Netflix is no stranger to making original TV anymore, but it seems it has bigger plans than that: it’s floating the idea that it’ll foot the bill for a “big” movie, which would appear in theaters and on Netflix at the same time.
Netflix has been basking in success lately, with its third quarter numbers published last week showing record subscriber numbers, and its original TV shows proving more than able to hold their own against network offerings. Now the company has talked about its latest idea, namely providing subscribers access to a “big” movie the same day […]
Your favorite fictional serial killer is coming to a Netflix compatible device near you this Halloween. It was announced today that Netflix and CBS Corporation have signed a content licensing agreement which will bring all eight seasons of the hit TV show Dexter to Netflix subscribers in the U.S. The first four seasons of this show will be available to watch instantly this Halloween, that’s October 31st. The remaining four seasons will be available come January 1st, 2014. Dexter wrapped up its eighth and final season earlier this year, after a record breaking run on the network.
Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix, says that they’re “thrilled” to have Dexter on board, that too so quickly after it has completed its run. Dexter is actually one of SHOWTIME’s highest rated TV shows, one that has a dedicated fan following not only in the U.S., but around the globe. This announcement is definitely going to please Dexter fans who’d like to binge watch the series once again, through Netflix. Dexter is going to be a welcome addition to Netflix’s lineup this holiday season, which includes hit original series such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and the revived Ron Howard series, Arrested Development.

The entire Internet would very much appreciate it if HBO offered an HBO Go subscription without the need to have cable. We want to pay for HBO Go like we pay for Netflix. But that hasn’t happened… yet. But people are trying! Even cable companies.
Netflix certainly seems to be growing from strength to strength, as the company’s results for the third quarter have been announced (PDF Link), and in one of the more notable numbers that investors would like to look at would be the total number of US subscribers – which will include trial accounts, by the way. The magical number that has made many investors happy this time around would be 29.93 million, which happens to outstrip HBO’s last count of 28.7 million. This is definitely an upward trend, especially when you take into consideration how last year at the same time, Netflix reported 25.1 million US customers, which included trial subscribers.
Having already overtaken HBO’s US customer base in April this year, it has also experienced growth internationally, touching 9.19 million subscribers with the hope of adding another three million customers more for the next quarter. There is the new original series Orange is the New Black which has been touted to be a hit, although viewing statistics remain a secret with Netflix, but they have said that the show will end the year “as our most watched original series ever.” How far do you think a company like Netflix will eventually grow to? The push in modern day technology has certainly helped it become a more viable entertainment choice.
