Netflix Introduces UI Tweaks For Android App

Netflix Introduces UI Tweaks For Android AppThe folks over at Netflix has introduced a couple of announcements (which are for the better, obviously), where the first of them would apply mainly to those who run on Android-powered devices. Netflix has already updated their app for Android, bringing along with it a revamped user interface that claims to deliver snappier covers, smoother scrolling as well as a brand new action and navigation bars. Chromecast users might want to sit up and take notice, as the Netflix app has also been changed somewhat in order to have it play nicer with the Chromecast TV dongle. Some of the changes would include improved lock screen playback controls, too. Of course, since you cannot please everyone all the time, the revamped app still does not come with support for the new profiles in addition to broader HD streaming support.

This particular rollout would not be made available across the board instantly, but there is already an APK file hanging around somewhere on the Internet if patience is not your strongest virtue. Apart from that, the other announcement involves the testing of enhanced content or additional features which will be centered around its original shows, and if that pans out well, Netflix might just additional content to their shows ala DVD.

Vodafone UK And Nokia Offer Netflix For Lumia 1020 Customers

Vodafone UK And Nokia Offer Netflix For Lumia 1020 CustomersIf you’re living in the UK and you were thinking of picking up a Nokia Lumia device, perhaps the Nokia Lumia 1020 might be a phone worth considering. Granted the device is considered one of Nokia’s high-end devices and will come with a more expensive price tag, the good news is that if you were to get it via Vodafone UK, you will be getting yourself a one year subscription to Netflix. As it stands this offer appears to be valid only for the Lumia 1020, so for those looking for a more affordable device, we guess you’d be out of luck.

This move comes as Netflix is hoping to gain more footing over in Europe, especially when they are faced with local equivalents such as LoveFilm, so together with this offering, would-be Lumia 1020 customers in the UK will be able to enjoy Netflix’s services for a year, which hopefully will translate into a longer subscription after that, not to mention this deal will probably make Nokia’s devices a tad more attractive to those who love watching videos while on the go. So, any of our readers in the UK planning on picking up a Lumia 1020 after hearing about this deal?

TiVo to help Netflix get into Cable TV set-top boxes

Netflix is working hard to get its subscription streaming service integrated into set-top boxes for cable and satellite providers around the world. Netflix Negotiating to Offer Its Streaming Service on Cable Boxes in the US

Like many people out there, I’m a big fan of the video streaming service Netflix. It’s a great place to find something to watch when nothing is on TV and I can use it to catch up on TV series that I might’ve missed seasons of in the past. Back in September, word surfaced that Virgin Media in the UK had agreed to offer Netflix on its set top boxes to subscribers. At the time, I wished Netflix would do the same thing in the US and apparently they’re in negotiations right now to do just that.

Word surfaced that Netflix is currently in talks to make its streaming service available on US cable providers’ set top boxes. Making Netflix available on those boxes would mean that users wouldn’t need to switch inputs or launch an application on different device to watch Netflix streaming video.

Netflix has reportedly been in talks with several pay-TV providers in the US. Reports indicate that these talks are in the early stages but two of the providers said to be in talks with Netflix are Comcast and Suddenlink Communications. One thing delaying the negotiations according to some reports is the fact that Netflix is insisting the cable providers use its technology designed to improve the delivery of streaming video. Netflix believes this to be a critical component of service to allow viewers to get the best quality possible.

While one might think that cable and satellite providers would see Netflix as a major competitor, offering the service through their delivery channels could increase the likelihood that customers will stick around instead of just going for a raw bandwidth provider.

Netflix Negotiates With US Cable TV Providers

Netflix Negotiates With US Cable TV ProvidersWord on the street has it that Netflix is currently in negotiating with US cable providers in order to deliver its online streaming video service in the form of an app via the users’ set-top boxes, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Should this particular deal go through, it would mean that Netflix has scored a major victory, which does show that it has been sensitive to the ever changing user habits when it comes to viewing trends.

This particular report does seem to jive worldwide, since a month or so back, a somewhat similar deal was also announced over in the UK with cable operator Virgin Media. This particular agreement would enable some of Virgin Media’s 3.8 million customers to perform a search for Netflix shows over on the same on-screen guide that was used to look up cable TV programs. Netflix plays it smart, having positioned themselves as a far more affordable option compared to cable TV for viewers who want the convenience of on-demand television, and it also offered a way for cable providers prevent losing additional like-minded customers to Netflix. A win-win situation, one might say.

If you reside in a country where Netflix has a presence, just how much money do you allocate each month to take advantage of what they have to offer?

Netflix Is Trying To Make Partnership Deals With Cable Providers

According to The Wall Street Journal, Netflix is trying to initiate negotiations with cable companies like Comcast and Suddenlink Communications to integrate a streaming app in their set-top cable boxes.
