Nokia Teases HERE Announcement For Vehicles

Nokia Teases HERE Announcement For VehiclesNokia might be known as a manufacturer of phones, but they also dabble in other businesses as well, such as providing location services based on their HERE platform that provides maps, driving information, and even transit information for those taking public transportation. In a recent blog post by Nokia Conversations, it looks like the Finnish company might have something to announce tomorrow that could be car-related, as the photo above seems to suggest.

This isn’t a complete surprise as back in September last year, Nokia did sign deals with car manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai, and the Volkswagen Group, not to mention a recent interview with GigaOM has revealed some possibilities of Nokia HERE in vehicles. This includes how the platform could be used to help drivers determine the most efficient route for gas consumption, traffic, distance and more. Sounds like a great idea but exactly how deep of an integration are we looking at? Well we guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Nokia is expected to make the announcement at 9am GMT tomorrow, so check back with us then for the details.

Nokia’s giant Lumia 1520 reportedly poses for the camera

Nokia's giant Lumia 1520 reportedly poses for the camera with a custom case

Rumors are circulating that Nokia’s first extra-large smartphone, possibly called the Lumia 1520, is near launch. If it’s real, you might be looking at it — Windows Phone Central has obtained a photo that purportedly shows the device for the first time. The snapshot presents a behemoth that makes even the Lumia 1020 look dainty. Unfortunately, there’s little to corroborate claims that a quad-core processor, a 20-megapixel camera and Windows Phone 8 GDR3 lurk inside. We’ve also seen a previous fake that looks like this, although the new phone’s bezel both matches that from a July part rumor and carries the prototype stamp common to Nokia test units. When there’s talk of Nokia unveiling the 1520 in late September alongside a Windows tablet, we may learn the truth behind the photo within a few weeks.

Nokia announces the 515, an aluminum Series 40 phone for $150

Nokia 515 is an aluminum Series 40 phone for $150

Do you have a hankering for an elegant featurephone but disappointed by the lack of attention the market pays to your particular demographic? Nokia’s here to rescue you with the 515, a candybar Series 40 handset which has a chassis crafted with anodized aluminum, a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD panel covered with Gorilla Glass 2 and a keypad that features a new type of polycarbonate resin. The device measures 11mm thick and offers a 5MP rear camera with LED flash, 256MB internal storage, microSD support up to 32GB, Bluetooth 3.0, HD Voice and USB tethering, and will begin its global rollout next month in Russia, Germany, Switzerland and Poland. It has dualband HSDPA (900 / 2100) and quadband GSM / EDGE and will come in both single and dual-SIM flavors. The suggested retail price for such a package? 115 EUR ($150), which makes it more expensive than most Asha phones and featurephones currently on the market. It’s interesting to see Nokia push pricier models with a premium feel, but if there are plenty of places in which this kind of phone is wanted and encouraged, why deprive consumers?

    Nokia 515 Announced

Nokia might not be the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world at the moment, but this does not mean that they are down and out for the count. On the contrary, they happen to be the largest proponent of the Windows Phone 8 platform, with a slew of devices from them having made quite a mark so far. Well, here we are with a featurephone instead of a smartphone from the Finnish manufacturers this time around, where it boasts a body which has been carved out of a single piece of anodized and sandblasted aluminum, where the display is made out of a gently-curved and polarized Gorilla Glass 2, while the keyboard itself is constructed from hardened polycarbonate resin.

What kind of hardware does the Nokia 515 feature? It will come with a 2.4″ QVGA display, sporting a 5-megapixel camera complete with voice-activated self portraits, while a microSD card slot will be able to support additional memory. Arriving in a single SIM device, it will also come with a dual SIM option, while the battery has been said to last for up to 38 days on a single charge – in standby mode, of course, but we know that this is never going to be the case. Expect the Nokia 515 to ship sometime in Q3 this year with prices starting from approximately €115/$149. [Press Release]
