It’s been less than a week since Spotify showed the world its new Browse feature, and now Rdio wants in on that action. The vowel-skipping music streaming service is revamping its Stations offering, starting with a player redesign, which includes voting on songs and station fine tuning and pivoting. Users can also create 10 types of different stations, starting with an artist, song or one of the service’s 400 or so sub-genre selections. You FM, meanwhile, utilizes Facebook likes, Twitter follows, listening history and track votes to curate a customized listening experience. You can also build stations based on your friends’ listening habit. The above offerings are available now on iOS, Android and in the browser.

Dan Deacon’s mobile ambitions
Posted in: Today's ChiliDan Deacon’s on the phone, slightly frantic, as we wander the grounds of the Los Angeles Natural History Museum with his manager, in search of a place to shoot. We only get snippets of the conversation as he paces around, though he’s doling out what sounds like tech support when we finally settle on a spot next to a big, grandiose fountain in the middle of a large rose garden. It would be easy to forget that you were in Los Angeles, were it not in the shadow of the nearby USC football stadium. He finishes his conversation and explains, apologetically, that there was some last-minute emergency with his app, which he had recently begun licensing out.
Some big-name artist having some last-minute issues probablems, so, naturally, it was necessary to get the musician himself on the phone, with the sun rapidly setting over the museum’s dome. As we ready the shot, Deacon leans against a park bench, hands in the pockets of a green hoodie worn over a brighter green T-shirt, bearing a smiling woman’s headshot. He wears wire-rim glasses and a wild beard on his rosy face. “My name’s Dan Deacon,” he says, by way of introduction, as we start the interview, “and I guess I write music and perform it.” He’s a successful touring musician with a devoted fan base, sure, but Dan Deacon is no rock star.

Over the next week, Spotify will roll out a few new features to its web and mobile interfaces that’ll make getting to the music you want faster. The coolest of the bunch is that Spotify it will be threading its music sharing features so that it’ll look more like a long conversation on other platforms.
What Is the Best Song To Type To?
Posted in: Today's ChiliDifferent folks like different music for different kinds of work. Some don’t like background tunes at all. But when it comes to typing—real non-stop "I’ll clean it up later" typing—you can get into a serious groove, and the right soundtrack
