Nokia Solar Energy Suit Could Offer Alternative Phone Charging Option

Using solar panels to harness the power of the sun is definitely not new at all, and best of all is, you do not need any kind of direct sunlight for it to work. Well, new technology is constantly being researched and developed to increase the efficiency levels of a solar panel, not to mention make them a whole lot more robust as well as giving them the ability to withstand abuse. Nokia too, intends to look more into sustainability initiatives, and in the video that you can view above, Nokia’s “Solar Energy Suit” might be able to keep your smartphone juiced throughout the entire day.

Of course, this is still extremely early in its research and development phase, but to be able to keep a Lumia 1520 handset fully charged all day long with indoor light is not an achievement to be sneezed at. Imagine the future where you will not need to remember to plug in a charger to charge your handset at the end of the day, and it would also mean one less power adapter to carry around whenever you go traveling into a foreign country.

I suppose it would be rather weird to wear the solar panel suit of armor all day long, but hopefully advancements in the future will not make wearing one of these to be a social faux pas.

Nokia Lumia 930 To Come Bundled With Wireless Chargers

Nokia Lumia 930 To Come Bundled With Wireless ChargersIf you were thinking about getting your hands on a brand new Windows Phone handset, perhaps the recently announced Nokia Lumia 930 might be of interest to you. Given that the handset is essentially the international variant of the Nokia Lumia Icon, which is a smaller version of the Lumia 1520, safe to say that the Lumia 930 will be a pretty good buy.

Perhaps to tempt you even further, Nokia has revealed that the Lumia 930 will be bundled with a free wireless charging accessory. Previously, the wireless charging accessory was sold separately which meant that customers who weren’t particular taken by the feature could opt not to buy it.

However Nokia plans on helping push the use of wireless charging which is why they have decided to bundle the accessory together with the sale of the handset. The good news is that the Lumia 930 will have wireless charging built into the phone itself, meaning that you won’t have to purchase an additional charging plate and will just require a charging base.

The Nokia Lumia 930 is expected to go on sale later this June where it will be released in regions like Europe, Asia, and the Middle East where it is expected to retail for around $599 off-contract. So if you had your eye on a new phone, perhaps the Lumia 930 with its free wireless charger might be of interest to you.

Nokia MD-12 Portable Speaker Uses Any Hard Surface to Increase the Bass

Nokia has unveiled a new Bluetooth portable speaker that is very small but promises big bass. The speaker is called the Nokia MD-12 and it is about the weight of an apple.

It has an integrated vibrating actuator inside. This technology is able to create low frequency bass sounds when placed on most surfaces. The bass is stronger when the surface is hard, helping to produce low frequencies that you don’t expect from such a small device.

Power for the speaker comes from an internal rechargeable battery good for 15 hours of playback per charge. An integrated mic lets the speaker be used as a speakerphone on the go. If your device lacks Bluetooth, you can connect it via an aux input as well. Nokia also includes NFC tech inside for easy paring with NFC devices. The MS-12 will cost €39 (~$54 USD), and it will come in a variety of bright colors.

Nokia Glance Not Arriving For Lumia 930 Due To Hardware Limitations

Nokia Glance Not Arriving For Lumia 930 Due To Hardware LimitationsNokia Glance is a pretty cool feature of Nokia phones. For those unfamiliar, it basically provides the user with information about their phones, such as the time and notifications without having to touch the phone at all, allowing information to be viewed at a glance, so to speak.

Unfortunately this is a feature that was missing from the Nokia Lumia Icon and if you were hoping that the international variant, the recently announced Nokia Lumia 930, would be an exception and actually gain the feature, it looks like you will be disappointed to learn that it won’t. (more…)

Nokia Lumia 930 ups the ante yet again

lumia930When Nokia decided to go with the Windows Phone from Microsoft on an exclusive basis some years back, I am quite sure that there were a few folks out there who decided that the Finnish smartphone company (which has since been purchased by Microsoft) would meet its demise pretty quickly, considering what a behemoth iOS and Android were (and still are today) back then, not to mention BlackBerry in a pretty good shape then, too. Well, fortune has favored the Windows Phone platform, where it has overtaken BlackBerry in many markets now, and Nokia’s still at it with a growing reputation for their Windows Phone handsets. Their latest model to be revealed? The Nokia Lumia 930.

The Nokia Lumia 930 is said to blend the best of Microsoft and Lumia beautifully with a collection of features that have been incorporated in order to meet the needs of today’s forward-thinking smartphone owner. For starters, you will find that the 20-megapixel PureView camera which features optical image stabilization (OIS) and ZEISS optics are able to deliver pin-sharp shots and the flexibility to zoom into any shot right after you’ve taken it, while a front-facing HD 1.2 MP wide-angle camera would pave the way for great looking selfies, even if there is a bunch of you there.

A quartet of high performance microphones would also be able to make sure that your videos would sound great as though the viewer is there watching it live, while surround sound capture allows one to hear the world around you like never before. Integrated OIS would be able to counteract the shaky hand syndrome, and your eyes will not be disappointed by the 5” 1080p Full HD display (at 1920×1080 resolution and 441ppi) with Gorilla Glass 3, Super Sensitive Touch and a near 180-degree viewing angle.

Underneath the hood, you will find a speedy 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 32GB of internal memory (with 7GB of free OneDrive cloud storage) and 2GB RAM, ensuring that slowness in speed will not be an issue at all. The Nokia Lumia 930 will retail for $599 a pop as it arrives this June worldwide.
