[MWC 2014] Intel has just announced their next generation processors that will see action in Android-powered devices – including smartphones and tablets. This new generation of processors will undergo the 22nm process, resulting in 64-bit chips that are capable of touching clock speeds of up to 2.13 GHz. Known as the Intel Atom Z3460 and Atom Z3480 “Merrifield” processors, they are touted to deliver superior performance as well as potentially additional battery life compared to its predecessor, which has been called by the “Clover Trail+” moniker in the past.

[MWC 2014] Is it me, or is it a day that is full of sequels when it comes to smartphones by ZTE, a company which hails from China? The ZTE Grand Memo II LTE has just been announced, where it will be a follow up to the ZTE Grand Memo that was first introduced to the world at Mobile World Congress – last year, that is. This latest device has been updated accordingly to suit the times, where it will feature a far more generous 6” display on the outside compared to the 5.7” screen in its predecessor, a 13MP shooter right at the back alongside a 5MP camera in front that will be able to guarantee you great looking selfies, not to mention a 3,200mAh battery which runs the entire shebang.

Last week we reported on the possibility that Garmin might unveil a new navigation application for the Sony Smartwatch 2 at Mobile World Congress 2014, and that rumor has turned out to be true. Garmin has actually launched a new app for Sony Xperia smartphones which is aided by an extension for the Sony SmartWatch 2. Called Garmin Xperia Edition, the app brings its signature navigation features as well as a variety of premium features such as traffic updates, speed warnings, land guidance, onboard maps and more.

It was rumored that the app on Sony SmartWatch 2 will only be able to display walking directions. That is indeed the case, the extension displays walking directions, providing users with navigation information right on their wrist without needing them to pull out their phones. It will also display the user’s current position as well as their route, to take a closer look at the map or the route, users can simply button-press on the watch to zoom in. The Garmin Xperia Edition app and its extension for the smartwatch are expected to be available next month, the app will be offered for free for the first 30 days with access to all premium features. After the trial period ends, users will retain access to map viewer and pedestrian navigation, though they will have to purchase a $2.95 monthly subscription for all premium features.

[MWC 2014] The folks over at ZTE (a company that has started to make waves in the global smartphone scene) from China have just introduced yet another creation of theirs, which is the ZTE Open C. What makes the ZTE Open C so special? It has been described to be one of the first devices that will run on the most recent version of Firefox OS, where it has been specially designed to offer users a superior user experience, in addition to a higher cost-performance ratio. In fact, the ZTE Open C will first roll out in Venezuela and Uruguay on the Telefónica network sometime in the second quarter of this year because of its long term partnership with the mobile service provider.
