Sony NEX-5T Will Be Similar To The NEX-5R With Additional Features [Rumor]

Sony NEX 5T Will Be Similar To The NEX 5R With Additional Features [Rumor]The other day it was rumored that Sony could be announcing a new NEX camera in the form of the NEX-5T. Details of the camera remain unknown, but given that it is part of the NEX-5 lineup of devices, we did not expect it to be a very high-end device, unlike the NEX-7. Well according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, they have learnt that the Sony NEX-5T will actually be somewhat similar to the NEX-5R, albeit with some minor upgrades so we’re not sure if it can truly be called a “successor”.

Essentially the NEX-5T will sport the same hardware, but will come with new features such as NFC (we wonder if it will play nice with Sony Xperia phones with NFC), FN-button control that can also be found on SLT cameras, a new Menu interface amongst other things. This hardly sounds like the most exciting thing, but then again if you found the NEX-5R to be a good camera, then we can only imagine the NEX-5T should be a worthy upgrade. In any case the NEX-5T is rumored for a 13/14th September announcement, so until then take it with a grain of salt.

Sony's Light Shaft, Motion Shot apps now available for NEX5R and NEX6 cams

One could easily argue that apps are a dime a dozen nowadays, but for those with a WiFi-ready, mirrorless Sony shooter, the in-cam software selection is still somewhat limited. As of a few hours ago, though, NEX-5R and NEX-6 owners now have two more options to choose from, thanks to Sony’s new Light Shaft and Motion Shot applications. For starters, Light Shaft, as the company describes it, brings “a splash of light” to any picture using numerous differently shaped effects, such as Beam, Flare, Ray and Star. Motion Shot, on the other hand, takes multiple, continuous shots that are then superimposed to add a little flavor to action snaps, allowing users to easily pick the first and last images of every sequence. Available now via the PlayMemories shop, both apps are priced at $4.99 each — which, to some, might feel like too steep a price to pay for a little unorthodox editing. We’ll leave that decision up to you, though.

Sony NEX-5R Review: A Great Camera with a Few Missing Pieces

Over the last year, Sony’s NEX cameras have been our favorite of the compact, mirrorless lot. They just handle so well. And on a small camera with big features and DSLR, the way you hold, adjust, and operate it makes a huge difference. More »

DNP Sony NEX5R review focusing and performance improvements make this cam a winner

By some accounts, Sony botched the NEX-F3. Positioned as the successor to the fantastic C3, it replaced that camera’s slim profile with a bulkier build, but sacrificed basic display tilt functionality in favor of a front-facing model. Image quality was fine, but focusing speeds fell short. Fortunately, the company has redeemed itself with the $750 NEX-5R. The mirrorless camera you’ll read about today represents everything a successful update should: performance has been improved all around, the touchscreen tilts in every which way and the design has changed only for the better.

It’s also the first Sony mirrorless cam to feature WiFi, along with the company’s new PlayMemories Camera Apps. Wireless connectivity is undoubtedly becoming a popular addition in higher-end models, but that doesn’t mean it’s a feature users are demanding. With Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Camera, connectivity — 4G in particular — makes perfect sense, but how does that web experience transfer to a tiny 3-inch touchscreen? And does it detract from usability overall? Join us past the break for a closer look at this very capable 16.1-megapixel interchangeable lens camera.

Sony NEX-5R mirrorless camera officially revealed

It looks like the earlier leaked specifications of Sony’s NEX-5R turned out to be true after all! The camera was officially unveiled at IFA 2012 and if you’re in the market for a new mirrorless camera, perhaps the NEX-5R might be worth taking a look at. Sporting a 16MP APS-C image sensor, the NEX-5R will also offer 1080p Full HD video capture at 60fps, and a touch screen display that will make navigating the menus a little easier.

Those are the specs that the NEX-5R shares with its predecessor, the NEX-5N, but what helps to set it apart from the NEX-5N would be its WiFi capabilities, a new “Fast Hybrid” autofocus system with 99-points that uses both contrast and phase detection to quickly lock onto the target. It will also sport a new programmable dial and a multi-function button. It even comes with downloadable apps that basically adds new features, such as filters and effects, to the camera. More info on the Sony NEX-5R can be found in the video above, or on Sony’s website where you will be able to pre-order it for yourself.

    Sony NEX-5R specifications leaked

Sony Alpha Rumors has managed to get hold of what they claim to be the official specifications of the upcoming Sony NEX-5R shooter, but as with any other rumor out there, it would always be prudent to read it with a pinch of salt, although you are free to add in more salt than usual if the rumor sounds extremely outlandish. It seems that this new mirrorless interchangeable lens camera will come with a 16.1-megapixel APS-C sensor, accompanied by low-light sensitivity of up to 25,600 in addition to a similar 3″ display that can be tilted which is found on the Sony NEX-F3. Apart from that, do expect to check out its 99-point phase-detection and 25 contrast autofocus points, in addition to its ability to record your favorite memories in 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60p.

As for battery life, Sony Alpha Rumors laid claim to the ability of the Sony NEX-5R to shoot 400 pictures on a single charge of a full battery. I guess it is only a matter of patience and time as Sony should announce all of its current deck of cards at their press conference tomorrow. Sony does not seem to be too capable of keeping industry secrets of their own, are they?

Sony NEX 5R specs reportedly leaked ahead of tomorrow's launch

Sony Alpha Rumors is claiming to have a big pile of specs for what’s presumed to be the NEX-5R, so with a fistful of sodium chloride at the ready, here goes. The site believes the new mirrorless ILC will pack a 16.1-megapixel APS-C sensor, low-light sensitivity up to 25,600 and the same tiltable three-inch screen we saw in the NEX-F3. It’s also saying that we can expect to see 99-point phase-detection and 25 contrast autofocus points, with 1920 x 1080 HD video recording at 60p and a battery that’ll take 400 pictures on a single charge. If those facts have gotten your purchasing-fingers twitchy, we’ll be at Sony’s press conference tomorrow to find out all the gory details.
