Nokia Lumia 625 official: a 4.7-inch Windows Phone with LTE, coming this September for 220 euros (hands-on)

The rumors were true. Nokia’s revealed its biggest phone to date, with a screen measuring in at 4.7 inches. It’s the Lumia 625, and it joins a series that has grown a fair bit since the Lumia 620 launched earlier this year. Compared to that earlier phone, the 625 keeps the same resolution (a slightly pixelated 800 x 480), but bumps the processing power up to a dual-core Snapdragon S4. Despite that hulking LCD screen, however, it’s still thinner than the Lumia 920 at 9.15mm (0.36 inches). It’s a Nokia smartphone, so there are plenty of HSPA radio gadgetry to keep the global fanbase happy. What’s more — and this is rare for an entry-level Lumia — it also has LTE. Specifically, we’re looking at the British EE-friendly Band 3 option here, alongside Bands 7 and 10.

If there’s anything to remind us that this is no flagship device, it’s the camera. Don’t expect any 41-megapixel sensors. In fact, get ready to be a little underwhelmed by a 5-megapixel camera module, although you’ll still get the likes of the animated gif-making Cinemagraph and the same Smart Camera app seen on the Lumia 925. You’ll have 8GB of internal memory to fill with your best photo moments, and there’s also a microSD slot behind the removable back. Meanwhile, customization options include orange, green, yellow, white and black cases, although there’s no turquoise shade like we saw on the Lumia 620. It’s headed to EE, Vodafone, O2, Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse in early September, priced at £200 or 220 euros for continental Europeans. Find our hands-on impressions (and a video!) right after the break.

Nokia Lumia 520 unveiled as first 4G Windows Phone AT&T GoPhone offering

Subscribers on AT&T‘s prepaid service GoPhone will have access to their first Windows Phone device, a Nokia Lumia 520, on July 26, according to an announcement the carrier made today. The handset is able to be used on the carrier’s expansive 4G network, and comes with a relatively budget-friendly price tag of $99.99 USD.

The Nokia Lumia 520 features a 4-inch IPS display with a WVGA resolution. Inside, users will find a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor running at 1GHz alongside 512MB of RAM. There’s 8GB of internal storage space, which can be expanded via the microSD card slot. There’s also a 5-megapixel camera around back.

AT&T goes on to push the camera feature a bit, which includes a few features like Cinemagraph for adding motion to images, super-wide-angle capture, and Smart Shoot, which snaps five images and, after the user selects certain elements out of each, combines them into a single group shot. Unfortunately, as we noted in our review, there is no LED flash.

As far as connectivity goes, there’s 4G as noted above, with dual-band HSDPA up to 21.2Mbps download and 5.7Mbps upload. In addition, users will find Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi b/g/n. There’s no NFC, and unfortunately no means for wireless charging either, neither of which is surprising given the price of the handset.

AT&T’s Senior Vice President of Devices, Jeff Bradley, said: “We are excited to launch the first 4G Windows Phone 8 smartphone in our GoPhone portfolio. A diverse device ecosystem benefits everyone, and the addition of an affordable Windows device gives our customers yet another choice that fits their needs.”

Nokia Lumia 625 leaked, suggests 4.7-inch display, 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 5-megapixel cam and LTE (update)

DNP Nokia Lumia 625 leaked, suggests 47inch display, 12GHz dualcore processor and 5megapixel rear camera

It looks like that “Something Big” that Nokia was hinting about earlier this morning might turn out to be the Nokia Lumia 625, if this leak by Finnish publication Puhelinvertailu is to be believed. The specs appear to match what was revealed a few days ago on China’s certification site; it’ll apparently sport a 4.7-inch Gorilla Glass 2 IPS WVGA (800 x 480) LCD, a 1.2-GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB RAM and a 2,000mAh battery. The leak also hints at a rear 5-megapixel camera with 1080p recording, a front-facing VGA shooter, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and interestingly, an LTE variant with support for European bands (though we wouldn’t rule out North American support later down the line). It’s difficult to say exactly how the phone will actually look like up close, however, so it’s a good thing we’ll be up bright and early tomorrow at 9am UK time (4am Eastern) to see Nokia’s unveiling.

Update: An additional image of the alleged Nokia Lumia 625, which we’ve embedded after the break, has just surfaced on @evleaks’ Twitter feed. Unfortunately, this latest render tell us nothing new about the handset apart from Nokia’s continued design practice of colorful polycarbonate shells.

Update 2: @evleaks isn’t done posting Lumia 625 pics just yet apparently, as he’s just tweeted yet another render of Nokia’s latest, but this time in a cascading arrangement. You can take a look at it after the break.

Update 3: Yep, there’s another one.

Nokia Lumia 520 comes to AT&T GoPhone on July 26th for $100 off-contract

Nokia Lumia 520 comes to AT&T GoPhone on July 26th

Want a cheap gateway to the world of Windows Phone? In the US, it won’t get much cheaper than AT&T’s new version of the Lumia 520. Nokia’s starter device will cost just $100 contract-free when it hits AT&T’s GoPhone prepaid service on July 26th — that’s $50 less than T-Mobile’s already inexpensive Lumia 521. There won’t be LTE support or other frills, but we suspect that many customers won’t mind at this price.

Nokia Lumia 520 Is First Windows Phone In AT&T GoPhone Portfolio

Nokia teases “something BIG”, likely Lumia 625 [UPDATE]

It would appear that the fabled Nokia Lumia upgrade (larger than the Lumia 925, that is) may be just around the corner as the company itself suggests “something BIG” is on the way. With nothing more than a single NOKIA logo on orange and a teaser ringing up with “we can’t tell you what it is yet”, it certainly could be something we’ve never heard of or seen before. But with the device itself appearing in China through radio certification just last week, you’ll be keen to bet on it.

UPDATE: Yeah that’s pretty much a lock.

This machine works with a rather sizable 4.7-inch display with WVGA resolution – not the most fabulously sharp in the world, but certainly well enough to do the job. Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor running with 512MB of RAM. Starting to see a trend here?

What you’re seeing is a slightly less powerful than usual collection of specifications, likely aiming this machine squarely at a – believe it or not – mid-tier or even budget-friendly crowd. Saving cash on a display that’s not nearly as sharp as those on the Samsung Galaxy S 4 or HTC One, coming in with a processor that’s not quite as powerful as the one found on the LG-made Nexus 4, this device may very well be attempting to hit the public with its unique abilities like Nokia’s ClearBlack Display technology – touch even when you’ve got gloves on!

nokia_lumia_625_rm-941_comparison

This device appeared in US FCC listings earlier this year with far less fanfare under the name RM-941 – so even though it’s got a 5 megapixel camera at its back and a mere VGA-style camera at its front, this beast could very well be hitting the whole of China and the USA sooner than later.

Could you see yourself picking up this relatively massive 133.2 x 72.2 x 10.5 mm device when you’ve already got the 925 and – soon – the Lumia 1020 appearing as well? We’ll know what it’s all about tomorrow!
