Nokia RM-964 With 5.2-inch Display Spotted

Nokia RM 964 With 5.2 inch Display SpottedThere are a couple of Nokia devices that have been recently rumored that have yet to surface, suggesting that come 2014, we could be in for a treat in the form of an avalanche of Nokia handsets. According to the latest leak, a certain Nokia RM-964 has surfaced and comes with a price tag that would suggest that the handset would be a flagship device for Nokia. While the particulars of the handset remain unknown for the most part, what we do know is that the handset will feature a 5.2” display, and that’s pretty much it for now.

Some are speculating that it could be the international variant of the Nokia Lumia 929, a handset which has yet to be official, but some are calling it a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. Assuming this is true, the Nokia RM-964 could feature a Full HD 1080p display, a quad-core processor, and a 20MP PureView camera. This is purely speculation for now, but hopefully come 2014 we will learn more about the device.

To date there have been other rumored Nokia devices making their way onto the internet, such as the Nokia Normandy, Nokia’s rumored Android device; the Nokia RM-977, a dual SIM budget device; and the Nokia Lumia 2020, an alleged 8.3” Windows RT tablet.

Nokia Normandy Could Be Android-Powered Device

Nokia Normandy Could Be Android Powered DeviceWhat you see above is an image leaked by @evleaks, and it has been touted to be the upcoming Nokia Normandy device. Leaked last month, very little was known about the Nokia Normandy, and the seemingly missing hardware shutter button, capacitive buttons and LED flash do point to this handset being an Asha device which is most likely produced to target emerging markets as well as those who are on a tight budget. The Verge’s Tom Warren has a different take on it though, as he has followed up with multiple sources, and has come away with the very real possibility of it being an Android-powered smartphone which is due for a release later next year.

An Android-powered device from Nokia? That does not sound quite right at all, especially when you consider how Nokia has been the champion for the Windows Phone 8 platform all this while, not to mention having it being acquired by Microsoft this year. Warren did share, however, that the Nokia Normandy could be an entry level Asha class handset that offers an alternative version of Android which will not be connected to Google services, giving Nokia a free hand to customize it according to its liking, pretty much in the same way Amazon has been doing with their Kindle Fire.

Nokia warned not to become patent troll following Microsoft acquisition

Earlier this year, Nokia sold the majority of its handset business to Microsoft, but held on to its roster of patents. The warning came from the European Commission’s head […]

Additional Nokia Lumia 2020 “Illusionist” Rumors Surface

Additional Nokia Lumia 2020 Illusionist Rumors SurfaceA couple of months ago, Nokia unveiled the Lumia 2520, a 10.1” Windows RT tablet, but it wasn’t too long after that announcement that rumors began to circulate that Nokia could have a smaller tablet in the works. Codenamed “Illusionist”, this particular tablet is said to be of the 8.3” variety, and subsequent rumors have suggested that the tablet could be known as the Lumia 2020 and was pegged for a 2014 release.

Recent rumors have surfaced and are now pointing at a device whose model number is the RX-115, which some are speculating to be the Nokia Lumia 2020 “Illusionist”. Not much was known about the Illusionist, apart from its codename and possible product name, but the recent rumor has revealed some of its specs, like how it would sport an 8.3” Full HD 1080p LCD display, as well as come with a SIM card slot for cellular connectivity.

However according to the shipping manifest, the device has been categorized as a cellphone, as opposed to a tablet. Given its size we doubt this is a phablet, but it could simply be that it was labeled as a cellphone for customs purposes. No word on when we might see the Lumia 2020 revealed, but with CES and MWC taking place early next year, perhaps we might learn more then.

Nokia RM-977 To Come In A Dual SIM Variant As Well

Nokia RM 977 To Come In A Dual SIM Variant As WellYesterday we reported on a certain Nokia RM-977, a handset which apparently featured a 4.5” display and was supposed to be an affordable device at the same time, which some are calling it the “true” Lumia 520 successor. In any case it has come to our attention that there could be another variant of the RM-977, at least according to import data from India which has revealed that the handset will also come with in a dual SIM variant, indicating that it will most likely head to emerging markets such as India and China where dual SIM smartphones are pretty commonplace.

While it is unclear as to when the RM-977 will be launched, the rumors are speculating that we could see its release in Q1 2014, suggesting that perhaps it might see an announcement at either CES 2014 or MWC 2014, both of which are around the corner. The document has also revealed that the handset could cost between $100 to $130, which seems to corroborate yesterday’s claims which suggested that the RM-977 could cost around $130, which we reckon seems like a pretty good deal and would definitely make it an affordable device.

Nokia Offers Indian Authorities $369 Million To Unfreeze Its Assets

Nokia Offers Indian Authorities $369 Million To Unfreeze Its Assets

Due to a tax dispute, authorities in India have freezed Nokia’s assets. The Finnish manufacturer has sold its devices and services division to Microsoft, the sale has already received approval from Nokia shareholders, the EU Commission as well as the U.S. Department of Justice. With the deal set to be completed in the first quarter of 2014, unfrozen assets could result in complications during transfer of ownership of the assets located in India. On top of the amount it has already agreed to pay, Nokia has offered to pay an additional $369 million so that its assets, particularly a phone manufacturing facility in Chennai, is unfrozen.

Nokia has said that the tax dispute in India won’t affect the deal at a major scale, the only problems it will create though will be in transfer of ownership. Once the deal closes, the manufacturing facility along with other relevant assets will be handed over to Microsoft. If the assets are not unfrozen by the time the deal closes, they can not be transferred. However, the manufacturing facility will be allowed to operate as usual. To avoid shutting down production, Microsoft will have to bring Nokia on board as a contract manufacturer until the tax dispute is resolved and the assets, including the facility, is finally handed over to Microsoft. Redmond has agreed to pay $7.17 billion for Nokia’s devices and services division.

Nokia BH-121 Bluetooth Stereo Headset Announced

Nokia BH 121 Bluetooth Stereo Headset AnnouncedThere was plenty of buzz surrounding the Nokia Guru not too long ago, and all of that waiting has finally been rewarded with the introduction of the Nokia BH-121, a Bluetooth stereo headset. It will arrive in the various colors that are often associated with Nokia smartphones in recent times, among them include cyan, red, yellow and black. The Nokia BH-121 comes in a neatly crafted tile design that some might think was inspired by the iPod shuffle, as it measures 39mm x 39mm x 12mm, with the ability to attach to your clothing thanks to the included secure clip.

All the relevant controls required to run the Nokia BH-121 have been thrown into the mix, where a single button is good enough to handle your calls and to play music. As for the volume controls, Bluetooth, and track control buttons, those have been carefully located along the edges so that they can be accessed in a jiffy. Being NFC-enabled, the BH-121 could not be paired to your smartphone in a simpler manner, where all it takes is but a single tap. Multi-point support is also thrown into the mix if you so desire to hook up a couple of devices. Expect the Nokia BH-121 to arrive this month for €39 a pop. [Press Release]
