On the 24th of February, 2014, Nokia will almost certainly be revealing their first Android smartphone. We’ve heard of this fabled Nokia X Phone several times before, understanding it to … Continue reading
Nokia’s preferred colors for its branding have almost always been blue and white, though recently when it went green, speculation fired about once again about its much rumored Nokia X smartphone. Since last year it has been rumored consistently that Nokia is working on an Android powered smartphone, even though for the last couple of years it has only exclusively made Windows Phone smartphones. The device is reportedly called Nokia X, and the Nokia MWC 2014 webcast teaser certainly seems to hint at that, with four arrows converging to form an X above a green background.

Nokia X Press Image Leaked (Rumor)
Posted in: Today's Chili@evleaks has had its fair share of hits in the past when it comes to information on upcoming devices, and the latest from @evleaks would be an alleged press image of the Nokia X that has been talked about for quite some time already over the grapevine. It would be Nokia’s first foray into the Android-powered world – which is interesting, really, where it would also be somewhat a replacement for the Asha line, making it instantly affordable to the masses, compared to it being a high end device that will duke it out against the likes of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. In the leak, it seems that the Nokia X will be the official name of the handset, where it was also referred to as the Nokia Normandy in the past.

TC Droidcast Episode 22: Nokia Goes Android While HTC Plays The Customer Care Card
Posted in: Today's ChiliOn this week’s Droidcast, me and Chris Velazco get tough on smartwatches, but first we discuss Nokia Android “Nokia X” device plans and other infertile hybrid animals, and HTC’s renewed commitment to customer care and how that might affect its fortunes. Finally, we talk a bit about Chromecast, Google’s mobile-to-big screen media streamer and its new SDK.
Long story short, we know a lot about Nokia’s unreleased Android phone except for why it exists; HTC made some promises to customers in an AMA recently; and Google has made the Cast SDK part of its most recent stable release of Google Play services, so we should see a slew of apps offering up support for that home theater companion.

It is no secret that Nokia has an Android phone in the works called the Nokia Normandy, a surprising move by the Finnish company who is on the cusp of being acquired by Microsoft. That being said, what sort of hardware specs can we expect from the device? Based on previous rumors, it would suggest that the handset is a particularly low-end affair, which is surprising as we would have thought Nokia would have gone all out for their possibly one and only Android device. Unfortunately it looks like it will be a low-end handset, as it has been recently “confirmed” by @evleaks who revealed the specs of the handset on his Twitter account.
According to @evleaks, it seems that we can look forward to the Nokia Normandy packing a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD, a 5MP rear-facing camera, and a 1.500mAh battery. It will also run on a forked version of Android, similar to how Amazon has their own forked version of Android on their Kindle Fire tablets. Of course if you believe the rumors, it would suggest that Nokia has more Android devices up their sleeves, so if the Normandy is just the first of many to come, hopefully we will see a more powerful version down the road. Either way we expect Nokia to make the announcement at MWC 2014, so check back with us then for the details!

Microsoft’s deal to acquire Nokia is expected to conclude in 2014, although there were some concerns and objections raised by the Indian government that could have potentially thrown a wrench into the deal, but according to a recent press release from Nokia, it looks like the acquisition is still on the table and is proceeding as planned and is expected to close by the end of the first quarter of 2014. According to earlier rumors, the conclusion of the deal was expected to be announced at MWC 2014 alongside Nokia’s announcement of a new hardware brand, but based on the wording of the press release, it would seem that we might still have a while to go.
According to Nokia’s press release, “Nokia would like to stress that recent developments in India related to ongoing tax proceedings are not expected to affect the timing of the closing nor the material deal terms of the anticipated transaction between Nokia and Microsoft, announced on September 3, 2013.” The dispute Nokia has in India is with the government who claims that Nokia owes them taxes up to $1.1 billion. Nokia has attempted to appease the Indian government by offering them $369 million to unfreeze its assets, sort of as a show of good faith in order to allow the deal to proceed which would see Nokia transferring its factory in Chennai over to Microsoft.

The worlds of fashion and tech have definitely overlapped one another from time to time, and at the London Fashion Week, it was extremely interesting to note that a fair number of high tech garments as well as accessories have captured the imagination of the masses, and hopefully in due time, their wallets as well. A three month long project by Nokia, fashion designer Fyodor Golan as well as creative design house Kin has resulted in a Lumia skirt which comprises of the Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1020 handsets. Now you can be sure that this is not the lightest skirt to wear, so do not worry about a gust of wind blowing in the wrong direction as I don’t think it will be able to generate any adequate lifting force, unless we’re talking about hurricane-class gales here.
