NVIDIA’s Tesla GPUs are already mainstays in supercomputers that need specialized processing power, and they’re becoming even more important now that the company is launching its first Tesla built for large-scale projects. The new K40 accelerator only has 192 more processing cores than its K20x ancestor (2,880, like the GeForce GTX 780 Ti), but it crunches analytics and science numbers up to 40 percent faster. A jump to 12GB of RAM, meanwhile, helps it handle data sets that are twice as big as before. The K40 is already available in servers from NVIDIA’s partners, and the University of Texas at Austin plans to use it in Maverick, a remote visualization supercomputer that should be up and running by January.

As part of the K40 rollout, NVIDIA has also revealed a partnership with IBM that should bring GPU-boosted supercomputing to enterprise-grade data centers. The two plan on bringing Tesla GPU support to IBM’s Power8-based servers, including both apps and development tools. It’s not clear when the deal will bear fruit, but don’t be surprised if it turbocharges a corporate mainframe near you.

After leaking in August, stopped by for a quick stint at the FCC website in September, and an official announcement from NVIDIA later that month, we finally got the Tegra Note 7 in our hands for a full review. We already knew that the Nexus 7 2013 is a formidable competitor at the $200+ price point, but we’ve recently seen several OEMs innovate and carve their own space in a tablet market that may be more diversified than once thought. Lenovo recently added the Lenovo Tablet which emphasizes extreme battery/price ratio. Now NVIDIA is coming with its own Android tablet twist by giving users a very good stylus experience, and top gaming performance at $199. This is a user experience that no other tablet can match at this price. (more…)

Tegra Note 7 Review original content from Ubergizmo.

Back in September, NVIDIA officially took off the wraps to their Tegra Note 7 tablet which was essentially a reference design of sorts that will be made by a variety of NVIDIA OEM partners, such as EVGA, Oysters, ZOTAC, Colorful, GIGABYTE, Shenzhen Homecare Technology, and XOLO.  Well thanks to the folks at NotebookItalia, they have managed to get their hands on two promotional videos of the upcoming Tegra Note 7 which should give us an idea of what to expect from the device, such as a walkthrough of its stylus capabilities and optional accessories and the likes. In early October this year, the specifications and pricing details of the Mad Catz MOJO were revealed, and we also did hear about a potential PC streaming feature which should arrive in due time shortly after launch. Well, apparently, it might actually be powered by NVIDIA’s GameStream technology.

According to Alex Verrey, Mad Catz’ Global PR Director, “We’re talking to NVIDIA and we hope to enable GameStream soon after the launch of the console.” At this point in time, the technology remains available exclusively on NVIDIA’s very own Shield handheld. Should the Mad Catz deal happen to work out fine and dandy, then it would have the honor of being the first appearance of GameStream on a third party device, which is something worth thinking about. Verrey did stop short of confirming the partnership, but they did suggest that the company could also be on the lookout for another platforms. After all, he also did say, “We’re also very excited for Steam and we look at all these opportunities with interest.”
