5G service demonstration coming from NTT DoCoMo at CEATEC in October

There are still many places in the US that don’t have full 4G coverage when it comes to mobile data networks. Some in the US and around the world still lack consistent 4G coverage, and NTT DoCoMo is set to show off its next-generation 5G service at CEATEC in Japan next month. There is no […]

NTT DOCOMO To Offer iPhones Starting This Fall

NTT DOCOMO To Offer iPhones Starting This FallIn Japan, only two carriers offer the iPhone, and they are KDDI and SoftBank. NTT DOCOMO, while being Japan’s largest carrier, has held off from offering the iPhone officially, at least until now where Yahoo Japan has reported that the carrier has finally signed a deal with Apple to sell the iPhone on its network, with the first iPhones expected to arrive this fall, presumably that of the iPhone 5S and maybe even the iPhone 5C. This follows reports that the carrier started to bleed subscribers due to them not offering the iPhone, and there have also been talks that the carrier and Apple were negotiating a deal.

In the past one of the reasons NTT DOCOMO held off from offering the iPhone is because of the obligations that they would have to Apple if they were to do so. The carrier also wanted to preload apps onto the iPhone, which is a big no-no to Apple as they want to offer users “clean” experience, compared to Android devices which typically comes preloaded with apps from carriers, also known as bloatware. In any case with Apple signing a deal with Japan’s largest carrier, and also with China’s largest carrier rumored to begin taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5C, it looks like Apple will be able to reach out to an even wider audience.

NTT DOCOMO Reported To Officially Sell The iPhone On Their Network This Year

NTT DOCOMO Reported To Officially Sell The iPhone On Their Network This YearWhile NTT DOCOMO might be Japan’s largest carrier, if there’s one thing that they do not have that their competitors do, is Apple’s iPhone, and because of that there have been reports that they are losing subscribers to the competition. Last we heard despite the carrier bleeding subscribers, they weren’t too eager to get the iPhone on their network due to the string of conditions that comes with it, but now it looks like the carrier might have a change of heart. Shares of the carrier have been on the rise following a rumor that NTT DOCOMO is set to get the iPhone on their network later this year.

According to the article at Sankei, “A new iPhone from Apple is expected in September.  The Japanese market are paying close attention to whether NTT docomo will be selling the new model or not.  Having sold two other models as their main phones in the past summer season, the company is ready, as the vice-president Kazuto Tsubouchi has commented “the only problem is WHEN we are going to sell it.” Assuming that this is true, Apple could be closing deals with some pretty large carriers, as last we heard Apple was in talks with China Mobile about selling the iPhone as well.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Dropped By Japan’s NTT DOCOMO Due To Poor Sales

Samsung Galaxy S4 Dropped By Japans NTT DOCOMO Due To Poor SalesJapan’s NTT DOCOMO is currently said to be losing subscribers due to them not offering the iPhone in an official capacity, and recent reports have suggested that the carrier is not too eager to bring the phone onto their network due to the conditions that Apple typically asks of its carrier partners. However it seems that not only does the carrier not offer the iPhone, it seems that they will no longer be offering the Samsung Galaxy S4 as well and have dropped the phone from their portfolio in favor of Sharp’s range of handsets.

Interestingly it seems that the reason behind this is because the Samsung Galaxy S4 has not been selling well during the Japan summer, a bit odd given how popular the handset has proven to be, although we guess perhaps in Japan, their customers might favor local companies such as Sharp, Fujitsu, and Sony whose Xperia A proved to be a much better seller on NTT DOCOMO’s network compared to the Galaxy S4. In any case by dropping the Samsung Galaxy S4 from their lineup, it would make the carrier’s winter lineup an all-Japanese one. We guess Samsung shouldn’t take this too personally, after all at least they managed to sell some units compared to the iPhone which wasn’t even offered to begin with.

NTT DoCoMo’s prototype breathalyzer knows if you’re burning fat, could toughen-up boot camp

Prototype breathalyzer knows if you're burning fat, could toughenup boot camp

Next time you’re back from a run, questioning whether it’s been worth the agony effort, you might actually be able to find out for sure. Well, perhaps not the next time, but soon, thanks to a prototype breathalyzer developed by NTT DoCoMo that promises to instantly let you know whether your body is currently burning fat. We’ve seen the device before, but a recently published journal on its latest test results brings it one step closer to reality. The handheld unit uses gas and pressure sensors to monitor levels of acetone — a substance created during fat burning, partly expelled via the lungs — in the breath, and can display fat burning potential on a phone via bluetooth (or cable). The creators tested the prototype on a small group, and found that those who didn’t diet or exercise, or did light exercise only, didn’t show signs of fat burning, but those that watched what they ate, and upped activity did — boosting hopes of its real-world use. No word on commercial availability just yet, but we’re already wondering if it might up the ante on our potential second income.

NTT DoCoMo outs Raku-Raku F-09E smartphone for ‘beginners’

NTT DoCoMo outs Raku-Raku F-09E smartphone for 'beginners'

It’s been more than a year since NTT DoCoMo unveiled its F-12D Raku-Raku handset, so it’s only natural the company would follow up with a successor in 2013. The Japanese firm just introduced the F-09E, an easy-to-use, Android-based device tailored for folks looking to get their feet wet on the smartphone craze. Hardware-wise, this Fujitsu-made, 4.3-inch (qHD) F12-D will be running Android 4.2.2, while a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600, 2GB RAM, 16GB of built-in storage and a 2,100mAh battery round out the spec list. Don’t get too attached to what’s under the hood, though: NTT DoCoMo notes the new member of the Raku-Raku family is still in development and things could change by the time it launches, sometime in “between late September and early October.”

NTT docomo - HATSUNE MIKU AR STAGE - Roppongi Hills is transformed into the Hatsune Miku outdoor concert venue for 5 days

To celebrate the release of the Hatsune Miku collaborated Xperia smartphone “Xperia feat. HATSUNE MIKU SO-04E” from NTT docomo, for a limited time, Metro Hat (one of the buildings at Roppongi Hills in Tokyo), has been transformed into the Hatsune Miku outdoor concert venue.

“HATSUNE MIKU AR STAGE” takes place only from July 16 to July 21, from 19:30 to 23:00 every day for 5 days.

We were invited to a press event on launch day but there were already a lot of fans of hers who came to be part of her concert. Many of them just looked like regular salarymen, but they took off their business shirts to reveal their Hatsune Miku fan T-shirts! I was able to see that she has attracted so many fans!

According to NTT docomo staff, “HATSUNE MIKU AR STAGE” is the biggest outdoor AR event in Japan. Hold an Android device over the exterior wall of Metro Hat, and then the wall opens, Hatsune Miku appears from the inside and starts dancing and singing to the special song “Packaged”. The first 1,500 people joining the event are able to download the song.

Before watching the event, make sure you have the dedicated AR application installed on your Android device and run it. If you don’t have an Android device, you can borrow one at the venue.
