The likes of Apple, Google, Microsoft and other major figures in the smartphone industry have signed a pledge that will make it harder to steal cell phones—from July 2015, at least.
Earlier this year at MWC 2014 and Microsoft’s BUILD 2014 conference, Nokia took the wraps off a handful of devices, like the Nokia X series of Android smartphones, as well as devices like the Nokia Lumia 630, Lumia 635, Lumia 930, and so on. Presumably Nokia has more handsets in the works and thanks to a recent post by the ever-reliable @evleaks, there are apparently 8 Nokia handsets we can look forward to.
According to @evleaks, he has revealed 8 devices, all of which are codenamed. They are the Ara, Leo, Moonraker, Onyx, Peridot, Superman, Tesla, and Vantage. Now there’s no telling what kind of devices these are and for all we know, it could range from low-high end products so we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.
There is a good chance that these are devices we have not heard of, especially since the codenames for Nokia’s previous devices have already been revealed, except for the Nokia Monarch which is basically T-Mobile’s Lumia 635. It’s a little too early to tell what these devices are but either do check back with us at a later date for more information.
In the meantime for fans of Nokia products, it looks like the Finnish company (and soon to be owned by Microsoft) has a ton of new products up their sleeves that they have yet to reveal. So, who else is excited at the idea of more Nokia smartphones arriving in the future?
Upcoming Nokia Device Codenames Leaked , original content from Ubergizmo, Filed in Cellphones, Rumors, Nokia,
According to the rumors we heard last month, Nokia was reportedly working on a device codenamed “Monarch”. We weren’t sure what handset the codename belonged to at that point in time, but thanks to a recent post by the ever-reliable @evleaks, it seems that the Nokia Monarch could in reality be the Nokia Lumia 635 that will be making its way onto T-Mobile’s network.
The Nokia Lumia 635 was announced earlier this month during Microsoft’s BUILD conference and has been announced for T-Mobile, so we guess the mystery has been solved as to what the Monarch is. We guess in some way we’re a little disappointed that this isn’t a brand new Nokia device that we haven’t heard of, but we can’t say we’re too surprised. (more…)

For the most part, governments around the world have approved the Microsoft-Nokia deal, save for India in which they are having a dispute with Nokia at the moment regarding taxes. To help the deal move forward, Nokia has decided to forgo the inclusion of their factory in Chennai which would have been transferred over to Microsoft if everything had gone to plan.
Now the good news is that Nokia will not be forsaking their workers in India and have recently announced that they will be providing redundancy packages to their workers. At the moment Nokia’s Chennai factory employs about 6,600 full-time employees and according to Nokia, all of them will qualify for these redundancy packages. (more…)

Only PureView And High-End Nokia Handsets To Get Dedicated Camera Button [Rumor]
Posted in: Today's ChiliDedicated camera buttons on smartphones can be handy and can result in more stable images compared to having to press the on-screen shutter button. It also makes the camera feel more “natural” since a physical shutter button and the way it’s held is more familiar, at least for those who have been using cameras for a long time.
Now if there’s one thing that you’ve probably noticed is that Nokia seems to have done away with the need for a dedicated camera button, at least one some of its newer devices. Apparently this is because they are planning on reserving that hardware feature for its higher-end handsets and for future PureView smartphones as well.
This is according to the folks at Gadgethelpline who recently stopped by the Microsoft and Nokia booth at the Gadget Show Live in UK. According to them, “The Power and Volume controls on the right side of the device are the only controls situated on the case, with Nokia telling us that the lack of a dedicated camera button is now a feature of low end handsets, with only the higher ranged Nokia Pureview cameras coming with a dedicated button.”
We’re not sure why Nokia might decide to do this, perhaps it could that they want their high-end phones to stand out more from the lineup, who knows? In the meantime what do you guys think? Are you a little bummed that this feature may no longer show up in low-mid ranged Nokia Lumia devices?

Nokia, the once seemingly invincible 800lbs gorilla in the mobile phone scene, has certainly tumbled from its lofty heights with the introduction of the smartphone to the scene. They have, however, managed to stay in the game admirably well (as opposed to BlackBerry that is clearly struggling in most, if not all, markets) thanks to their partnership with Microsoft and rolling out Windows Phone-powered devices that cater to every budget – from the entry level all the way to the high end. Well, this does not mean that Nokia has forgotten about their roots, as feature phones do remain their bread and butter in many markets, especially in developing and emerging markets. Having said that, the Nokia 225 and Nokia 225 Dual SIM ought to be best sellers when available.
The whole idea of the Nokia 225 and the Nokia 225 Dual SIM is to deliver the Internet to even more people, all without having to break the bank. Sporting Nokia’s design and quality in these two handsets, they happen to be the slimmest Internet phone in Nokia’s stable to date, sporting a more generous 2.8” display so that your eyes do not squint unnecessarily, making it ideal for pockets and handbags alike.
Not only that, the Nokia 225 is also robust, sporting a dust and splash proof keymat, where it also comes with standby times of up to 36 days for single SIM and 27 days for Dual SIM – although I seriously doubt that anyone is going to get that kind of standby times in real life. Surely someone is going to call you or text your at least once in a month, right? Expect both handsets to arrive in red, yellow, green, black and white shades.
Using Nokia’s Xpress Browser, your Internet browsing data costs will be reduced drastically thanks to data being optimized before it arrives on your device, and you also have Facebook and Twitter apps preloaded to help you start chatting away right out of the box. At the back lies a 2MP camera, while you can carry up to 32GB of memory thanks to its microSD slot. As its name implies, the Nokia 225 Dual SIM is ideal for you to use two different contracts simultaneously on one device. The asking price? 39 Euros a pop.

As the Nokia X smartphone runs on a forked version of Google’s Android mobile operating system, which translates to it not having access to Google’s services such as the Play Store or Hangouts, this does not mean that you are unable to run Android apps on it. The developer, however, will play an important role, and we are pleased to say that Facebook Messenger is now available on the Nokia X, while making its appearance for the Nokia Lumia and Nokia Asha devices, too.
Doing away with likes, shares and personal feeds, the Facebook Messenger app intends to be a pure conversation app, concentrating on you having private conversations with your mates. This means there is no need for the full Facebook app to be installed beforehand, which is a good thing if you happen to be running low on memory on your smartphone. With the Facebook Messenger app on Nokia’s devices, you can check out who happens to be online, being able to create group chats and send photos and stickers, now how about that?
Those who are rocking toa Nokia Lumia will see your Facebook friends added to your People Hub automatically, where notifications pop up on the Start Screen. As for Nokia X and Asha owners, these notifications will appear in Fastlane.[Press Release]

Nokia X Custom Android ROM Revealed
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen the Nokia X was announced at the end of February this year, many people were surprised to find out that this happens to be the first Android-powered device from Nokia, who have stood by Windows Phone staunchly before that. While it is not exactly a true blue Android-powered device as it runs on a forked version of the mobile platform, this does not mean that the Nokia X would not be on the receiving end of a custom Android firmware. Sure, the stock Nokia X is unable to support Google’s mobile services like the Play Store or Hangouts, but at least one can now enjoy the benefits of a custom ROM for some spice in life.
Senior XDA developer dhacker29 happens to be the one behind this custom Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM for the Nokia X, where the firmware relies on source code from Code Aurora that comprises of vanilla Android, in addition to the rest of the specific enhancements and optimizations for Qualcomm’s chipset that is already present in the smartphone itself.
The existing build is stable enough for normal, everyday use, with stuff such as network connectivity, camera, FM radio, GPS and location services running without a hitch. Do bear in mind though that certain navigation issues were discovered, which is no surprise considering how the Nokia X has just one hardware button. Good to know that a second version of this custom Android ROM has on-screen navigation buttons.

Apart from that, those who lead active lifestyles need not miss a beat, since the Nokia 225 comes with a dust and splash proof keymat, standby times of up to 36 days for single SIM and 27 days for Dual SIM, now how about that?
You can choose from red, yellow, green, black and white colors, while a 2MP camera at the back handles any impromptu moments when you need to snap a photo.
