Nokia has commonly used their low-light performance on their cameras to help market their smartphones. After all with smartphones being more or less commonplace these days, we guess having a good quality camera is a pretty important aspect when making […]
We’ve been hearing rumors about the Nokia EOS smartphone, supposedly a Nokia Lumia device equivalent to the 808 PureView, except with Windows Phone calling the shots. We’re sure many are wondering what the device might look like, and with the […]
Nokia took to its blog today to introduce Xpress Now, an enhanced version of its Xpress browser. Made for Asha devices, the web app delivers personalized content suggestions based both on your personal preferences and those of the browser’s “more than 80 million monthly users.” These new recommendations come courtesy of three separate browsers views: What’s Hot, You May Also like and Most Liked. The categories are largely self-explanatory, and we imagine suggested content will be more spot-on after the app has been around for a few months. For the time being, though, Nokia Xpress Now is in beta in India, and it should make its away to other countries later in 2013.
Nokia Lumia 920 is one of the best selling Windows Phone 8 smartphones. Only earlier today it was reported that Windows Phone has now passed BlackBerry to clinch the coveted third spot in the smartphone market, the Lumia range of […]
Nokia announced its Lumia 928 would be making its way to Verizon starting on May 16 for $100 with a two-year agreement last week and it looks like that’s kind of half true as the device is now available to purchase […]
Nokia’s Lumia 928 may not have had the high-profile launch of its Lumia 925 sibling, but the Verizon LTE smartphone does have the benefit of being on sale today. Available from this morning, priced at $99.99 with a new, two-year agreement, the Verizon Lumia 928 joins the rarefied list of current smartphones offering a Xenon flash.
That means better low-light photos, with Xenons usually far stronger than the LED flashes we’re used to seeing on smartphones. You don’t miss out on a video light, either, with the Lumia 928′s focus-assist LED capable of being repurposed for illuminating during video recording.
Functionally, the new smartphone is much the same as what the Lumia 920 was offering months ago. However, it’s packaged up in a neater design, with the squared-off polycarbonate casing fitting more neatly into the hand, and yet still accommodating the PureView suspended optical system, which helps the high-end Lumia take such solid low-light photos.
There’s also a new display, versus that of the 920, with Nokia slotting in an OLED ClearBlack panel, coincidentally the same screen as on the Lumia 925. That’s topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 2 which forms the entire edge-to-edge fascia of the smartphone.
Interestingly, if you head over to RadioShack, the Lumia 928 is going for half of Verizon’s upfront price, though you’ll still need to commit to a two-year agreement.
There’s more on the Lumia 928 in our hands-on and unboxing. We’ve also got photo samples from the 8.7-megapixel PureView camera.
It still doesn’t have a ton to show off, but we are now at least getting a better picture of what upstart Adaia has in store for its first smartphone. Speaking with AllThingsD, CEO Heikki Sarajarvi (just one of a number of former Nokia workers at Adaia) explained that he was driven to create the company after destroying one too many smartphones while sailing. Now, the company finally has a working prototype of its first device — one that’s not only rugged, but with both cellular and satellite connectivity to keep the more adventurous among us connected at all times.
As for the hardware, Adaia says that it’s partnered with BMW Group’s DesignworksUSA on the industrial design, which is said to be inspired by a topographical map, while Elektrobit will be handling the inner bits. The phone will be dubbed the Blackcomb according to the company’s website, and apparently won’t be available to the public until sometime next year. It will, however, be put to the test this summer when a team attempts to cross the Northwest Passage with it in tow. It also, unsurprisingly, won’t come cheap. As far as a price goes, Sarajarvi would only say that it’ll cost more than a high-end smartphone, but less than the four phones he’s had to replace put together.
Nokia, the Finnish smartphone company has yet another device up for the masses to consider if you are in the midst of mulling over whether you want to change your mobile phone to a different model, or perhaps even an alternative operating system after being back and forth between the iOs and Android platforms. What you see above is the spanking new Nokia Lumia 925, which so happens to be a new interpretation of its award-winning flagship, that is, the Nokia Lumia 920. The Nokia Lumia 925 will arrive in a stunning metal design and will boast of the latest PureView camera innovation for you to capture some really stunning photos, in addition to carrying a slew of new features and third party applications for added functionality.
Nokia claims that their new flagship, the Lumia 925, will be accompanied by the most advanced lens technology and next generation imaging software which enables it to capture clearer, sharper pictures and video, and among these will include the best low light images. The Nokia Lumia 925 is also said to feature the new Nokia Smart Camera mode, which will eventually arrive across the board to the slew of Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones. Just what does Nokia Smart Camera bring to the table? For starters, it offers an easy way to capture ten images at once, not to mention allowing you to edit the pictures using options such as Best Shot, Action Shot, and Motion Focus to create the perfect high quality image.
Nokia has also announced Hipstamatic’s new app, Oggl, that will hit Nokia Lumia smartphones, letting folks capture and share high quality images with other like-minded folks and photography enthusiasts worldwide, letting you do so as well on your slew of social networks ranging from Facebook to Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Flickr and Instagram. This marks the first time that metal is introduced to the Lumia range, and you can choose from white, grey or black for the polycarbonate back. There is the option to clip on a wireless charging cover to the back of the smartphone so that it can take advantage of Nokia’s extensive wireless charging accessories and ecosystem. These covers will be sold separately in white, black, yellow, and red colors. Expect the Nokia Lumia 925 to retail for around 469 Euros before taxes and subsidies.
