Nokia HERE Maps To Arrive Exclusively For Lumia Windows 8 Tablets

Nokia fans, if you’ve enjoyed the Finnish company’s offerings as far as software is concerned, such as with the company’s HERE Maps application, you’re in luck because it has been revealed that Nokia’s HERE Maps app will be making its way onto Windows 8. The downside though is that it appears, for now, that the app will be exclusive to Nokia’s Lumia tablet lineup, which at the moment comprises of the Lumia 2520 that was announced last month. However if the rumors are to be believed, we can look forward to a certain Lumia 2020 at MWC 2014 next year.

In any case the Lumia 2520 has yet to be released, but hopefully that will be soon, so for those considering the tablet, you’ll be pleased to learn that HERE Maps will be an exclusive for you guys, at least for the foreseeable future. Given that there are several Windows 8 tablets out there to choose from, undoubtedly this exclusivity is something worth considering when trying to make a selection. Similar to Google Maps where you can use it offline, HERE Maps allows the user to do the same thing where you can download maps ahead of time for the places you are planning to go. If you want to see HERE Maps on the Lumia 2520, be sure to check out the video above for the details.

Nokia Bringing Bluetooth 4.0 LE To Their Devices In Upcoming Lumia Black Update

Nokia Bringing Bluetooth 4.0 LE To Their Devices In Upcoming Lumia Black UpdateWhen Apple introduced the iPhone 4S, they brought along the Bluetooth 4.0 LE technology. Essentially this was Bluetooth but used less energy than its predecessor, making it ideal for accessories. In fact one of the criticisms Nike had about Android devices in general is that they had yet to adopt Bluetooth 4.0 LE across the board, hence the lack of FuelBand support for the platform. Well the good news for Windows Phone owners is that as far as Nokia users are concerned, Nokia has confirmed that Bluetooth 4.0 LE will be coming to its entire Lumia lineup in an upcoming firmware update that will come with recently announced Lumia 1520.

This was confirmed in an FAQ where it was asked if and when Bluetooth 4.0 would be arriving for Nokia devices. According to Nokia, “It is already available for 520, 620, 625, and 720 with Amber. With Lumia Black software update, Bluetooth LE will be enabled across the full WP8 Lumia range.” No word on when the Lumia Black update will hit all Lumia devices, but in the meantime we guess this is something worth looking forward to nonetheless. Will this wide adoption of Bluetooth 4.0 LE see Nike bring its FuelBand SE app onto Windows Phone devices?

Nokia Refocus App Released For Existing Lumia PureView Smartphones

Nokia Refocus App Released For Existing Lumia PureView Smartphones

At Nokia World last month, the company unveiled its Lumia 1520 smartphone and also showed off its new Refocus app. The app does what its name says, it allows users to take advantage of multiple levels of focus in one single image. Nokia has now released the Refocus app for existing Lumia PureView smartphones, which includes the Lumia 920, 925, 928 and the 1020.

The app has been designed for scenes with great contrast in the depth of field. To obtain the best results, users are advised to first focus on the object that’s closest to them. Once the closest object is in focus, tapping the screen starts the capture process which will take a few seconds, having a steady hand will definitely be a plus. Basically it captures 2-8 images depending upon what’s in view, each image is at five megapixels at a different focus, they’re all aligned and combined into a single image in which objects can be refocused. Tap any part of the finished image to shift focus on it. Color pop, a feature in the Nokia Creative Studio, has been added to the Refocus app. The feature allows users to retain color in the section they want to shift the focus to, while the rest of the image turns black and white, with contrast being slightly adjusted on the way.

Microsoft And Nokia Reportedly Testing Out Windows Phone 8.1 Internally

Microsoft And Nokia Reportedly Testing Out Windows Phone 8.1 InternallyWe have already heard whispers going around that since August, Microsoft has been testing out Windows Phone 8.1 internally, although information on such testing has been pretty much scant concerning the platform update itself. We already know that Windows desktops and tablets have already been on the receiving end of Windows 8.1 (aka Blue), but when it comes to the portable platform of Windows Phone 8, it has only seen the GDR3 update that has been geared in the direction of opening up new hardware setups rather than seeing the inclusion of additional software features.

Apart from that, the new leak also showed that there are multiple builds of the Windows Phone 8.1 software in testing, apart from it being internally tested as mentioned. This bit of evidence hails from the analytics information of the Facebook Pages Manager, where it depicted a minimum of eight different builds of Windows Phone 8.1 being tested. It remains unknown just who is using the FB Pages Manager exactly, or the kind of pages that are being managed at the moment. So far, it is expected for Windows Phone 8.1 to be released sometime in early 2014, where hope runs high for big software changes to be introduced to Windows Phone users, where among them include a Notification Center and Microsoft’s voice assistant that has been code-named Cortana.

Nokia Lumia 2520 Gets Support Videos

It was sometime late last month when the Nokia Lumia 2520 was first made official to the masses, showing the world that Nokia is far from finished as a hardware company which rolls out devices that run on the Windows Phone platform. Well, having heard of rumors concerning the Nokia Lumia 2520 that is pegged for a November 22nd launch, here we are with the official support videos for the tablet itself having hit YouTube.

There will be another support video of the Nokia Lumia 2520 shown right after the jump just in case you are interested in knowing more about the device. That particular video will depict the different parts of the device, sorta like a crash course of sorts, so to speak. Just so you know what is going on, the Nokia Lumia 2520 will go for sale in the US later this month, where it will cost you $499 a pop for the 32GB model that will also boast of LTE support. Any takers for the Nokia Lumia 2520? After all, it will run on an operating system that is far different from that of Android and iOS, which could prove to be an interesting alternative. After all, what is life without a little bit of risk on the side?

Nokia Lumia 1820 And Lumia 2020 Rumored For MWC 2014

Nokia Lumia 1820 And Lumia 2020 Rumored For MWC 2014Remember that day we reported on a list of Nokia codenames that had been leaked? Well according to new rumors, at least some of the devices might turn out to be true and they might be the Nokia Lumia 1820 (alleged render pictured above) and the Nokia Lumia 2020, although at this point in time we’re not sure what codenames these devices correspond with. This is according to the folks at NokiaPowerUser who claim to have gotten a tip on the upcoming devices, with the Lumia 1820 reportedly featuring a metal unibody (could this be the Spinel?) with a Lytro-like camera, while the Lumia 2020 is an 8” tablet that will trump the Lumia 2520 that was announced not too long ago.

According to them, the “Lumia 2020 will be the name of Nokia’s rumored 8-inch Tablet. This Tablet will run on Snapdragon 800 and will have a 1080p resolution display. It will be faster and have higher PPI display than Lumia 2520 and will come with stylus support. This Tablet and Nokia’s next imaging flagship Lumia 1820 with metal unibody and Lytro-style camera will be unveiled during MWC in 2014.” In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if the Lytro-like camera on the Lumia 1820 is true, it could be a pretty interesting device to look forward to. We will be live at MWC 2014 so be sure to check back with us then for the details!

32GB Lumia 1520 For AT&T Rumored To Arrive In The Near Future

32GB Lumia 1520 For AT&T Rumored To Arrive In The Near FutureThere is a drawback to buying the Nokia Lumia 1520 from AT&T, it would be that the phone will only come with 16GB of onboard storage, versus the 32GB of storage that Nokia promised during the official unveiling. Well the good news is that if you don’t mind waiting a little longer to get your hands on the device, word on the street has it that AT&T will eventually bring in the 32GB model, although as it stands it is unclear as to when exactly that will be. Nokia Power User’s source has informed them that it will happen in the “near future”, but once again specific dates are unknown.

Of course for some, 16GB is more than enough, but for those looking to furnish their phone with movies and music and games and more, we reckon it will be pretty darn easy to blow through 16GB in a short amount of time, that’s why 32GB might seem like a safer bet. In any case the Nokia Lumia 1520 is pegged for a release on the 22nd of November and those interested will be able to pre-order the device from the official Microsoft Store where it will be priced at $199 with a new 2-year contract with the carrier.

Nokia Codenames: Goldfinger, Moneypenny, Normandy, Phantom, Spinel Leaked

Nokia Codenames: Goldfinger, Moneypenny, Normandy, Phantom, Spinel LeakedIt has been widely believed that the range of devices Nokia unveiled during Nokia World at Abu Dhabi would be the last six devices the Finnish company would ever release, or at least until Microsoft finally acquires the company and drops the Nokia branding for good. Well the good news is that if you were looking forward to more Nokia devices in the near future, you might be in luck. According to the ever-reliable @evleaks, he has tweeted a bunch of codenames that are supposedly that of new Nokia devices, although at the moment not much is known about them but we guess these are names worth keeping an eye out for.

The leaked codenames include, Goldfinger, Moneypenny, Normandy, Phantom, and Spinel. Right of the bat the names Goldfinger and Moneypenny are recognizable as they allude to James Bond, and we have to wonder if there is any significance. More interesting would be Spinel, which according to its Wikipedia entry states that it is a magnesium and aluminum mineral, and given that Nokia has an aluminum phone in the form of the Lumia 925, we wouldn’t be surprised if they were to release another metal-clad device down the line. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more
