Nexus 7 2 full specs and benchmarks surface with codename “Razor”

This evening, the new Nexus 7 was spotted in a couple shots posted by a Reddit user, complete with packaging and a timestamp. A few short hours later, the folks over at Android Police have produced a full roster of specifications and benchmarks for the 7-inch slate, giving the most detailed look at the upcoming Nexus 7 yet.

1

The Nexus 7 is codenamed Razor, and according to the benchmarks features a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 display, as various leaks have suggested. With the bar on the screen, the actual resolution works out to 1200 x 1824 pixels. Under the hood, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. Andreno 320 is pegged for the GPU.

Also as leaks have suggested, the slate runs Android 4.3, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out what exactly the changes that come with that entail. As far as the hardware goes, the new Nexus 7 is pretty much on par with the Nexus 4, although the Quadrant benchmarks for the slate show it scoring a bit higher at around 5500 rather than 4200.

The Quadrant benchmarking tool is akin to the more commonly known AnTuTu, and looks at 3D graphics, I/O, and CPU. In the screenshot, we see a comparison between this device and some other handsets, with it scoring above the HTC One X, Motorola ATRIX 4G, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Nexus, Optimus 2X, and HTC Desire HD.

A 3DMark graphics benchmark was also run, with Android Police stating they ran it in “extreme” mode with a 1080p action sequence. During the test, the new Nexus 7 scored 7,188, with it staying around the 30fps mark. This is in comparison to the Nexus 4, which scored around 6300, and the previous Nexus 7, which scored 1877 on the Ice Store Extreme test.

Nexus 7 2 appears in leaked photos alongside packaging

The new Nexus 7 appeared earlier this week in press photos, and today we’re getting another look at the device, this time in a couple of shots that include its packaging. The leak comes from a Reddit user who claimed to have just received the device, promising more images to follow shortly, though none have been provided yet.

The images were posted by Reddit user xQckx, along with a timestamp in the images. One show the box the Nexus 7 2 came in, and the second shows the tablet resting on the opened packaging, with Google’s logo visible in the bottom and some plastic scattered about. Unfortunately, there’s not much to tell about the device from the leak.

The user hasn’t yet responded to any questions about where he or she got the device, and has deleted at least one of his responses in the comment thread, so don’t get your hopes too high about more images. The tablet in the image does match the leaks we’ve seen in recent times, however, including the press shots that surfaced yesterday.

The 7-inch slate is said to have a 1920 x 1200 resolution, with large bezels on the top and bottom and slightly smaller ones on the sides. The rear camera is said to be a 5-megapixel offering, with the front-facing camera being 1.2-megapixels. Under the hood, there’s said to be a quad-core processor, and per the images, it looks like a pair of speakers on the back.

The first round of the device is said to be a 16GB offering, while a 32GB and possibly 64GB variety being available later on. It looks like there will be a microSD card for expansion, but that is yet to be seen. The 16GB version is expected to be priced at $229, with different prices coming in depending on various factors.

This New Leaked Nexus 7 Totally Looks Like the Other Leaked Nexus 7

Let’s face it. The new Nexus 7 is no longer a surprise. We’ve already seen it. We’ve already seen press shots for it. Hell, we pretty much know all the details. And now here it is in its full packaging, which means someone was able to get a real version of it early. Which means the Nexus 7 is pretty much ready to go.

Nexus 7 2 detailed as press photos leak in full

A full set of Nexus 7 2 – aka the ASUS-made reboot of the popular Android tablet – press images have leaked this morning with front, back, and side views galore. This machine is set to appear with a quad-core processor under the hood of a 7-inch display with an upgraded 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. You’ll find this machine resembling the original Nexus 7 highly.

This device appears to be working with stereo speakers mounted on its back, massive bezels to two sides of display up front, two relatively thin bezels to the other two sides, and an ever-so-slightly upgraded user interface. This points toward an incremental update to Google’s mobile operating system Android, this expected to happen on the 24th of July at a special Google event.

This device is said to be working with a 16GB variant for starters, with 32GB and a possible 64GB iteration well down the line. This refers to internal storage space, while a rather noticable back kick-out slot along the top of this tablet indicates we’ll either have storage expansion with a microSD card slot or will have 3G/4G LTE connectivity with a microSIM card slot right off the bat.

The smallest version is expected to ring in at $229 USD initially, while you’ll find this machine to be working with several pricing structures depending on its carrier – if any carriers step up – later this year. With a landscape orientation indication seen due to the way the “nexus” logo sits at the back of this device, we’re expecting a lot more than a new set of photography abilities – there’s a camera too, mind you!

Nexus 7 2 Best Buy ad affirms full HD display

We might have already heard quite a few ramblings of the next-generation Nexus 7, but nothing is quite as solid as a leaked retail store circular ad. A leaked Best Buy ad shows off the next-generation Nexus 7, revealing not only its $229 price tag, but also the 1920×1200 full HD display gracing the front of the tablet.

The ad also notes that the $229 price tag will get you 16GB of storage, meaning that the 32GB version will cost just a little bit more, possibly in the $249 or $279 range. Sadly, Best Buy is always pretty vague about advertising products in their weekly ads, so we don’t get treated with any more details than those little tidbits.

However, the Best Buy circular mentions that the tablet will be “available Tuesday.” Seeing as how Google is holding an event on Wednesday this week, the ad could be referring to July 30 as the official launch date of the refreshed Google slate. However, the distribution date for the leaked circular isn’t known, so whatever date “Tuesday” is, is still unknown, but it’s said the circular will begin running on July 28, so we have no reason to not think that the new Nexus 7 will be arriving on July 30.

The refreshed Nexus 7 is also said to be getting an update to Android 4.3, and will come with dual cameras, as well as wireless charging, which we’ve already seen on Google’s latest Nexus 4 handset. The tablet is also said to be sporting a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM paired up. Exact specs aren’t known, obviously, but it seems this new Nexus 7 refresh will be a big one, while keeping the same 7-inch screen and mostly the same body style.
