Nokia has released a somewhat misleading commercial having a go at a tablet that could be interpreted as an Apple iPad while touting its own, new Lumia 2520 tablet. The ad focuses on the competitor tablet’s lack of a keyboard and allegedly shorter battery life. The problem with the ad is that it fails to […]

For long Nokia was rumored to be working on a tablet. Earlier this week the Finnish manufacturer finally unveiled its first tablet, the Nokia Lumia 2520. Despite the fact that it is currently under the process of being acquired by Microsoft, Nokia’s new tablet puts it in direct competition with Redmond’s new offering, the Surface 2. We’ve no doubt been wondering exactly how both tablets stack up against each other and Raj Talluri, SVP of product management at Qualcomm presents an interesting perspective. He believes that “its not even really a contest,” between the Lumia 2520 and Surface 2 when it comes to performance.
Obviously one can expect Talluri’s perspective to lean a bit towards the Lumia 2520, considering the fact that it is powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor whereas Microsoft opted for a 1.7GHz NVIDIA Tegra 4 for the Surface 2. Talluri says that performance on Nokia’s new tablet is “brilliant,” and that there’s no contest with the Surface 2 “in every area.” Both tablets are powered by Windows RT 8.1. We’ve can’t really have a side-by-side comparison of the performance of both tablets until they’re both available, to really see which one stands out. Microsoft released the Surface 2 on October 22nd, but we’ll have to wait for the Lumia 2520, as Nokia has still not provided a concrete release date for its new tablet.

Tablets are a positively growing market, where it has also managed to send the netbook market into oblivion along the way. While Android and iOS mobile operating systems happen to be the two mainstream choices when it comes to tablets, Microsoft wants a slice of the action, too. Nokia, having been purchased by Microsoft not too long ago, has been a staunch supporter of the Windows platform for some time now, and they have just introduced the Nokia Lumia 2520 which will run on Windows RT 8.1.
Measuring 8.9mm thick and tipping the scales at slightly more than a pound, the Nokia Lumia 2520 will feature a Full HD 10.1” screen that was constructed out of Gorilla Glass 2 for additional toughness. Apart from that, it was manufactured in such a way to reduce the amount of reflection compared to its competitors, while accompanied by a superior brightness range that ought to let you view your content easily regardless of the lighting around.
4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity would make sure that you will remain connected always , regardless of where you are. Running on Windows RT 8.1, the Nokia Lumia 2520 will feature 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory that can be expanded via a microSD memory card slot, SkyDrive cloud storage, a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a 6.7-megapixel Auto Focus ZEISS optics with f1.9 aperture, and a massive 8,000 mAh to keep it going throughout the day.
Of course, what is the whole point of a tablet if it cannot last you throughout the day? The Lumia 2520 is no slouch when it comes to performance, as it sports a battery that can play a video for ten hours non-stop, without requiring a charge. This would get you far enough on long flights, especially if you are not on a plane with a power socket by the side. The battery itself also offers a quick start thanks to its ultra-fast charging time, allowing it to go from zero to 80% charged in just an hour.
