Samsung NX300 Gets The Gold-Plated Treatment, Will Cost $2,700

Samsung NX300 Gets The Gold Plated Treatment, Will Cost $2,700Earlier this year Samsung announced the NX300 compact camera, a camera that is part of the South Korean company’s line up of compact cameras with interchangeable lenses. The camera itself at that time was priced at a pretty expensive $750, and getting the 50mm f/1.8 prime lens would have easily cost you another $500. Well in case that wasn’t pricey enough, Axiom Telecom has announced a special limited edition Samsung NX300 camera that will be plated in 22k gold, and will come bundled in a special box with two lenses – the 55-180mm III and the 45mm 2D/3D lens.

The bundle will also feature a SEF8-A flash, an external battery charger, 16GB of memory, and a leather case and strap. Each camera unit will also be marked with a unique serial number and “Special Edition” engravings. Doesn’t seem too bad, does it? Well if you were thinking of picking one set up for yourself, it is priced at 10,000 Saudi Riyal which is about $2,700 after conversion, and will be available via Axiom Telecom’s website in Saudi Arabia. A little ostentatiousness never hurt anyone, right?

Samsung NX300 SMART Camera Announced

Samsung NX300 SMART Camera AnnouncedThere are cameras, and then there are digital cameras, and the Samsung NX300 SMART camera would be one that fall under the latter category. Sporting a 45mm 2D/3D lens, it will also arrive with a new partnership between the South Korean company, Samsung, alongside the world’s fastest man, Olympian Usain Bolt who picked up gold in London sometime in the middle of last year.

Bolt has appeared in global initiatives for the camera and the ‘NX Junior Photographer’ campaign will see both Samsung as well as Usain Bolt work in partnership, helping to continue build on Bolt’s natural love of being behind the camera, as a way to ignite the love of photography with this 20.3-megapixel shooter. It is always nice to see something in the hand which was once just a prototype, or being previewed by a select few before being released commercially across the board. The Samsung NX300 SMART camera will be accompanied by a $749.99 price tag, while its 45mm 2D/3D lens will cost another $499.95 if you are interested in picking one of these bad boys up.

Samsung unveils 3Dcapable NX300 mirrorless camera and 45mm f18 2D3D lens eyeson

TVs and robotic vacuums aren’t the only Smart-branded devices Samsung will be showing off at this year’s CES. We just met with the company here in NYC to take a look at its newest entrant into the camera game, dubbed the NX300. No, it’s not Android-equipped, but this 20.3-megapixel APS-C shooter stands as its new flagship mirrorless model, boasting a key gimmick feature of 3D capability for stills and videos (up to 1080p at 60fps) thanks to a new DRIMe IV processor.

Getting the usual numbers aside, you’ll be able to harness an ISO range of 100 to 25600, a maximum shutter speed of 1,6000 and a top speed of 8.6fps for JPG bursts. On back, you’ll find a 3.31-inch, 768 dot AMOLED touch-display, and a d-pad-esque section with five buttons for manual control. Lastly, there’s a dedicated mode dial on the top, along with a full-size hot shoe mount. This shooter is also WiFi-enabled like previous cameras in the range, allowing you to share content wirelessly and giving you access to apps, like a remote viewfinder that works with iOS and Android devices.

Having a new NX that can handle 3D naturally calls for a lens that can shoot it, and a 2D/3D-capable f/1.8 45mm lens was also shown to us — a “world-first,” according to Sammy. While you won’t be able to shoot in 3D with older NX cameras (we’re told they don’t have the processing power), it’ll still work as regular 2D lens if you’re interested in its focal perspective. We spent a few fleeting moments with an engineering sample of the camera in-hand, so join us past the break for more.
