Over the past couple of weeks we have consistently heard that Nokia is going to unveil a new phablet soon. The phablet reportedly carries the “Bandit” codename, and is expected to be announced at Nokia World 2013, which takes place on October 22nd in Abu Dhabi, UAE. We’ve seen leaked images of the device and heard chatter about its specifications. The infamous Twitter based leaker, @evleaks, has now published major specifications of the Lumia 1520, believed to be the retail moniker of Bandit.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is said to have a 6 inch full 1080p HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor aided by 2GB of RAM, a 20 megapixel PureView rear camera and Qi wireless charging with cover. The phablet is said to be available in 16GB and 32GB flavors with black, white and yellow colors being offered. Information about pricing and availability has not been provided as yet. Though rumors suggest that Bandit will be first released on AT&T around November, which will be followed by a global roll out sometime in December. These release timeframes are based on rumors and there’s no confirmation if Nokia is going to adhere to them. Hopefully the company will clear up when we can expect to see Lumia 1520 “Bandit” in the market at its event next week.

Earlier this morning, we brought you the possibility of Nokia introducing a smartwatch to the masses in the future, thanks to a patent application which was published by the Patent and Trademark Office, where it described a modular timepiece so that the end user is able to customize it in a variety of ways. Well, before the day is over, how about some bit of interesting news concerning the alleged Nokia smartwatch? This particular update hails from a certain Kent Lyons, who is also one of the minds behind this device. He mentioned that this particular concept has been given the codename “Facet” for obvious reasons, where there is also a video of the prototype in action as you can see above.

It reminds me of one episode in the G-Force cartoon back when I was a kid, and the team of heroes had to battle a particular behemoth from the sea that had four different facets to its head, with the head being able to rotate 360 degrees, each “face” featuring a different energy beam that is shot out from its eyes. Microsoft as well as Nokia have both been doing their bit to promote the Nokia Lumia 1020, which is all well and good considering how that happens to be their flagship device. Heck, there has even been a special Windows commercial that was made for The Walking Dead TV show, but in terms of popularity, both the Nokia Lumia 520 as well as its sibling in the US, the Nokia Lumia 521, remain as the most widely used devices that run on the Windows Phone mobile operating system platform. The online ad network AdDuplex, which rolls out monthly reports on the Windows Phone devices which hook up to its service, earlier announced this week that the Nokia Lumia 521 happens to be the number one Windows Phone device in the US as it carries a 19.2% market share.

This would mean that the Nokia Lumia 521 has at long last, passed the previous number one device, which is the Verizon exclusive Lumia 822, while the Nokia Lumia 520 takes the position of seventh place on the list. In terms of the worldwide market share, however, the Nokia Lumia 520 continues to hold the lion’s share of the market where Windows Phone handsets are concerned. While Nokia has come out with some pretty interesting and amazing high-end phones, it seems that their specialty, whether intentional or not, would be their low-end devices which surprisingly have managed to gain a fair bit of ground in emerging markets despite there being plenty of alternatives. The Lumia 520 has managed to make a pretty good name for itself, and now it looks like the Lumia 625 could be the next big thing in India, at least that’s what the recent numbers released by AdDuplex seems to suggest.

According to the firm, the Lumia 625 was designed for the Indian market in mind but it did not take off the way it was supposed to, at least at the start. However a month after the handset was made available, the numbers have shown that the handset has managed to grab a pretty solid 3.1% of the Windows Phone market share in India. With its 3.1% market share, it has overtaken the higher-end Nokia Lumia 920 although we suspect it might be a while before it overtakes the Lumia 520, if at all. Of course with the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft looming ahead, we suspect there could be some customers who are holding off to see what Microsoft’s plans are first before committing to the brand and platform, but for now it looks like Nokia is holding their own.
