A couple of weeks ago, the tech world was in a buzz when Google announced that they would be selling off Motorola Mobility to Lenovo. This was after Google had bought the company in 2011 and did not exactly do much with it, aside from the release of new Motorola handsets in the form of the Moto X and the Moto G. Many are probably wondering why Google sold off Motorola Mobility at an apparent loss, although an interesting article on Forbes might have you believing that it was a strategic purchase used to get their Android OEMs, particularly Samsung, in order. U.S. Cellular Offers Moto G For $99
Posted in: Today's ChiliMotorola’s Moto G smartphone was very well received when it was launched late last year, primarily because of the fact that its a bonafide mid-range Android smartphone that’s very competitively priced off contract. Motorola officially sells it for $179, but several carriers are selling it for even less, making it the perfect choice for customers who don’t want to spend too much on a smartphone and also want to avoid a conventional service contract, but do want a proper Android experience. U.S. Cellular adds itself to that list, the prepaid carrier is now offering the Moto G for $99 off contract.

The Moto G is Motorola’s latest handset, although in this case it is not one of the company’s highest end products. In fact one might consider the device to hover somewhere between low to mid-ranged. That being said it does come with an affordable price tag, making it a pretty value for money buy for those who want an almost-stock version of Android that gets the job done. Now the downside to the Moto G is that it was launched with an older version of Android, Jelly Bean, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but having the latest version is a good thing, right? Well the good news is that for Verizon owners of the Moto G, there have been reports that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is being pushed out to you as we speak.
The update will bring your version of the Moto G up to 173.44.20.en.US. For those who have yet to receive the notification informing them that an update is ready to be download, you can attempt to manually pull the update by going to your phone’s Settings, About Phone, System Updates, to see if the update can be downloaded. If it is not there, fret not because updates are typically rolled out in phases and we’re sure it will be your turn eventually.
