What about the Wii U?

Everyone’s in a tizzy about the “new” console generation, conveniently forgetting that, market-wise, it was already here a year ago with the release of Nintendo’s Wii U. It isn’t as advanced technologically as the new Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox One, but the Wii U’s like the kid who still likes Ninja Turtles when everyone’s moved on to Power Rangers: They might not be as cool, but they’re still your classmate, and they’re still going to graduate with everyone else. Nintendo might seem a little square compared to Sony and Microsoft right now, but it still has the skills to succeed in school.

At launch, Nintendo sold out its entire initial allotment of 400,000 Wii U’s — which looked promising — but after the holidays, sales softened significantly and continued to slide. By E3, the situation wasn’t looking so good. Just a few months later, Nintendo announced a price cut of $50 for the console, reducing its profit on each unit sold. However, the price reduction also moved a lot of units, with the Wii U experiencing a 200 percent uptick in sales for the month of September.

Fresh Paint Windows Phone 8 Update Allows You To Port Your Work To The Desktop

Fresh Paint Windows Phone 8 Update Allows You To Port Your Work To The DesktopWhile many of us love the idea of working on the move in a mobile environment, not all mobile devices are up to par just yet when it comes to having the kind of processing power and relevant hardware required to get the job done, particularly when that exact piece of work is highly complex and needs its fair share of “muscle”. However, it makes perfect sense when you are working on something on your smartphone or tablet, before porting it over to the desktop to complete it later on. This is the case with Fresh Paint, as an upgrade has been introduced to this Windows Phone 8 app so that creators are able to resume painting on their desktop after saving all changes on SkyDrive.

There is a number of additional advantages offered for Windows Phone 8 users of Fresh Paint, too, where you will be on the receiving end of a new pencil format, the inclusion of front-facing camera support as well as an “Inspire Me” tool which will be able to hunt down images on Bing. “Inspiration” does seem to be an over-rated word these days, it could very well be the beginning of the slippery path down the road of plagiarism. After all, we have seen our fair share of “inspired” smartphones from China when the iPhone was all the rage.

Nintendo Wii Production In Japan To Cease Soon

Nintendo Wii Production In Japan To Cease Soon

It was reported earlier today that Nintendo had updated its Japan website to add a note revealing that the company is going to cease production of the Wii console in Japan soon. A spokesperson for Nintendo Europe has confirmed this, saying that the website was indeed updated back on August 29th to include a “small notice to state that Wii hardware production will stop in the near future.” The spokesperson further said that at this point in time, this decision is limited to Japan only, and that a decision on when the Wii production in Japan will cease has not been made as yet.

It has also not been revealed if a similar announcement is going to be made for other markets. The message that went up on Nintendo’s Japan website was meant for the Japanese market only and no specific timeframe has been provided as yet for halting of the hardware production. Nintendo first released the Wii gaming console back in 2006, the company has already sold more than 100 million units around the world, which makes the Nintendo Wii the best selling console of the current generation. The company launched the successor to this insanely popular console, the Nintendo Wii U, last year.

FitScales reworks Wii Fit as Android health accessory

There’s a good chance if you own a Nintendo Wii you also own the Wii Fit. Back when the Wii first launched, it was one of the most popular accessories for the Nintendo Wii game console out there and Nintendo sold the units in droves. After the controller novelty wore off, many people stopped using their Nintendo Wii and there are huge amounts of we Fit accessories hidden under entertainment centers and in closets all around the country serving no purpose.

    fitscales

If you’re on a fitness push and you happen to have a Wii Fit laying around and an Android device, a new application is available allowing you to use them together. The application is called FitScales and is specifically designed to work with that Nintendo Wii Balance Board. The app allows your weight information to be sent to other Android fitness application such as Fitbit or RunKeeper.

Apparently, setting up the app and getting it to work with the Wii Fit accessories is rather simple. All you need to do is install the app and launch it, select your height for accurate BMI measurement, and then connect the services you use. Once you have the app running, you press the red sync button on the balance board and wait for the board to calibrate with the application.

Then all you do step on the Balance Board and it will weigh you. Reports indicate that the Nintendo Wii Balance Board and FitScales combo makes for a very accurate scale. The app works on Android devices running Android 2.1-4.1 and the app is free to download.

Wii U Claimed To Have Been Hacked, Nintendo Says Console Is Still Secure

Wii U Claimed To Have Been Hacked, Nintendo Says Console Is Still Secure

Wiikey, a group that was behind the first ever mod chip for Nintendo Wii, now claims to have hacked Wii U making it able to play pirated games. Their website states that they have reversed Wii U’s disk encryption, file system, drive authentication and “everything else need for this next generation K3y.” Calling it the WiikeU, the group describes it as the first region-free optical drive emulator for Nintendo Wii U. Despite their boasting, Wiikey is yet to provide evidence of any sort that substantiates their claims.

On the other hand, Nintendo has issued a statement that it is aware of the group’s attempt though it is fairly certain that the Wii U’s anti-piracy systems are still secure. The company says it has no reports of unauthorized applications or pirated Wii U games being playable with the console in Wii U mode. Even if WiikeU is released at some point in time, Nintendo can plug it by simply releasing a software update. For now the group hasn’t said anything about a release, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this to see how it all plays out.
