Earlier today, word surfaced that Nokia had developed an Android handset before the Microsoft acquisition negotiations began, and now new sources have appeared telling of a Microsoft Surface Phone handset. Reportedly, Microsoft had built multiple prototypes of its own Surface handset, something that ultimately never came to be. The sources spoke to the folks over […]
It’ll never happen now but the dream of beautifully brawny Nokia hardware loaded with dominating Android software was an idea that Nokia had been toying around with before Microsoft swooped in and bought Nokia’s phone business
Microsoft officially acquired Nokia’s devices group to improve the overall Windows Phone platform. The New York Times, however, hears from sources that the company may have had another incentive: Nokia had been testing Android on Lumia devices. The Finnish firm reportedly started experimenting with Android “well before” the deal, making it easier to switch platforms if the Microsoft partnership didn’t last beyond 2014. Nokia’s potential OS switch wasn’t mentioned in the acquisition discussions this year, according to one tipster. Even so, the sources claim that Microsoft’s executives knew of the project’s existence — they would have understood the consequences of losing Nokia’s support. Microsoft and Nokia have so far declined to comment on the rumor, but it’s clear that any Android-based Lumias are now consigned to the history books.

Just over a week has passed since Microsoft announced their acquisition of Nokia‘s phones division, and already insiders are suggesting that a Nokia Lumia Android device was not only a possibility, it was real. Two people briefed on the effort have let the New York Times know (anonymously) that Android had been “up and running” […]
Earlier today at the London O2 Arena, Nokia and Telefonica partnered to launch a 64GB variant of the handset maker’s Lumia 1020 camera phone, a handset sporting a high-resolution 41-megapixel camera on the back. To meet the presumed storage needs of consumers using the handset as a camera, Telefonica specified a variant with twice the […]
Nokia Lumia 1520 Rumored For Early November Release, Comes With 3,400mAh Battery
Posted in: Today's ChiliFor those interested in getting their hands on Nokia’s upcoming phablet, the Lumia 1520, you might have heard an earlier rumor that suggested that the device would be announced on the 26th of September at an event Nokia will be holding in New York City, but the next question is when will the handset be made available? Well according to the folks at Windows Phone Central, they claim to have learnt that the Lumia 1520 is expected to see a release early November and is expected to make its way onto AT&T’s network, although there was no mention of other carriers so it could be an AT&T exclusive.
It has been suggested that the November launch is because Windows Phone 8 GDR3 is not yet complete and ready for the masses, and to be honest an end of September release of the update does seem unlikely given that not all handsets have received the GDR2 update, so a November release would not be out of the question. Some additional specs of the handset has also been revealed and according to the reports, the Lumia 1520 is said to feature a 3,400mAh battery which makes it almost comparable to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with its 3,200mAh battery. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully more details will be revealed towards the end of September, so check back with us then for the details.

Remember the other day we reported on a Nokia Lumia 920 bought off Craigslist that came with the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 installed on it? Well if you’re wondering what the GDR3 update has in store for you but aren’t willing to wait for an official announcement, you’re in luck as the person who bought the phone, xs2k, has decided to put it back up for sale on eBay where it is currently up for bidding with about 2 days left on the clock. As it stands the bids have priced the device at $345, and we expect to see it go up in value towards the end of the auction, although exactly by how much remains unknown.
While this is hardly a lost iPhone in terms of “hotness”, the various features that the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update will bring to the table is definitely one that many are curious about. In fact if anything we’re surprised Microsoft and Nokia have not done something to prevent the sale of the phone which would help prevent any leaks about the upcoming update which could ruin the surprise. Either way if you’re interested in bidding, hit up the eBay listing for the details, but you best hurry before the auction ends or if Microsoft/Nokia attempt to put a stop to it.

Heads up Nokia fans, it looks like the Finnish company has decided to tweet a teaser message, informing us that they have a surprise for us come Friday the 13th! Yes it is a very ominous day if you believe in that, so we have to wonder what Nokia has in store for us?

It is unlikely that we could be looking at the Nokia Lumia 1520 as the device has been rumored for a 26th of September event, although some are speculating that perhaps it could be Nokia unveiling the dual-SIM Nokia Lumia 720, although that’s hardly a “surprise”. There are also other speculating that it could be in reference to the Nokia Lumia 925 which is expected to launch on AT&T, but once again that hardly qualifies as a surprise, right? Either way check back with us tomorrow if you’d like to see what the surprise is!

Time and again Nokia has been rumored to be working on a tablet. The company hasn’t detailed its tablet plans as yet, but it is believed that it might release a tablet later this year, which will possibly run Windows RT. Apparently the tablet is known by the “Sirius” codename inside the company. Nothing is official as yet, but a render and alleged specifications of Nokia’s tablet have leaked online.
The “Sirius” tablet apparently has a 10.1 inch IPS full 1080p HD display, a quadcore Qualcomm 8974 processor, 6.7 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and unique Nokia apps. Its said to weight 1.3 pounds and measure .35 inches thick. A multifunction cover with keyboard and additional battery life has also been rumored to launch alongside the tablet. According to the rumor this tablet will be priced at $499, that’s right into the iPad category. In the highly competitive market, many manufacturers have kept prices low so as to bring in more customers. Microsoft recently slashed the prices of its own Windows 8 tablets in what some believed to be a bid to increase sales. Since no official details about this product are available as yet, its too soon to speculate just how Nokia wants to distance itself from the competition.
