A collection of Windows 8 and Windows RT tablets have appeared this week courtesy of well-known Windows insider Paul Thurrott, this including the long-awaited Nokia slate. Posted in: Today's ChiliRumor has it that the super-sized 6-inch Lumia 1520 should see an official launch announcement on September 26th. Let’s wait and see!
Let’s face it — we can’t be sure Nokia’s Lumia 1020 is worth the hype until it’s taken a thousand shots of Big Ben and Westminster tube station. Fortunately for us, the PureView-toting handset is landing in the UK from today. We’ve managed to wrangle confirmation that Vodafone, Three and O2 will be selling the unit, but alas, EE currently has no plans to offer the handset to its million-strong LTE customer base. We suspect more than a few of you, disappointed at Cupertino’s latest imaging update, may be throwing your cash at the screen right now.

We’re sure there are a good many of you guys out there who are looking forward to seeing what the Nokia Lumia 1520 might have in store for us, and based on previous leaks and rumors, it has been suggested that the device could be unveiled towards the end of September where it will be announced alongside the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update which would basically allow the device, and future Windows Phone products, to sport quad-core processors and Full HD displays, just to name a few changes. Thanks to a tweet by @evleaks, he has revealed that the handset could be set for an announcement come 26th of September which is also the same day that Nokia has an event planned in New York City. Coincidence?

As a quick recap for those who might have missed out on the news, the Lumia 1520 is Nokia’s upcoming handset that will sport a phablet-like design. It will feature a 6” Full HD 1080p display, and will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core chipset under the hood. It is also rumored to come with 32GB of onboard storage, and a SD card slot for memory expansion, and will also come with a 20MP camera that will allow photographers to snap 5MP and 16MP images simultaneously. In any case we’re only a couple of weeks away from the event, so do check back with us then for the details!

Dual SIM Nokia Lumia 720 Rumored
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe Nokia Lumia 720 smartphone was announced back in February. Its a mid-range Windows Phone 8 device with decent hardware specifications. Rumor has it that the company might be developing a dual SIM version of the Lumia 720. The rumor comes from @evleaks, who has a solid track record with product rumors, he claims that this variant of the Lumia 720 “may be on the way.” At this point in time it is not known exactly when this variant will be released and if it is going to be exclusive to certain markets.
Dual SIM variants of many popular Android smartphones are manufactured, but most of them are sold in select markets only. That’s because there’s demand in those markets, as opposed to Western markets, when majority of the customers don’t opt for smartphones that are capable of running two SIMs simultaneously. The Nokia Lumia 720 has a 4.3 inch IPS ClearBlack WVGA display, a 1GHz dualcore Qualcomm processor with 512MB of RAM, a 2,000mAh battery, 8GB of on-board storage and support for microSD cards. The smartphone also has a six megapixel rear camera and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. If a dual-SIM version is being developed, its unlikely that the specs will be bumped, though the price might be nominally higher.

Nokia DT-601 And DC-19 Chargers
Posted in: Today's ChiliYour smartphone is not going to be very smart whenever it runs out of juice, which is why it makes perfect sense for you to charge it to the maximum every single night when you sleep, so that you have a fully functional device the next morning. Having said that, Nokia intends to bring a new wireless charger known as the DT-601 to the table alongside a new portable USB charger which is called the DC-19. The Nokia DT-601 is more or less similar to its predecessor, the DT-900, in terms of functionality, but it has one distinct advantage – it is smaller, lighter, easier to tote around and of course, more affordable. In all, it measures 65mm in diameter and is under 9mm thick. Not only that, the DT-601 would also be Qi compatible, so it will play nice with all current wireless charging products from Nokia as well as other manufacturers who play nice with Qi.
As for the DC-19, it is but a universal portable USB charger that is compact and can be easily “summoned” into action, packing in a 3,200-mAh battery with a stand-by time of the DC-19 of more than six months when fully charged. The Nokia DT-601 is tipped to retail for €29 a pop, while the Nokia DC-19 will cost you a similar price point, too. [Press Release]

When Microsoft announced their plans to acquire Nokia, it was pretty sudden and surprising, given that Nokia wasn’t exactly a struggling company, but we guess it sort of makes sense since Microsoft and Nokia have a pretty tight relationship, partly in thanks to Nokia’s then-CEO, Stephen Elop. So with the acquisition underway, how do some of the major carriers feel about the deal? Is this a good sign of things to come for the Windows Phone platform, or are they skeptical? Surprisingly for the most part, carriers (and OEMs) were supportive of the deal.
Speaking to FierceWireless, AT&T Mobility President and CEO, Ralph de la Vega, was quoted as saying, “I’m excited to see that happen and I hope it accelerates the adoption of Microsoft Windows, which I think is a great operating system and this combination makes it better.” Steve Elfman, president of network operations and wholesale at Sprint, was enthusiastic about the deal as well, stating that he hopes Windows Phone will be able to achieve at least 10% of the market with this acquisition and with Microsoft’s backing. What do you guys think? Will the Windows Phone platform be stronger than ever because of this?

We have been hearing a lot about the upcoming Nokia Lumia 1520, and we have seen leaked photos as well as leaked screenshots. The handset is expected to be announced in the near future and one of the carriers in the US expected to offer the device could be AT&T where the handset has been codenamed “Beastie” (versus Bandit). Thanks to a tweet by Tom Warren, a photo of the device destined for AT&T’s network has been made available, and while for the most part the handset appears to be pretty similar to the previous leaks, one small difference would be the 3 contact points shown on the back of the device towards the bottom.

The contact points are indication that the upcoming Lumia 1520 is expected to be compatible with the wireless charging shells that Nokia’s other Lumia devices have supported. Wireless charging is one of the features that Nokia has embraced and brought to their Lumia devices, and have even released accessories that would support said feature, and have even partnered up with cafes to offer wireless charging while you enjoy a cup of coffee. What do you guys think? Anyone interested in wireless charging with their Nokia phablet?

Earlier today the iPhone 5C was announced and just like the leaks, the official device was shown off in a myriad of colors. However when one thinks of phones with bright colors, one might think of Nokia, and Nokia knows that and has since released an ad on its Facebook page (and their Twitter account) mocking the new iPhone 5C. As you can see in the picture above, Nokia basically showed off their range of colorful Nokia Lumia Windows Phone devices, with the tag line that reads, “Imitation is the best form of flattery”, a motto Apple should probably live by instead of suing Samsung and vice versa.
Either way this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Nokia take a jab at the competition, although their ads are becoming increasingly clever and funny. What do you guys think? Did Apple really just take a leaf out of Nokia’s playbook with the colorful iPhone 5C devices? The iPhone 5C is expected to go on sale come 20th of September in selected markets at the start, and will be available for pre-order beginning on the 13th of September.
Thanks, #Apple

Self-driving cars stand to be the next piece of technology that shakes the foundations of modern life. It’s not hard to see why—it’s basically science fiction come to life. Since it seems like everybody wants to be involved, news that Mercedes and Nokia were teaming up didn’t come as a huge surprise.
