Pokemon X/Y-Themed 3DS XLs Set To Arrive In North America

Pokemon X/Y Themed 3DS XLs Set To Arrive In North AmericaIt is now official – Nintendo has announced that the continent of North America would be on the receiving end of Nintendo 3DS XL handheld consoles that come in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y themes. You will be able to select from either blue or red shades, and these uniquely themed Nintendo 3DS XLs will launch later this month – on the 27th of September to be exact, at $199.99 a pop. These two Pokemon X and Pokemon Y-themed 3DS XL special editions were previously announced for Japan only, so it is nice to see that folks living in North America no longer need to specially import such devices over. A similar design regardless of color will see Xerneas and Yveltal featured alongside a large printed “X” and “Y”.

Of course, one ought to be aware that these special edition Nintendo 3DS XLs will not arrive as bundles, since they will not be released on the same day when Pokemon X and Y are launched. It is highly likely that both consoles will arrive in extremely limited quantities, and if history is anything to go by, previous 3DS XL designs were sold out pretty quickly, so you might want to grab your pre-order first before it goes missing soon enough.

Nintendo 3DS XL black model arriving next month alongside Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

It seems as if this moment couldn’t come any sooner, as Nintendo is finally releasing a black version of their 3DS XL handheld gaming system. Nintendo has previously released colored models with black trim and such, but this will be the first all-black version to hit retail, and it’s coming on the same day as the release of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team on August 11.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about an all-black version, though. It popped up in a couple of leaked ads last week, hinting to the possibility that we would see it arrive sometime soon. And without surprise, here it is to grace the hands of Nintendo 3DS fans with a new color to choose from.

As for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, the game will see Mario going into Luigi’s dreams in an effort to rescue Princess Peach, who has been kidnapped (obviously). While Nintendo keeps beating a dead horse with its Princess Peach kidnapping storyline, they sure do find different ways for Mario to rescue her.

If black isn’t quite your color, the 3DS XL comes in several other colors as well, including red, blue, and pink, as well as special editions featuring Pokemon’s Pikachu and designs for Animal Crossing: New Leaf. No word on if the black version will have a different price point, but it’ll most likely be priced at the same $200 as other color choices.

Nintendo reveals Wii U bigger batteries for GamePad and Wiimote, more

Nintendo has outed a fresh batch of hardware and accessories for Japan, including a white Wii U 32GB console and a larger battery for the tablet GamePad controller to address runtime claims. The new white Wii U 32GB Premium edition should arrive in Japan on July 13, functionally identical to the existing black model aside from the new casing; it’ll go on sale alongside a new Rapid Charging Stand for the Wiimote, which Nintendo says will cut down the amount of time gamers will need to have the motion-sensing controller on charge.

That will consist of a new battery and back panel, which will slot on to replace the existing back panel, and a new charging cradle onto which the Wiimote sits. It’s unclear exactly how much extra runtime the accessory delivers, or indeed how much charging time it cuts.

Meanwhile, there’s a new battery for the GamePad, offering 2,550 mAh of power which Nintendo claims is good for between 5 and 8 hours of runtime. That’s a big improvement on the original 1,500 mAh battery, which was one of the most criticized elements of the Wii U gaming experience: some players were seeing three hours or less before they needed to recharge.

The replacement Wiimote battery and cradle bundle will be priced at 4,200 yen ($42), while the battery on its own will be 2,625 yen ($26); the GamePad battery will be 3,150 yen ($31).

As for the Nintendo 3DS, there’s the new Luigi special edition of the XL version of the glasses-free 3D handheld, which we now know will hit shelves on July 18. It’ll be priced at 22,500 yen ($224) and come with a 4GB card in the box.

Exactly when – or indeed if – availability of the new hardware will spread outside of Japan remains to be seen. Nintendo is ramping up to a software-centric E3, the company has confirmed, with a much-needed games refresh expected at the show. There’ll also be companion events held at Best Buy stores across the US and Canada, where gamers will be able to try out some of the new titles before they’re officially on sale.
