NEC has once again expanded its line of Full HD monitors by announcing the MultiSync E224Wi-BK. Adopting an AH-IPS panel, this new 21.5-inch LED-backlight monitor provides 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness, 6ms response time and 178/178 degree viewing angles, and features D-Sub, DVI-D and DisplayPort connectors. NEC is bringing you their newest Android 4.1 tablet, the LaVie Tab E TE307/N1W. Specs-wise, the tablet packs a 7.0-inch 1024 x 600 5-point multi-touch display, a 1.2GHz MediaTek MT8317 dual-core processor, a 1GB RAM, a 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 0.3MP front-facing camera, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, built-in stereo speakers and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. [CEATEC 2013] NEC claims that their face recognition technology on display at the CEATEC 2013 showfloor happens to be the one with the highest precision rate in the world, although we have also seen Omron’s offering that does seem to work pretty well, guessing your age at the same time (the ladies might not like that so much, actually). Well, NEC’s face recognition technology is known as the NeoFace, where it is touted to be precise enough to see action across a wide range of applications, from office level going all the way to national level security controls.
That secure, huh? NEC’s booth also did demonstrate how their face recognition technology comes in handy where security is concerned, making use of what they call a “Bio Key” which will open up a door once it detects the actual face. I’m taking a guess that the Z-axis will be included here so that no one will be able to fool the system with a photo of someone else. This would also come in handy as a mobile device security measure, where smartphones and tablets will now unlock only for the rightful owner. Again, it has not been tested to the point where there is a ready and willing market who want to implement it in new hardware, so time will tell if the NeoFace technology will remain in the domain of corporations and enterprises as well as governments, instead of being used across the mass market.

Designed for enterprise users, this 19-inch AH-IPS LED-backlight monitor provides 1280 x 1024 native resolution and 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (1000:1 typical), and comes with a fully adjustable stand with 110mm height-adjust, tilt, swivel and pivot, two built-in 1W speakers and advanced connectivity with DisplayPort, DVI-D and VGA. [CEATEC 2013] How many of you out there want to be forensic scientists after watching TV series such as CSI (Crime Scene Investigation)? Isn’t it just wonderful that an insanely difficult case can be cracked in an hour on TV with commercials thrown into the mix, while in the real world, there are plenty of unsolved cases, or at least cases where the leads have turned so cold? Perhaps if the local law enforcement agency had a portable DNA analyzer from NEC, things might have turned out differently. Today, we took a closer look at one of NEC’s more interesting presentations at the CEATEC 2013 showfloor – an NEC portable DNA analyzer.
The entire shebang looks something like an oversized multi-function scanner/printer, although definitely not as large as the average photocopier at the office. This amazing miniaturization is made possible thanks to NEC’s “lab on a chip” technology, where it helped shrink the PCR as well as electrophoresis components in a commercial DNA analyzer.

Adopting a 10-bit RGB color IPS panel, this new 29.8-inch GB-R LED-backlight monitor provides 2560 x 1600 native resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 340 cd/m2 brightness, 7ms (GTG) response time and 178/178 degree viewing angles, and features DVI-D, HDMI, mini DisplayPort and DisplayPort connectors. Coming in black and white color options, the MultiSync LCD-PA302W will start shipping from October 25th for unannounced price yet. [NEC]
Here comes another DLP projector from NEC, the V311W. Designed for classrooms, meeting and conference rooms, this 3D-ready projector provides 1280 x 800 WXGA resolution, 3100 ANSI lumens brightness, 3000:1 contrast ratio and up to 5,000 hours of lamp life (Eco Mode). It also comes with a built-in 7W mono speaker and has a number of connectivity ports including 2x D-Sub, HDMI, Composite, S-Video, 2x Stereo Mini Jack and RCA. The V311W sells for $699. [NEC]
