Notion Ink Adam II Tablet Goes On Sale In India First

Notion Ink Adam II Tablet Goes On Sale In India FirstA sequel to a movie does not necessarily mean that it will be raking in the big bucks. No sir, it might prove to be a bomb, or even more successful than its predecessor, as we have seen examples of both in the past. Well, the Notion Ink Adam II has just been released over in India for sale, before it will be heading towards the other countries some time down the road. The original Notion Ink Adam tablet was first introduced to the masses a couple of years back, and this time around, it will feature an interesting 100 x 5 monochrome ticker-tape display which will be able to deliver notifications along the device’s spine, or edges, depending on what you call it.

Other than that, this bad boy will feature a dual-core 1.5GHz Cortex A9 processor, a 10.1-inch 1,280 x 800 IPS LCD display, 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean as the mobile operating system of choice. Apparently, there will be two different variants available at launch, where one will be a Wi-Fi only model, while the other is the 3G capable model.

Notion Ink Adam II EVE Concept Phone And Tablet Accessories Spotted

Notion Ink does seem to be toying around with the idea of a smartphone concept, where they have called it the EVE smartphone. That is a very apt name to go alongside the Adam II tablet, although it would have […]

Notion Ink renders show Adam II, accessories and EVE smartphone

Notion Ink‘s been teasing the Adam II for well over a year now, and while the first generation left us cold, we’re curious to see what the second attempt brings to the table. A series of renders recently surfaced that allegedly show the Android tablet, its accessories / packaging and a companion smartphone concept named EVE. It’s unclear if the images — which have since been pulled — are legitimate, but the design appears to match previous leaks. The accessories include a collapsible docking station, USB charger, stylus and dual-tone leather carrying case. What’s most intriguing, however, is the EVE smartphone which also runs Android and features a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen along with a secondary display mounted on its spine, just like the Adam II. Check out the gallery below for the complete set of pictures.

Notion Ink Adam II tablet, packaging, and dock revealed in slew of images

We saw Notion Ink‘s Adam II tablet in a blurry teaser image that was released back in November, giving us precious few details. This was followed up in May with official details being dropped, as well as another look at the slate. Now we’re getting a better look at the device thanks to a slew of leaked images of the Adam II tablet, as well as its power cable, dock, and packaging. While the page on Behance where it was leaked has since been pulled, we’ve got a gallery of them for you after the break.

The images cover the whole gamut, ranging from the Adam II tablet to the dock and the tablet in the dock, to the packaging and the power cable and adapter. One image shows off the covers for the slate, and another features the stylus, revealing a type of stucco rubber grip. A couple diagrams are thrown in as well of both the power adapter and the packaging.

Some of the images are annotated with ribbons of information, and in them we see, for example, the dual tone leather cover for the tablet. The cover has a smooth finish and a magnetic locking strap, with the outside finish being “smooth” and the inside material listed as plastic. There will be three color options: Cerulean Blue & Smokey Grey, Coal Black & Burnt Umber, and Coal Black & Smokey Grey.

The stylus is designed with a “tapered angular profile,” which – in addition to the rubber grip – is meant to make it easy to handle and to help avoid drops. And then there’s the dock, which can be folded up into what looks like an easy to transport rectangle, with it forming a tri-shape when opened. There’s a shot of the tablet within the dock, as well.

Per the official specifications that were released in May, the Adam II will feature a 10.1-inch IPS display, as well as a secondary black and white display on the side, a change up over the original Adam. The resolution is 1280 x 800. Inside, users will find a 1.5GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, as well as 1GB of RAM. The software is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Other specs include Bluetooth, a 6000mAh battery with a reported life of 10 hours on a charge, and a rear/front camera at 2-megapixels. Price hasn’t been revealed yet, but reports have surfaced saying the previously rumored $220 tag was wrong.

Notion Ink Adam II tablet official specs revealed

It’s been several months since we’ve heard anything about the Notion Ink Adam II tablet. Last time we talked about tablet was in November of 2012 when that single blurry official photograph surfaced. If that tablet intrigued you, Notion Ink has now offered up all of the official specifications for the Adam II.

    adam-ii

The Adam II features a 10.1-inch screen and is cheaper, better performing, and has a secondary black and white display on the side that the original Adam tablet lacked. The resolution of that 10.1-inch screen is 1280 x 800 and it uses IPS technology. The secondary black and white screen on the side is a LCD display and is used for notifications.

The heart of the tablet is a 1.5 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor. The tablet runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for the operating system. The dual core processor is paired with 1 GB of RAM and the tablet has integrated Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth.

Other features include a front camera and a rear camera, both with two-megapixel resolution. The internal battery has 6000 mAh of power promising 10 hours of battery life per charge. Rumors originally tipped the price for the Adam II to be $220.

However, reports have now indicated that the rumored $220 price is incorrect. Official pricing hasn’t been announced at this time. This tablet is expected to be a reasonably priced offering since the only thing out of the ordinary is that additional LCD display for notifications. I can’t see that secondary display driving the price up significantly from the originally rumored $220. There is no official launch date announced at this time.

Notion Ink Adam II teased at India’s National Technology Awards (updated)

Notion Ink Adam II teased at India's National Technology Awards, reportedly priced at $218

Remember the Notion Ink Adam? We’ll forgive you if you don’t — the device fell a bit short of expectations, and news of its successor has been scarce. Save for a few teasing tweets, Notion Ink has kept the project pretty close to its chest. That changed this weekend, however, when the tablet’s price and specifications were announced at India’s National Technology Awards. According to the press release (after the break) and a pamphlet reportedly given to attendees, the Adam II will sell for 12,000 Indian Rupees (about $217) later this year, packing in a 1.5GHz Dual-Core ARM Cortex CPU, twin 2-megapixel cameras, 1GB RAM and up to 10 hours of battery life.

The tablet also boasts a secondary screen, albeit a small one: a monochrome ticker that displays Android notifications on the Adam’s book-like spine. HDMI, headphone and micro-USB ports crowd the device’s adjacent edges, which wrap around a 10.1-inch 1,280 x 800 IPS display — a concession that was apparently made to increase longevity. Local and international availability was sadly left out of the announcements, but it’s nice to finally see this project gain some steam.

Update: Notion Ink has reached out to let us know that the 12,000 rupee price cited in the PR is incorrect. We’ve asked the company to clarify the pricing and will let you know if we hear back.

Notion Ink Adam II teased in official blurry photo

Today we’ve got our first vision of the next-generation tablet breaking away from the original Notion Ink Adam in one very blurry photo. This photo was taken by none other than the official Notion Ink team and posted to their twitter, appearing here to be a rather forward-thinking machine with little more than a white back and a silver metallic border. If the original Adam is any indicator of the possible success of the second, we’ll again be seeing a rather enticing-looking device released halfway through 2013 with specifications from 2010 and tech support from 1998.

Though the hardware does look nice and thin, the logo rather nice as well, we must remind you, the consumer, that the first unit had more than its fair share of drawbacks. It was made rather clear by the creators of the original Adam that they wanted to portray themselves as a forward-thinking tablet-making company, but did not follow through with support for those that purchased a unit in the end. In short: buy at your own risk.

Check the post Notion Ink Battles Insinuations of Unevenly Bright Screens, Broken Cameras, Customer Service Stalls to see the full story. SlashGear has had one-on-one discussions with many dissatisfied customers as well as the designer of the Adam logo you see on this device – this designer was never paid for his work, nor were any of the participants in the original logo creation contest compensated for their efforts.

Be sure also to check the post “Notion Ink Customer Service Purposely Stalling Past 7 Day Return Period?” over on Android Community to see exactly what users were dealing with on the first release. We must hope that the folks behind this second unit show a more responsible approach this time around. Stay tuned for more as this next generation Adam II becomes more real!
