Over 50 Unity Titles Developed For The Wii U

Over 50 Unity Titles Developed For The Wii UThe Nintendo Wii U isn’t the hottest selling console at the moment and it does not even look like they are coming close. We’re not sure if it’s the Wii U’s hardware, the price, the complexity of the GamePad, or if there just aren’t enough major titles for it. Well the good news for Wii U gamers is that it looks like you will be able to expect a bunch of new games in the coming months, according to Damon Baker, the Senior Manager of Marketing at Nintendo of America’s Licensing departmennt.

According to Baker, who spoke the folks at Siliconera during GDC 2014, Wii U gamers can look forward to around 17 new Unity powered indie games in the next two months. Baker mentioned that during GDC, Nintendo had about 9 games on display, and revealed that there are more in the pipeline that will be released in the next couple of months. (more…)

    A Slow Day in Afghanistan

    What do you do when you are deployed in Afghanistan and you have way too much down time? Sounds like a good problem to have in Afghanistan. Well, Redditor b3tarded is there and made the most of his or her downtime by creating a Mario mural. They could have read books, or slept, or got into some trouble. Instead they created a great piece of geek art.

    The scene included pipes, bricks and even the timer. They did a pretty good job, given the limited resources on hand. It likely also helped to cheer up a bunch of other soldiers.

    Peter Molyneux: Never Underestimate Nintendo

    Compared to companies like Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo probably isn’t doing so hot at the moment. Wii U sales have been called disappointing with Nintendo slashing their estimates by a huge margin at the same time.

    However Nintendo is known for the first-party titles and with new titles like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. on their way, there is a small chance that these titles could reinvigorate sales of the Wii U and demand for Nintendo products. In fact game designer Peter Molyneux thinks that Nintendo is a company that shouldn’t be underestimated, according to a recent interview with IGN. (more…)

    Fan Remaking Super Mario 64 in HD: Super Mario 1080

    Nintendo’s “enhanced remake” of the legendary N64 launch title Super Mario 64 was a Nintendo DS port that added new characters, game modes and more. With his remake, YouTuber Aryoksini is going to improve at least one aspect of the game: its graphics.

    Aryoksini is remaking Super Mario 64 using Blender, an open source 3D animation suite that has a built-in game engine. He has a long way to go – and that’s if Nintendo allows him to go on – and makes it clear that the video you see below shouldn’t reflect the finished game.
