Nokia’s net sales in the last quarter of 2013 rose 18-percent compared to Q3, but the company still ended the year down €12.7bn ($17.4bn) compared to 2012. “The fourth quarter … Continue reading
We more or less know that the Nokia Lumia 929, also known as the Lumia Icon from the Finnish smartphone manufacturer, is well on its way to Verizon Wireless. The thing is, the mobile carrier has not been doing too great a job at keeping the Lumia Icon under tabs, as a manual for the smartphone has already been leaked, in addition to the potential launch information as well as what looks like an official image of it. @evleaks has revealed an image from a user guide, with this being the latest leak of the Nokia Lumia Icon.

Nokia will report its fourth-quarter 2013 earnings tomorrow, a seminal moment for the company as the figures will represent the last full period in which it will own the hardware assets that it is selling to Microsoft.
It also matters as Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone sales in the quarter will provide a report card of sorts for Microsoft. Given that Nokia makes and sells the vast majority of Windows Phone devices, its sales are proxy for the larger market for the phones. So if Nokia had a good quarter selling Lumias, Microsoft had a good quarter selling Windows Phones.
Microsoft will report its earnings later in the day.
Nokia sold 8.8 million Lumia devices in the third quarter of 2013. Given extant growth trends, we would expect Nokia to sell more phones in the fourth quarter. Add the simple fact that the period includes the holiday sales cycle, and we expect another bump. This means that Nokia should sell — easily — more than 10 million Lumia handsets in the quarter.
The stakes here are high for Nokia, given that it’s hard to win in this context, but very easy to lose. If it sells 11.5 million handsets instead of 11 I doubt people will laud it. But a weak number could cast a pall. The irony is that the asset in question is what the company is selling, so a negative result may not have as sharp an impact on its share price as it otherwise might.
Investors are expecting Nokia to earn around €0.08 ($0.11) in the quarter on revenue of €6.4 billion ($8.671 billion). It will be interesting to parse the company’s earnings as it intends to mark the assets it is selling as discontinued businesses. Nokia will dramatically change once it and Microsoft clear the final regulatory hurdles that sit between their consummation.
For the full-year period, Nokia is expected to earn €0.07 ($0.09) (on aggregate revenue of €23.7 billion ($32.11 billion) in revenue. That latter figure is a firm decline from its 2012 tally of €30.2 billion ($40.92 billion). And Nokia, selling off another chunk of revenue, is about to slim again.
So that’s that. Keep your eye on the Lumia number, as it matters for both firms.

Verizon and Nokia are expected to announce the Nokia Lumia Icon a.k.a Lumia 929 soon. The handset has made countless appearances in leaked photos, appeared on Verizon’s website, appeared and sold in China, but yet we still do not have an official announcement or release date yet. We really have no clue what’s going on over at Verizon, but the handset has once again made an appearance on Verizon’s website and appears to cost $777 on and off-contract, which is odd because $777 with a new two-year contract should be much cheaper, so if we had to guess, it looks like the website went live a little earlier than expected. It also looks like customers will be able to order the handset in either a black or white finish. (more…)

HERE Transit has proven to be an invaluable help to those who own Nokia Lumia handsets, as this app enables one to get around town for free without having to rely on any data plan or Internet connection. Well, the lower end Nokia Asha owners have not had such a privilege before, at least, not until now, as Asha owners too, are able to experience the similar door-to-door navigation with HERE Transit availability on their handsets.

Path Arrives On Windows Phone
Posted in: Today's ChiliPath on Windows Phone first rolled out to the masses as a public beta, where this social networking app will be able to deliver a special bunch of features that has been specially built for Nokia Lumia devices. As you and I both know very well, there are way too many social networks as well as messaging products which have flooded the market, and most of us are already using at the very least one of them. This begs the question, what would make Path so special?

Now this is definitely interesting – the Nokia Lumia 929, which is an unannounced handset (that some claim to be known as the Nokia Lumia Icon), has just gone on sale, in of all places, China. The Nokia Lumia 929 is touted to be a high end smartphone which will run on the Windows Phone mobile operating system, and hugely popular online marketplace TaoBao is touted to sell it for ¥3800 (approximately $628 after conversion) a pop, as an unlocked device, of course.

Nokia is not necessarily a company that deals with “mini” versions of their phones. Those mini variants are usually best left to Samsung and Sony who have released such devices in the past, but it seems that Nokia could be working on a mini version of one of its phones, at least that’s according to the rumors. According to reports out of China, it seems that Nokia is rumored to be working on a Lumia 1520 mini, or Lumia 1520 V which is its alleged moniker. It will be based on the Lumia 1520 but will sport different specs, which in all honesty sounds a bit like the rumored Nokia Lumia 929 a.k.a Lumia Icon for Verizon.
So what sort of specs are we looking at? Well for starters it is rumored to sport a 4.3” display but interestingly enough, Nokia will be maintaining the Full HD 1920×1080 display, meaning that in terms of sharpness, the Lumia 1520 V will be a force to be reckoned with. It is also rumored to feature 2GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, and come with a 14MP PureView camera, and a 3,000mAh battery to top it off. Based on these specs it does sound a bit like the Lumia Icon for Verizon, just with a much smaller display. The Lumia 1520 V is rumored for a launch after Windows Phone 8.1 is released in April. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think?

The Nokia Lumia 929 a.k.a Lumia Icon is very real. We’ve seen the device pop up on Verizon’s website and last we heard, it was rumored for a 16th of January release, but safe to say that did not happen. We’re not sure why Verizon is waiting around to announce the handset, let alone release it. Could it be that they are waiting to make an announcement at MWC 2014? Well whatever the case is, it seems that the Lumia Icon has managed to traverse the seas/skies and make its way into China where it is being sold, and interestingly and bizarrely enough, it looks like the model sold in China is actually Verizon’s model and boots up with Verizon’s logo (pictured above).
This seems to suggest that Verizon might have stock of the Lumia Icon but might be simply sitting on it for whatever reasons. The listing in China has given it a price tag of $630, which we’re not sure if it could be reflective of Verizon’s own pricing. For those hearing about the Lumia Icon for the first time, it is basically a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. Instead of sporting a large 6” display, the Lumia Icon is said to sport a smaller and more manageable 5” display, and for the most part will retain the same hardware specs as the Lumia 1520. In any case we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled for more information regarding the Lumia Icon’s availability, so check back with us at a later date for the details.
