Nokia Lumia 1520 From AT&T And Microsoft Could Be Delayed

Nokia Lumia 1520 From AT&T And Microsoft Could Be DelayedPlanning on getting the Nokia Lumia 1520? Well it turns out that if you pre-ordered it, your order might have been delayed, depending on when you placed it. This is according to reports, it seems that both AT&T and Microsoft’s online stores have sent out messages to customers who have placed their pre-orders for the Lumia 1520, informing them that due to overwhelming demand for the handset, the order might have been delayed.

According to the message, “Because of overwhelming demand, your Nokia Lumia 1520 order is delayed in shipping. As soon as your shipping label is printed, we’ll send you an email with the tracking information. You can also track your order on our site.” Unfortunately there was no mention as to how long the delay would be, so it looks like customers will just have to play the waiting game.

The handset was originally set for a release on the 22nd of November, the same day as the Microsoft Xbox One, but to make up for it, Microsoft has reportedly given customers a $25 promo code that they can use in the store towards their next purchase. Have any of our readers received similar messages as well? Let us know in the comments below!

Nokia Makes Snide Remark About BlackBerry On Twitter

Nokia Makes Snide Remark About BlackBerry On TwitterAs it stands both the BlackBerry and Windows Phone platform are duking it to secure the third spot in the smartphone market, and recently BlackBerry had posted an image on its Twitter page which reads, “If you don’t know who’s got one, you don’t know the right people,” presumably referring to ownership of BlackBerry phones. The message seemed innocent enough, until Nokia decided to respond on Twitter with a barb of their own, saying, “You don’t know who’s got one because everyone has made the #SwitchToLumia”.

Admittedly it does seem a little arrogant of Nokia to post such a response, but we can’t but agree. So far as far as making the news is concerned, BlackBerry has been making the headlines as a company that’s fighting to survive and has recently received a $1 billion injection from Fairfax Financial, as opposed to Nokia who has been coming out with some pretty impressive products, stealing market share, and was recently bought up by Microsoft for a whopping $7.17 billion. Of course who’s to say the situations won’t be reversed next year, or the year after, but what do you guys think? Does Nokia have the right to be this cocky about their position at the moment?

WhatsApp For Nokia Asha 501 Released

WhatsApp For Nokia Asha 501 Released

Its no secret that instant messaging applications have become quite popular than texting, because while the latter incurs charges, IM apps allow users to send messages around the world for virtually no cost at all. WhatsApp is one of the most widely used IM applications out there, and it is available for a number of platforms. Originally announced at Nokia World 2013 in Abu Dhabi, WhatsApp for Nokia Asha 501 has been released today.

Before users can install the app, they will need to install an over-the-air software update that starts rolling out this week. Without first installing the update WhatsApp for Asha 501 can not be downloaded on the device. When users log in for the first time, the app will automatically locate contacts who’re already using WhatsApp. The app can be used to send text messages, photos and videos as well as voice messages. Messages are either routed through the 2G cellular connection or through Wi-Fi. The app is available as a free download for Nokia Asha 501. The Asha 500, 502 and 503 phones, which were recently announced, will have WhatsApp pre-installed when they start selling in the coming weeks. The app opens up a whole new communication channel for Asha users, who will be able to communicate with friends and family even if they are on different phones made by different manufacturers.

Microsoft To Take Up Residence In Nokia House

Microsoft To Take Up Residence In Nokia House

Microsoft might have taken Nokia’s Devices and Services division as well as licensed some of its patents, it appears that the company will take up residence in Nokia House as well. The building housing Nokia’s headquarters in Espoo, Finland is known as Nokia House. Microsoft will move in by the end of March 2014. Since majority of Nokia’s employees at the House are involved in Devices and Services as well as other activities and support functions, Microsoft will simply take control of the site. Employees which aren’t going with the division sold to Microsoft will be relocated to another campus in Finland.

Employees working in Nokia management and support functions will be moved to Karaportii Midpoint, while some employees will be relocated to the Open Innovation House in Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland. Nokia’s headquarters for HERE and NSN, its location services and telecom equipment business respectively, will continue as normal. Nokia House has been an iconic structure in Espoo for a couple of decades now, the locals might feel sad to see that the company no longer lives there. Nokia owned the building at one point in time, but then sold it to an investment and management company called Exillion and leased Nokia House back from it.

    Nokia Lumia 1520 Review

You’re to blame for the vast Nokia Lumia 1520. “Make a phablet” we kept asking Nokia, “give us a big Windows Phone to compete with the Galaxy Note.” That Nokia – and Microsoft – went off to the drawing board and returned with a hand-dominating 6-inch monster is a juicy sort of irony, then: this […]

    Nokia Lumia 2520 Review

    Nokia Lumia 2520 Review

Back in October, Nokia announced its first Windows RT 8.1 tablet, the Lumia 2520, that would attempt to bring the very best the company has to offer from their line of impressive Windows Phone 8 smartphones to the Windows 8 tablet world. The Lumia 2520 is Nokia’s first foray into the 10.1-inch tablet market as it offers a 1080p IPS display featuring +Gorilla Glass 2 technology, a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a 6.7MP main camera with a Carl Zeiss lens that is capable of capturing video at 1080p at 60fps and a rather large 8000mAh battery. The Lumia 2520 also supports 4G LTE, which means if you have your own data plan for the tablet, you can use it while you’re on the go through your wireless carrier.

The Lumia 2520 reminded us of the Surface 2 when we first saw it as it looks to borrow some inspiration from Microsoft’s tablet, although Nokia certainly keeps the overall design and look of the tablet in line with its Lumia smartphones. With that said, let’s take a look and see just how the Lumia 2520 fairs as Nokia’s first 10.1-inch Windows RT 8.1 tablet. (more…)

Nokia Lumia 2520 review: a good Windows tablet, not the best for typing

Nokia Lumia 2520 review: a good Windows tablet, not the best for typing

The Lumia 2520 is Nokia’s first Windows tablet — and it may well be its last. By the time Nokia is ready to design a follow-up product, the Finnish firm might officially be a part of Microsoft. For now, though, the Lumia 2520 is about to go on sale worldwide under the Nokia brand, and will compete directly with Microsoft’s Surface 2, the only other Windows RT tablet available right now. Like the Surface, it’s a flagship-caliber device, with a 1080p screen and top-of-the-line processor. But whereas Microsoft sees the Surface as kind of a laptop/tablet hybrid — a real productivity device — the 2520 is, at its heart, just a tablet. The 2520 has no kickstand, no full-sized USB port — not unless you buy the optional keyboard cover, anyway.

Nokia also brought its A-game imaging wise, installing the same camera used on the Lumia 720 (hey, for a tablet that’s actually unprecedented). Additionally, there’s one other thing the 2520 has that the Surface 2 doesn’t: LTE. In fact, you can’t even get the 2520 as a WiFi-only device; you can either buy it unsubsidized for $499, or you can purchase it here in the US for $400 on-contract. So it definitely looks good on paper (and in press photos), but what’s it like to use? Turns out, it’s pretty nice.%Gallery-slideshow122333%

Lumia 2520 Review: Not Much More Than a Pretty Face

Lumia 2520 Review: Not Much More Than a Pretty Face

Up until now, pretty much your only option for a Windows RT tablet was the Surface 2. But now Nokia is giving you another choice, in the form of the Lumia 2520, a colorful line of tablets that look even larger versions of its rainbow phones.
