fixes the lock screen lag bug that had been irking quite a lot of users.

Users were experiencing lag of a couple of seconds when swiping up or down from Active Display screen, the update simply takes care of that bug. The app isn’t compatible with all Motorola Android smartphones, its exclusive to those that are running on Android 4.4 KitKat and have AMOLED displays. The Moto X, Droid MAxx and Droid Ultra fall under this category. If you’re planning to pick up a new Moto X today as Motorola is going to run its $150 off deal once again, you’ll have an Active Display update waiting when you finally receive the device. Moto X has already been upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat.

There’s nothing like a little bit of downed server time to get you in the mood for the holidays. That’s what Motorola is experiencing this week with the Moto X as they ring up round 2 – or is it 3 – of their Cyber Monday sale adventure, having originally extended this deal because of […]

$150 Off Moto X Deal Goes Live Today, Again

$150 Off Moto X Deal Goes Live Today, Again

Motorola had previously announced that it would offer a deal on Cyber Monday in which it would shave off $150 of the price of the unlocked Moto X smartphone, even the developer editions. When Cyber Monday came, Motorola’s website couldn’t cope up with the surge in traffic which led to the servers crashing down. The company then apologized for the fiasco and said that it would offer the deal again, first on December 4th and again on December 9th. The deal goes lives once again today, and given how it sold out within eight minutes the last time around, you might want to be the first in the virtual line if you have any intention of picking up an unlocked Moto X for a steal.

The deal goes live at 12 p.m. EST, and will be available as long as stock lasts. The way this works is that Motorola is giving out promotional codes through the deal’s website. If you’re able to get your hands on a promo code, you will have one week to order a Moto X, the code is crucial to getting $150 off the price. That’s just about it. Those who want to get Motorola accessories for a 30 percent discount can use the “THANKS” promo code at checkout. As they say, the early bird gets the worm!
