LG’s new Ultra HD TVs will support Ultra HD 4K from Netflix

lg-netflixLG intends to bring something new to the masses this year with their 2014 4K TV range to offer Ultra HD 4K support from Netflix, and this announcement came about at the recently concluded CES 2014. Both LG and Netflix already have had a storied history when it comes to first-to-market introductions, where among them include the first network Blu-ray player that will deliver Netflix streaming all the way back in 2008, resulting in a new generation of Internet-connected consumer electronics devices.

According to Reed Hastings, president and CEO of Netflix, “As the world’s leading Internet TV network, Netflix will be among the first to deliver Ultra HD to consumers. Streaming will be the primary way consumers receive 4K content and we are excited to be working with LG to make this a reality later this year.”

LG’s 2014 ULTRA HD TVs have been specially designed in a way to deliver the latest standards for connectivity, content protection as well as program encoding, which means that they are specially equipped to handle 4K streaming. The main key to ensure that this capability is good from the get go would be to throw in a built-in 4K HEVC 60p decoder, allowing the LG TVs to decode broadcast signals in both H.264 and HEVC H.265 formats, regardless of whether in 30p or 60p.

Apart from that, each TV will also come with LG’s new webOS Smart TV platform, where it will include a refreshingly intuitive user experience that is meant to make Smart TV – well, smart, and for one to enjoy a modern TV experience. Users are able to move back and forth between services in a more intelligent manner that enables smoother, faster transitions between screens. In addition, the webOS’s Live Menu will also deliver a range of information, features and content including TV show recommendations, a search bar and previously viewed programs.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings’ Salary To Get 50% Bump To $3M In 2014

netflix-reed-hastings

Remember Qwikster? Wall Street doesn’t.

The AP is reporting this morning that the Netflix CEO will get a healthy pay raise in 2014. According to a regulatory filing, Reed Hastings’ annual salary will jump to $3 million, up from the $2 million he earned this year. His annual stock option allowance also improves to $3 million from the current level of $1 million.

It’s hard to argue against the pay increase. Netflix had a great 2013. The stock price is up 296% on the year. It’s trading around an all time high of $365. The stock was the top performer in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 this year.

The company isn’t raking in the profits, though. In its most recent quarterly report, Netflix only made $32 million. But Wall Street doesn’t seem to mind and so the company should stay the course raking in the subscribers and producing award-winning original content. Netflix just needs to remember to listen to their subscribers.

Netflix Testing New Subscription Service At $6.99 A Month

Netflix Testing New Subscription Service At $6.99 A MonthAt the moment Netflix’s basic subscription is set at $7.99 that allows you to watch programs from its service on two screens, either in high definition or standard definition. $7.99 is admittedly not much to pay but at the same time we suppose for some individuals or families, it is considered to be a luxury. Well the good news is that Netflix is looking to offer even cheaper subscription fees at $6.99, a good $1 cheaper than its current offering but the only difference is that instead of allowing high definition viewing, the new offering will only allow viewers to enjoy their shows in standard definition.

For those who don’t own high definition televisions or really can’t be fussed about those sorts of things, we suppose saving a dollar ain’t too bad. As it stands, Netflix stated that this new service is currently in testing and will only be offered to select customers for now before the company plans on making it available to a wider audience. According to The Verge, they claim that this subscription plan can be found after signing up for one month of free streaming, after which the option will be made available to you. What do you guys think of this newer and cheaper service from Netflix? Is the price difference between $7.99 and $6.99 going to help make customers hop on board the Netflix bandwagon if they haven’t joined already?
