Nokia X: The First Nokia Androids
Posted in: Today's ChiliAfter much heavy rumor
[MWC 2014] Here we are at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and Stephen Elop has taken to the stage by touting just how well Windows Phone as a mobile operating system has done for itself over the years, where we are now at a point in time when Windows Phone holds 10% of the mobile operating system market, with an interesting snippet that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the one which is pushing sales. The recent introduction of the Nokia Treasure Tag proximity sensor, as well as the Nokia Lumia Icon launched alongside Verizon Wireless in the US, will help bring the smartphone manufacturer to greater heights. Not only that, Elop also shared that BBM as well as Photoshop Express will be making their way to the Windows Phone platform, although an estimated release date was not shared with the masses.

Nokia Lumia 630 “Moneypenny” Leaked
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe have been hearing about a certain Nokia Lumia 630 and now thanks to a recent post by the ever reliable @evleaks, we now have a glimpse at the upcoming handset. This is actually the first time we are taking a look at the Lumia 630, a handset which in the past has been referred to by its codename, Moneypenny. Unfortunately apart from revealing the handset’s design and some of its potential software features, not much else is known about the Lumia 630 in terms of specs. However what we do know are based on rumors that suggests that the handset will come packing a 4.5-inch display of unknown resolution and that it will also feature dual SIM support.
Now the bad news is that if you were hoping that Nokia might be announcing the Lumia 630 at MWC 2014 which is taking place this week, you’d be out of luck because according to the rumors, MWC for Nokia is all about showing off its Android handset, the Nokia Normandy/Nokia X. This is a highly-anticipated handset despite its rumored lowly specs, mainly because many years ago, Nokia threw all their eggs into the Windows Phone basket, and to be on the cusp of being acquired by Microsoft, releasing an Android handset would definitely be an interesting move.

Perhaps Microsoft has learnt from their past mistakes with Windows 8 when they announced that Windows 7 handsets would not be upgradable to Windows 8, causing an uproar amongst Windows 7 users. After all these were the users who decided to give Microsoft’s new mobile platform a go and this was how they were being “rewarded” for their efforts. Thankfully things have changed with Windows Phone 8.1. As you might recall, Microsoft has promised that all existing Windows 8 handsets will be eligible for the Windows Phone 8.1 update, and in a recent video, we can clearly see the Nokia Lumia 520 running the latest software update.
For those unfamiliar, the Lumia 520 is one of the lower-end Windows Phone 8 handsets in the market at the moment. The specs of the device are certainly not that impressive but at the same time, it has proven itself to be the most popular Windows Phone device around the world. So we guess if one of the lower-end Windows Phone devices has no issue running the latest update, we guess higher-end handsets like the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Lumia Icon should not have any problems receiving the update themselves either. As it stands, Windows Phone 8.1 has been pegged for a release between July and August, so there’s still a bit of waiting we will have to do.

Over the past few years Nokia has become synonymous with Windows Phone smartphones, it is Microsoft’s largest WP OEM that has played a major part in driving growth for Redmond’s mobile operating system. The company’s devices and services division is now set to be acquired by Microsoft for $7.17 billion, though that deal hasn’t been closed just yet. As it continues to function independently for now, there have been many rumors recently about Nokia launching an Android phone. When asked how Microsoft felt about that, Windows Phone VP Joe Belfiore said “Some things we’re excited about, some things we’re less excited about.”
