Just a month after announcing the pricey V3 interchangeable-lens camera
Nikon 1 V3 Announced
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe Nikon 1 V3 has just been announced, where this is the most recent addition to the V series of Nikon 1 advanced cameras that boast of interchangeable lenses, allowing avid shutterbugs to be able to work on new forms of imaging expression. It is a sequel to the Nikon 1 V2 that was released in October 2012. Not only that, Nikon has also rolled out the brand new 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM, which is a normal zoom lens that is compatible with the CX format, where it will cover the 10-30mm range of focal lengths. The 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM also holds the current record of being the world’s lightest interchangeable lens that is equipped with a power-drive zoom function, apart from being the world’s first interchangeable lens that is equipped with power-drive zoom to make use of an electrically controlled lens cover.

Nikon’s new AW1 is the first waterproof interchangeable-lens camera we’re aware of, and we have to admit that even if it seems a tad niche, it’s refreshing to see Nikon dive into something new. This camera will definitely be a lot of fun, but more importantly, it’s a smart design direction for the company’s line of mirrorless shooters.
Nikon – The 80 millionth NIKKOR lens has been manufactured, coinciding with the NIKKOR’s brand’s 80th anniversary
Posted in: Today's ChiliNikon Corporation has announced that the cumulative number of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses manufactured by the company has reached 80 million.
Nikon (then Nippon Kogaku), launched its single-lens reflex camera “Nikon F” in 1959, and at the same time released the “Nikon F” “NIKKOR-S Auto 5cm f / 2″, the first “NIKKOR” lens. Since the launch of this lens, the line-up has been expanded while leading the optics market in Japan and around the world.
This includes the start, in October 2011, of the “Nikon 1″ which increased the pace of sales on NIKKOR lenses. The company reached the milestone of 75 million lenses in early November 2012, and now has already hit the 80 million mark.
Many different lenses have been introduced as part of the company’s new lineups. For example, since the beginning of 2013, as an interchangeable lens for Nikon single-lens reflex cameras, 3 lenses were released including FX format compliant 5x telephoto zoom lens “AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR”.
Regarding the “1 NIKKOR” lens for interchangeable lens advanced camera “Nikon 1″, after 2013, 3 lenses were released including 10X zoom lens “1 NIKKOR VR 10-100mm f/4-5.6″.
Nikon is also celebrating the 80th anniversary of the NIKKOR brand which is considered the benchmark by many in the optics and camera industries.
The video below is really interesting and was made to commemorate the brand’s 80th anniversary.
Nikon – New lens “1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2″ will be added to the lens lineup for replaceable-lens camera, “Nikon 1″
Posted in: Today's ChiliNikon Imaging Japan added new lens “1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2″ to the Nikon lens lineup for the lens-replaceable “Nikon 1″ camera in June.
Focal length is 32mm. Since it’s an aperture single focus lens that has the lightest F-number 1.2, it’s got high resolving power and is capable of capturing even the slightest details very well, such as a single eye lash.
Price: ¥105,000
Colors: black and silver
Nikon Makes Cheaper Mirrorless Cameras to Lure Beginners Who Might Actually Like Them
Posted in: Today's Chili The New Nikon 1 J3 and Nikon 1 S1 are steps one and three of the newly established price ladder for Nikon’s series of mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras. At $500 with a slim 11-27.5mm kit zoom lens, the 10.1 megapixel Nikon 1 S1 is a particularly well-priced option that might entice the photographers who should actually be interested in Nikon’s mirrorless camera system. Nikon 1 to receive more lenses
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you happen to own the Nikon 1 digital camera, then you are in for a treat as Nikon has just announced an expansion to their lens range for the Nikon 1 under the 1 NIKKOR lens family. In fact, consumers will be on the receiving end of not one or two, but three new lenses. These new lenses are sure to expand your photo shooting horizon, where they will be the 32mm medium-telephoto fixed focal length lens with a fast maximum aperture of f/1.2 optimal for portraits exhibiting significant background blur; a vibration-reduction (VR) equipped 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 ultra wide-angle zoom lens that is the first 1 NIKKOR lens to offer a 100° angle of view; and a compact and lightweight 10x zoom lens covering the 10-100mm range of focal lengths with maximum apertures of f/4-5.6, which makes this the ideal lens to tote around everywhere regardless of the situation.
So far, Nikon has remained mum on the actual release dates for these lenses, and neither do we know just how much of a premium will Nikon slap on them, but we do hope to be there to catch the news when it breaks and relay it to our readers! [Press Release]

If you followed the launch of Nikon’s J2 interchangeable-lens compact recently, then waking up to today’s announcement of a higher-specced V2 probably won’t come as a huge surprise. Nevertheless, whereas the J2 was frustratingly incremental compared to the J1, the V2 will likely represent a more significant upgrade when it lands on shelves at the end of November. For a start, the magnesium alloy camera has been bestowed with a sizable grip, which makes a vast difference to its ergonomics — it feels much more secure and manageable in the hand, without hurting the small and lightweight appeal of this form factor. Nikon has found room for a pop-up flash too, which is certainly nice to have. The mode dial has moved to the top of the camera and now includes the four main shooting modes (P/S/A/M) — a change which, in one fell swoop, helps the entire remainder of the control system to become more intuitive and accessible. A new processing engine allows the camera to shoot 15 fps with continuous focus (versus 10 fps with the V1), with Nikon claiming that AF speed has been improved as well. And as for the bad news? It’s waiting for you after the break.

Nikon patent would perfect the art of camera tossing, protect us from our folly
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you’re one of the more daring (or foolhardy) photographers out there, you’ve tried camera tossing: hurling your camera into the air in the hopes that a timed shot will catch either a unique perspective or an artistic spin. Nikon might not want to stop those shooters from throwing caution to the wind, but its recently published Japanese patent would at least keep those throws to a minimum. Cameras based on the patent could use a built-in accelerometer not just for timing the shot, but to brace for a fall by covering the lens and retracting its barrel on the way down. In theory, the photographer gets a perfect aerial portrait without all the guesswork and a minimum of damage. Call us skeptical that we’ll ever see the patent reach a shipping product, though — even if it was limited to rugged cameras, a mode built almost exclusively around voiding the warranty probably wouldn’t sit well with Nikon’s accountants.
