Wired January 2014 Issue Sports Interactive Moto X Ad

In the world of advertising, coming up with something that is extremely compelling could prove to be more and more challenging as the days go by, since every single day that passes will see a brand new idea crop up – meaning there is one less idea less to fish from, assuming that the number of ideas are finite in the first place. Having said that, Wired’s January 2014 issue might be something you would want to pick up at the newsstand, thanks to their partnership with Motorola.

In this edition of their magazine, you will find three LEDs, some plexiglass, a quartet of batteries as well as a bunch of buttons that will form an interactive Moto X ad which is located right smack in the middle of the magazine. The design itself allows readers to “customize” a Moto X’s back, thanks to the bright LEDs which are capable of showing the handset off in 11 colors. For instance, tapping blue would see it light up in blue, red for red, the list goes on. It will require a few seconds of inactivity for the ad to shut itself off automatically in order to maximize the battery life of the four lithium batteries. Around 150,000 copies of Wired will be circulated in New York and Chicago, featuring this interactive advertisement. It sounds like a great collector’s item to me!

Fly Or Die: Motorola Moto G

It always seems like the flagship phones get the most attention, but what about a device that doesn’t even bother trying to claim that title? Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside has been saying for months that one of the company’s priorities was to improve the experience of using a low-cost smartphone, and the end result of drive was the cheapo Moto G.

So how did Motorola do? Well, as long as you set your expectations appropriately before taking the plunge, you’ll find a lot to love here. The lack of LTE is a bummer for you North American types, but the Snapdragon 400 chipset nestled inside keeps things moving along at a respectable pace and the battery will run for days and days on a single charge. Purists may not be too keen on the sorts of oversaturated screens that Motorola seems so fond of but hey, you can’t with ‘em all.

Long time listeners of the Droidcast will know that it’s very rare for me and Darrell to see eye to eye on, well, anything, but we came together just this once to give the Moto G a pair of Flys.

Motorola Smartwatch With Flexible Display A Future Possibility

Motorola Smartwatch With Flexible Display A Future PossibilityThere is nothing quite like exploring the different kinds of patents that companies have filed to see what kind of direction that they could possibly head in the future. Take Motorola for instance – it seems that they have a newly published patent application that point to a conceptual smartwatch device that has a display as well as a shell on the opposite end to flex in tandem with one another. The chassis itself would be pretty much similar to that of a metal watch band, consisting of links, and there will be grips located on each link that will be able to bend the display. On paper, it does sound like a pretty simple idea, something that might even see some of us go, “Man, why didn’t I think about that before?”

The thing is, this particular idea remains pretty much a patent that has been approved, and chances are we are very far from seeing an actual product roll out anytime soon. After all, Motorola would need to explore the world of flexible circuits before the world of bendable wearables are able to hit the mass consumer market. Bendable displays still have some ways to go before they end up as a common piece of technology found in consumer electronics.

Moto X With Bamboo Now Available

Moto X With Bamboo Now AvailableIt looks like the long wait is finally over, and as expected, the Moto X with Bamboo is finally available. Motorola has released this fun experiment, where in the past, they have worked with the likes of DuPont Kevlar as well as aircraft-grade aluminum in their devices, and this time around, the use of bamboo would represent a totally new territory where the smartphone industry is concerned. Not only that, it will also be able to expand the thousands of customization options that are made available via Moto Maker. Considering how every single back will be made out of actual bamboo (by the way, do you know that bamboo is a type of grass?), you can be assured that there will only be one of its kind in the world, making it a smartphone that is as unique as you, the owner.

For those who want their Moto X to arrive with a bamboo back will be able to take advantage of a January delivery. There will be limited quantities at the beginning, and since you would be the one designing it, it will arrive with a slew of customization features that are available via Moto Maker. You will be able to select from the accent to front colors, memory, even throw in a custom signature on your bamboo back, before picking a carrier of choice – Verizon, AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile. Moto G shipping slips again

The Motorola Moto G was originally slated for release inside January of 2014 for the United States, but upon hearing of the smartphone’s availability here in December of 2013, potential users were eager to put their hands on a unit. What’s happened is a bit of a delay – and more than one delay since […]

    Motorola DROIDs Undergo Soak Test

Motorola DROIDs Undergo Soak TestAh, soak tests, don’t you just love being invited to some of those? Motorola has started to test upcoming software updates by carrying out a soak test. The installation process of the software is limited to just a tiny number of units, and even then, it is by invitation only. This is not due to a discriminatory process, but rather, Motorola most probably wants to limit the number of handsets which might actually end up bricked if things go awry. After all, if there happens to be issues with this particular update for DROID handsets, only a small number would “suffer”, so to speak. If you would like to have your smartphone take part in the test, you would have to be a member of the Motorola Feedback Network, and will have to make sure that everything concerning the test would remain confidential.

The models from Motorola that will undergo this soak test would be the Motorola DROID Ultra, Motorola DROID MAXX and the Motorola DROID Mini. We are not sure just yet as to when the test will be over, but Motorola could “soak” the trio with Android 4.4 KitKat, although there is also every chance that it could be something else entirely.

Motorola has officially teased the addition of a wood backing option for its Moto X smartphone.
